Cons: "Worst thing was changing our pre-reserved seats saying it was an improvement, then sticking me from an aisle to a middle seat. It's one thing to do it, but it's egregious to lie about it. Crew was cold and not so friendly. They were a little rude as well, but some passengers were also rude. They were efficient, however. Earphones didn't work properly. Movie selection was just okay. Layover too long without a supplied hotel (16 hours)."

Cons: "* Failure at communication: At check-in we were told that they cannot route the luggage to the final destination (Shanghai). We will have to fetch the luggage from the luggage belt and check it in again at Chengdu airport from scratch. Also it was not possible to get the boarding pass for this flight online and select seats. This was brand new information for us. Nor China Southern, nor KLM nor Kayak did inform us about this at anytime. This never happened to us and if we knew in advance we would not have booked this connection (one in Amsterdam and one in Chengdu). Passengers need to be informed about this! Some people mentioned this is Chinese state policy, still not sure about this though. * Horrible transfer experience: In summary we were on ourselves, information was absent or just plain wrong by the ground staff at Chengdu airport. Which resultet in us queuing in 3 different lanes. Even in the first lane we queued, following official signs for transfer, the first staff told us we can queue here but then the lady at the counter (after 30min queueing) told us to go somewhere else instead. We had to wait in the rain to take a shuttle bus to another terminal. There we then queued at a China Southern counter, but it turned out to be incompatible with our ticket (booked with China Southern but operated by China Eastern - not communicated to us). Hence we queued yet again at a China Eastern counter which was eventually the correct one. Common to all this was the negative attitude of all staff which basically didn't care at all and were just incompetent. Note that this was not a language issue, as one of us is fluent in Chinese. * Once boarded the plane, which was 25% full, we were even disallowed to change seats due to "weight balance issue" (which seems to be just a joke given the weight of the airplane itself...). Note that the check-in agent explicitely told that because the plane is half-full we can just freely select an empty seat - yet another false information. * Conclusion: 1. Transparent information is they key for making a booking decision. 2. Do not fly via Chengdu airport. This will just ruin your trip. This airport is not ready to serve as international transfer spot."

Cons: "Because of congestion at shanghai the flight from Delhi to Shanghai, the flight was canceled. The handling of the cancellation was terrible on both the Chinese Eastern and Indian airport official's side. Communication was slow and spotty, and this caused much stress and loss of time for the passengers. After repeated calls to the customer service center, it was discovered that China Eastern didn't even know the status of their own flights, as the computer systems didn't reflect the changes. I was passed to different customer service representatives being on hold for over an hour. Finally, It took 7 hrs to go from cancelation until we got to hotel, from 1am until 8am. During this time, passengers were repeatedly corralled in cold location and no refreshments were offered. The following day, the confusion continued as China Eastern and the Indian Air Port Officials passed blame and communication broke down between the passengers. At no point were all the parties concerned briefed on the plan, so people were left wondering and not sleeping during the time at the hotel. Finally a Chinese national called the Chinese embassy of Delhi, and the Chinese government stepped in and got us a flight out. China Eastern's denial of responsibility, lack of internal communication, and lack of Chinese Eastern ground support in Delhi made this flight experience the worst of my life. Some how I would like a full refund for the return portion of the trip."

Cons: "BEGIN 1. Upon check in I was Informed that my baggage would not transferred to my connecting flight in Nanjing and that I would have to leave the airport and check-in for my next flight. I expressed my concerns that I do not have a Chinese Visa and thus would not be able to leave the airport. They said it would be "no problem"...I was skeptical. 2. Flight departure delayed 1 hour...no reason given. 3. Chinese loudly hacking and spitting into their hands throughout the gate (check) FLIGHT 4. No on board entertainment 5. All electronics besides tablets allowed at all and must be turned off at all times. 6. Sleeping near impossible due to... a. Disgusting Chinese hacking into their hands and on my head b. WAY to many announcements including but not limited too. i. Captain ordering window shades be opened/closed several times (WHY?) ii. Tai-chi lessons. iii. Every bump of turbulence resulted in the same 5 language 2 minute message. 7. Absolutely no electronic devices allowed (This time also excluding tablets) 1 hour after take off and 1 hour before landing...very boring NANJING 8. Well I guess you do need a visa, who would have guessed. (SEE POINT 1) 9. All sorts of hell 10. Passports confiscated 11. Military escort to connecting flight after 3 hour wait. HOME Fever 103F/explosive diarrhea"

Cons: "Might flight was delayed by an hour, which was not too bad. We were kept waiting at the bottom of the stair, while standing on the runway at the plane. Were told flight was delayed do to wind, but we could see other flights taking off. Thought we were going to be taken back to the waiting area, but fortunately someone finally got the bright idea to let us just wait on board the plane. We all boarded and placed our carry on items overhead. Sat on the plane for about 40 minutes. Then an additional maybe 20 or 30 passengers boarded, who had not at the gate at boarding time. This was probably the REAL reason the flight was delayed."

The airport staff is mind-bogglingly uncooperative. They didn't even offer me a hotel for the 21 hours layover I was forced to endure. No one had proper answers; they were just sending me from one desk to the other till I gave up and slept at the airport itself."

There are 40 check in booths in shanghai train station and more passengers than i have ever seen anywhere, the heat was incredible and confusion everywhere...and I didn't have a clue where when how or anything.to finish the trip nicely I ended up 'obviously' in Ningbo train station rather than the airport which ids the other side of Ningbo. so no one there to meet me as they were all at the airport. when I bought the flight through opodo it said plane...not once did it say there would be a train. if so I would have gone a different route. utterly dreadful treatment"

The next plane was not due in until 24 hours after we landed. China Eastern did not take care of a hotel stay, dinner vouchers or rental car even though it was their fault that we missed our connection."
