New Zealand Travel Restrictions

New Zealand entry details and exceptions

The border is open to New Zealanders, vaccinated travelers from visa waiver countries. Travelers from other countries who already hold a valid visitor visa can also enter New Zealand and self-test on arrival. Travelers can enter New Zealand isolation-free if (1) you are eligible to enter the border while it is restricted, including if you have a border exception and (2) you meet health requirements, including being fully vaccinated and getting pre-departure tests.

Entry to New Zealand is allowed provided that a traveler is a partner, a dependent child, or a family member of a student or work visa holder; a temporary visa holder; a resident holder; critical health workers including their partner or independent children; students; ship crew and humanitarians. The Request to Travel Form must be filled out prior to entry.

Travelers do not need to request for an approval if they are New Zealand citizens and permanent resident visa holders; diplomats who hold a post in New Zealand; Australian citizens or permanent residents ordinarily resident in New Zealand and eligible travelers from specific countries or regions.

Most travelers to New Zealand must have a negative PCR or RT-PCR test within 48 hours of the scheduled departure of their first international flight.

Travelers who are not coming from a quarantine-free travel zone are required to have a voucher confirming their place in Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) before boarding their flight.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from India must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken within 48 hours for RT-PCR (NAAT) and 24 hours for Antigen (quick-test) before departing to New Zealand.

Details and exceptions
Exemptions apply to the following:
1. Children who are under two years of age.
2. Travelers from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Antarctica, Norfolk Island, and most Pacific Islands.
3. Travelers from locations where New Zealand’s pre-departure testing standard is not available.
4. Travelers who cannot take a test due to medical reasons.
5. Travelers from specified countries and jurisdictions where obtaining a PCR test may be difficult or not possible can instead provide evidence of a supervised negative rapid antigen test (RAT) or a supervised loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) test taken within 24 hours of departure.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors from India will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering New Zealand.

As of March 18, 2022 : Unvaccinated New Zealand citizens and those who are eligible to travel to New Zealand do not need to enter MIQ or to self-isolate.
Documents
Travelers are required to obtain a Managed Isolation Allocation system voucher confirming their place in a managed isolation facility before boarding a flight to New Zealand.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated travelers returning from New Zealand must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken within 72 hours before departure to India.

Fully vaccinated travellers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions
Travelers should upload their negative RT-PCR test report in the Air Suvidha Portal prior to boarding their flight.
Travelers will undergo a medical screening upon arrival and may be subject to a covid-19 molecular test at their own expense.
Children under 5 years of age are exempted from both pre and post-arrival testing.
Fully vaccinated travelers with WHO-recognized or Nationally-recognized vaccines are also exempted from testing requirements. Proof of vaccination should be uploaded in the Air Suvidha Portal.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from New Zealand are not required to quarantine upon entering India.

Details and exceptions
Quarantine is no longer required. However, travelers are advised to self-monitor their health for 14 days from arrival and if they develop signs and symptoms suggestive of COVID19, they should immediately self-isolate and report to their nearest health facility or call National helpline number (1075)/ State Helpline Number.
