To get to the Rental Car Center from the BOS Airport, locate rental cars, take the blue Massport shuttle bus and it will announce Rental Car Center because a lot of us on the bus were not entirely sure where to go to rent our cars. Beware when renting from Thrifty from the Boston Airport.

While I don't recommend driving in the city of Boston, it was nice to have a car to drive outside of Boston. We enjoyed our time in Boston walking most of the time. On our last day in Boston we used a rental car to drive through New Hampshire and Maine.

If you aren’t familiar with Boston, have your GPS ready. It can be confusing. Also, there are a lot of one way streets, so watch the signs. You always have to be aware of which lane to be in. You might actually have to switch lanes frequently just to drive straight ahead, as lanes that were drive straight lanes turn into turn lanes.

I rented a car to drive home to ME so it’s a non issue but Boston is an extremely difficult city to drive in if you’ve never been here before. There is minimal signage and people from Massachusetts drive very differently. When they want to merge they just do. You must be on the defense at all times. There is always traffic too. You do not need a car if staying in the city proper in fact I’d recommend against it. Between the T and Uber and really just walking, you can get everywhere you need to, plus there really isn’t any parking except expensive garages if you’re lucky enough to find one. And if you’re renting from the airport to go elsewhere you’re fine with GPS. But with GPS trying to find something downtown? Good luck. You’ll be stuck in traffic for days and never find what you’re looking for. If you’re renting a car to drive to the cape especially in busy season I hope your flight is very early or late because you will be stuck in traffic for hours as well

Driving was interesting as I'm used to lanes and there aren't many lanes here; the roads kind of just throw you in there and see who wins lol. Driving is very challenging in Boston. Many roads that are underground and then have to double back to get on the proper highway. Actually, my Google maps did a reasonable job considering all the underground transportation.

Be patient! And careful on the dropoff not to take the keys with you when you drop the car, there is a $250 charge for doing that.

Boston International Airport has a Car Rental Center which features a 4-level garage for the abundance of cars on offer and can be reached by the airport’s free shuttle service. The shuttle bus leaves from all terminals every 5-6 minutes. The buses can be found at the lower level of every terminal and are blue and white. Especially the intersections along Interstate 93 and the Route 128 are known to be clogged with traffic and should be avoided during rush hour times altogether if possible, as alternative side roads are also congested during these times. Despite having a reservation, they didn't have our car, and we had to wait over an hour to get a car - it was the worst Enterprise experience we've ever had. Thankfully they worked with us in Burlington to get a different car, which was appreciated, and they offered a small discount. But overall super poorly managed situation. If you have a reservation, they need to make sure your car is ready!

It was excellent. When I opened my original car it had a cigarette smell. They immediately gave me a substitute. It was a great car. Jeep Cherokee

I booked on Kayak and was told by Sixt desk that there was no car available. The third party service booked me for a non existent car. I had to quickly book directly with another rental company. Sixt should not let third party companies book cars if they don’t have capacity.

I was in line for Budget for 45 minutes until I gave up and made a reservation at Sixt, walked over, and got a ride right away. I paid a little bit more, but got a Volvo s60 instead of a Camry, so it was well worth it.

The pickup went great, and the car was very nice. Unfortunately my drop off was on a day when the location was closed so the lot was full and hard to access. Not the locations fault, but it makes things tough.

One hour wait and the agents were surly and unapologetic. I will never use them again. Use Enterprise/National/Alamo instead! My experience with them was far superior and their counter had a faster moving line.

Waited two hours in line to get paperwork. Computer systems were down so they wrote everything up by hand. No apologies and no offers to make it right. Once we got to the garage, an employee told us the express area was closed and sent us to the “preferred” area, only to find out that’s not where we were supposed to be. Finally, the girls out on the garage floor were able to help us. They were very kind and the only ones who seemed to know what they were doing. They finally got us into a car and on our way.
