Pros: Wonderful having car to drive through the Dolomites
Cons: Offices closed 12:30 -2:30 during the day. This is for many businesses. Just the culture.

Terrible customer service on venizia
Pros: The main employee (male no name tag) in Venezia was not helpful, effecicient or nice. Luckily his junior female employee stepped in to help us (I had my wallet stolen with my drivers license and since the reservation was in my name we had to change the name and driver to my wife. He refused to help going on a rant that he didn’t even have time to do his job ... which I though was customer service especially when I called the hertz customer service number in my kayak email and reached him. He blamed the fact that he had no computer. Definitely not up to the standard of Hertz.
Cons: The young female employee (again no name tag) helped us after the male employee yelled at us for 15 minutes and had us on our way in 10.

Hertz? Never ever again!
Cons: I booked 1,5 months in advance the car by Hertz. With pickup in Venice and drop off in Viterbo. I got a booking confirmation via e-mail. BUT! An employee in Venice office of Hertz unilaterally changed conditions of my booking and changed drop off office from Viterbo to Rome. I asked him to amend documents but he told that he has some problems with his system and cannot amend it. He printed me information about Viterbo office from his system and told that it's just small technical mistake and everything is fine. It was pre-Christmas time. No other car rental companies were open. No other opportunities to rent another car were avaliable. I called to Viterbo office (phone number on by booking and on the paper I got from Hertz employee of Venice office) on 03rd of January to confirm that they will be open next day to drop off the car. The person on the phone confirmed me that office will be open. BUT!! on the 4th of January when I arrived to drop off the car I was told that HERTZ closed office in Viterbo and I have to go to Rome. That employee in Venice just lied to me: it was not a technical mistake in his system, it was because Viterbo office planned to be closed. So it was a fraudulent representation of the customer which is a direct breach of customer protection legislation. I was in Viterbo office 20 mins before the rental time expires. It was impossible to reach Rome within next 20 minutes before the rental time will expire. Moreover, I had other plans for my vacation on that day and days further and these plans didn't include spend 2 hours driving to Rome and 2 hours returning back to Viterbo. HERTZ MUST INFORM me in advance that it changed booking conditions. I was avaliable to drive the car to Rome only on the next day. Hertz charged me for 2 additional rental days. Moreover, I had to pay for additional fuel. Moreover, I paid money for the train to return to Viterbo. Moreover, I spend almost the whole day of my vacation travelling to Rome and back.

Really disappointing customer service
Pros: The car was nice.
Cons: The person who we picked up the car from in Venice was extremely rude and tried to cancel the reservation on us because we didn't understand how the booking system worked. He started shouting at me which was extremely unprofessional and rude. In the end, we were just trying to get the car and get out of there as soon as possible.
Then when we dropped the car off at the airport, they were extremely particular about the amount of gas left (it was mostly full). We had to go fill up gas and almost missed our flight. But I guess this one is more on us to have thought through things in advance so I can excuse Hertz there.

Overall very good except for pickup
Pros: The car and the value were great. The associate at the Venice office was very nice, helpful and knowledgeable.
Cons: I had to wait for, at least, 45 minutes after contract was signed to get the car. I've never seen this before at other places. They usually have the car already available for you to drive it.

Pros: The car was on time
Cons: Not the car we order and not similar. We wanted 9 places came and we got 7 place car.
The charge was 15 eu more.

Pros: The quality of the car was great and we were really happy about the cleanliness and operation of the vehicle.
Cons: The pickup was unnecessarily stressful. When we arrived at the rental agency, we found it locked and were not able to get in, despite it being within the times that Kayak stated it would be open. We walked around the site and finally found an employee who informed us that the office was in fact closed for several hours in the afternoon for a regularly scheduled break. Further, he told us that our reservation would be cancelled because it expires 2 hours after the scheduled pickup time, which fell within their break time. At this point, we panicked and had to convince the employee to open up the store and to give him a significant tip in order to get our reserved vehicle. We were relieved that we could drive away with the car, but having no notice of the hours of the store or this 2 hour policy was unnecessarily stressful. I have not had this type of issue come up when renting cars before and do not plan to use Hertz again if this is the type of service I can expect.

I did not receive credit for full gas tank.
Pros: Staff seemed relatively efficient in terms of pickup and drop off.
Cons: I did not receive credit for full gas tank. Low oil indicator on car came on soon after I left depot. No windshield washer fluid.
Cons: They did not make theairport pickup point clear. It took 40 minutes and 3 phone calls.

Avoid renting through ACE
Cons: ACE Is not a car rental company so nobody to call in case of issues with the rental. Took us over 2 hours to figure out where to go pick up the car at Venice airport. On top of this, once we got to the car rental counter, they would not rent us the car because we needed an International license. Was never advised by ACE that international license was needed.....
Cons: Overcharged me on the final bill by almost $100. Desk agent said the "Optional Fuel Purchase" was mandatory but the charge would be removed if I brought the vehicle back with a full tank.
Of course the final bill included the "optional fuel purchase" even though I returned the car with a full tank.
Also the diesel car required several fillings of the additive "AD BLUE" or it would not start. Total out-of-pocket extra of more than 20 Euros.
Reflection of poor vehicle maintenance/servicing on the part of Dollar/Hertz.

Look closely before departing
Pros: AFter the long, long walk to the rental counter, it was refreshing to find out the vehicles themselves were in the same location -- just a few steps away.
Cons: The first car we were offered was missing its rear wiper. (Not just the rubber blade, but the whole thing -- arm and all.)
They switched us to a different vehicle, and it was great -- but the first vehicle should have been taken out-of-service, repaired, and then returned to the fleet.

Very good service in fair price
Pros: Good car, in good conditon. Rental agency in convenient location.
Cons: The rental agency could not be reached by phone for inquires.
Pros: The vehicle itself was clean and ran well. It had a full tank of gas when we picked it up. The vehicle had a built in navigation system as well as bluetooth capability, making navigation substantially easier.
Cons: Coordinating the vehicle pickup was a bit confusing, but not unmanageable. The hours of operation were pretty limiting and the fee for an airport drop-off outside of those hours cost nearly as much as the rental itself, despite being only a few minute drive away. There was no opportunity to verify or indicate any damages on the vehicle prior to pickup and when we asked the representative, he simply told us that he already marked everything and not to concern ourselves with it. I also found it odd that the hold amount was about $800, but if you utilized their exorbitant insurance, rather than your own it was only $200; not a huge deal, but could cause issues for somebody on a budget.
