The border is open to New Zealanders, vaccinated travelers from visa waiver countries. Travelers from other countries who already hold a valid visitor visa can also enter New Zealand and self-test on arrival. Travelers can enter New Zealand isolation-free if (1) you are eligible to enter the border while it is restricted, including if you have a border exception and (2) you meet health requirements, including being fully vaccinated and getting pre-departure tests.
Entry to New Zealand is allowed provided that a traveler is a partner, a dependent child, or a family member of a student or work visa holder; a temporary visa holder; a resident holder; critical health workers including their partner or independent children; students; ship crew and humanitarians. The Request to Travel Form must be filled out prior to entry.
Travelers do not need to request for an approval if they are New Zealand citizens and permanent resident visa holders; diplomats who hold a post in New Zealand; Australian citizens or permanent residents ordinarily resident in New Zealand and eligible travelers from specific countries or regions.
Most travelers to New Zealand must have a negative PCR or RT-PCR test within 48 hours of the scheduled departure of their first international flight.
Travelers who are not coming from a quarantine-free travel zone are required to have a voucher confirming their place in Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) before boarding their flight.
