10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nice and quiet. Far from town but only a 5 min walk from the Orangutan and sun bear area. the surrounding areas are peaceful and quiet. Really peaceful!
Cons: Far from town, and stock up on food. The food places are expensive.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful, with a very relaxing atmosphere. Every chalet has a hammock, which is very comfortable and relaxing. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable.
Cons: The food was overpriced compared to surrounding places, although was very tasty and of high quality. There was a bit of pressure from the staff on arrival, to purchase tours and activities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a place! We stayed here for 2 nights in August and were really impressed with resort. Check in was smooth, staff were lovely and the restaurant area just beautiful, overlooking a small lake surrounded by wildlife and flowers. The rooms were just gorgeous, large with a fabulous comfy bed (hard to get in Malaysia) lovely big bathroom, ours had a bath and overhead shower. Plenty of living space and veranda overlooking the water. I could sit on the veranda and watch the monkeys in the trees and hornbills flying around. The food was excellent. It's right next door to the Sunbear and Orangutan centre and a short and cheap Grab taxi into Sandakan
Cons: Couldn't fault it, our experience was brilliant
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is incredible! Set on a beautiful pond with rainforest all around, the villas are very private. Some great nature activities are close by as well. The food was very nice and there was lots of variety. The staff were always helpful and they were very flexible with checkout as we had a late flight.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lush property filled with tropical foliage and 23 spacious cottages around a small pond next door to the Orang Utan rehab center. Lovely dining and relaxation areas to chill out with friends or just lay in the hammock outside your cottage. Some cottages have better views and decks - so do call the hotel and ask.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The serenity and the surrounding. Food was great. Very comfortable room.
Cons: We booked a tour and turned up on time for departure as told but it turned out that the receptionist didnt make the booking for us. We weren't able to make that tour and were leaving sandakan the very next day. We were sure we confirmed to book the tour and were disappointed we couldn't make it. The breakfast menu should include more local cruisine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: all first class
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful resort. Very comfortable and chilled. Loved sitting on our veranda and in the restaurant area chilling out and enjoying the view over the lake. Good food, especially breakfast. Brilliant location for the orangutan rehabilitation centre and the sun bear centre - walking distance. Friendly staff. Comfy and very clean rooms. About 20-25 mins from the airport so easy journey by taxi (43 ringgit) from coupon taxi stand.
Cons: Beer not cold enough enough and drinks a little pricey. Food reasonable value. Check your bill, ours had a couple of errors (sure they weren’t intentional just errors)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel and the room - clean, in the middle of flowers, birds and trees, and very comfortable. Staff and food were great, orang-utan centre and rainforest centre in walking distance. great place.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and well presented facility. Friendly and helpful staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, clean and tidy, good beds, good food in the restaurant. The best was this great nature all around! The orangutan sanctuary, the sun bears and the rainforest discovery center are only a short walk away.
Cons: The coffee is not so good. Although they have a real big coffee machine in the restaurant, the coffee is not good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place in the middle of the jungle, close to everything you want to experience in Sepilok!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the Rainforest Discovery Center. Staff are great. food is good. Hot water. comfy beds. AC and fans. good wifi.
Cons: Girls who turn off the fans and AC.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A really lovely hostel in the rainforest. It is so close to the orangutan sanctuary, breakfast is tasty, air con is strong and staff were lovely.
Cons: It was slightly more expensive then the average dorm room, especially not to have a private light and plug socket. Curtains maybe a nice touch
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was good! Clean and spacious, good breakfast, nice staff.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable dorm, great showers and bathrooms, quiet area, nice breakfast buffet with lots of variety, helpful and well informed staff, and great value for the money (dorms).
Cons: I wrote to the property to request early check in and they never wrote back. We had to wait till about 3:00 for the dorm to be ready for check in, although it was posted that you could check in at 2:00. Not a huge deal because there is plenty of room to relax and use internet, wash up, etc. In the reception area.
7.9 Good
Pros: The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the proximity to the sanctuaries was amazing, they give you fresh drinking water for the room each day, the air con was unreal, and they have a mini shop on site to get supplies which helped massively!
Cons: The WiFi only works in the dorms and the top two chalets. Brilliant if you’re in them, but we were in a bottom chalet so paid more than the cost of a dorm, but had to sit in the stuffy, hot, outside reception being bitten by mozzies to use the wifi. On certain days the restaurant is buffet only. We weren’t told this, and were left to sit confused in the restaurant waiting for a menu, until we got up and asked and were told it was (an overpriced) buffet. On the evening we ate dinner a la carte, my noodles were very clearly instant noodles and packet sauce that had been heated up and had chicken added to the top. The shower was solar heated so on cold wet days when you need a warm shower, you have to make do with ice cold. The lady who runs the mini shop picks and chooses when she’s there and open, so sometimes when you’re on a mad dash for water, she’s just closed the shop for 2 hours in the middle of the day, or an hour early at the end, contrary to what the sign says. Saying that, she did stay open slightly later one day to allow us to buy some water.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really friendly and it was lovely that the location was close to nature. The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Sun Bear Concervation Centre were about 1 km away but it was a nice way to walk.
Cons: There was a big construction work next to our room. The wifi didn't work in the room, only in the reception.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a great hostel, clean bathrooms, good sized rooms and the staff were very helpful. Was meant to stay here for 2 days ended up staying for 4 instead. Would definitely recommend this place.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, rooms are clean, my bed was comfy and WIFI superstrong! Since I left very early I can't say much about the breakfast but I got toast butter jam even in the very morning which I really liked. Staff was nice and helpful. I would book there right away if I would return to Sandakan
Cons: Sandakan in itself is not very nice.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing breakfast included with lots to choose from. Very comfortable space with nice communal area with great wifi and choice to go across to affiliated hostel just down the road with rooftop space. Bed was very comfy. Good location for exploring sandakan with busy atmosphere. Showers and toilets are separate and clean. Towels provided which is always a bonus! Staff were friendly and gave tips for good places to eat nearby and were happy for us to leave our bags the day we checked out to explore before our flight.
Cons: Aircon wasn't that efficient.

Pros: I love the pandan nasi lemak from the breakfast buffet table and the friendly receptionist when we check in and checked out.

Cons: Not enough sun loungers. Only about 16 for a hotel with hundreds of rooms
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Felt just like any other Four Points in the USA; it was just what we needed after days in the jungle. 13th floor pool with good food.
Cons: WiFi is a little weak, but that’s the case for everywhere in Sandakan.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The boat rides were excellent. AC in the dorm rooms was nice and chilly. Drinking water available. Guides and boat drivers were very good. Plenty of food. Loved the pineapple.
Cons: Did not like having to sit where they told you. That sucked mightily. The reception staff were a bit grumpy and not very helfpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This property is close to a small village in the middle of the jungle on the banks of the Kinabatangan river so is a fantastic location for observing the wildlife of Borneo. The guides for the boat safaris and the jungle walks (which are included in the price) are friendly and knowledgeable about the local wildlife. We were fortunate enough to see Orangutans on our 5th and 6th days of our stay. We also saw four varieties of horn-bill and a plethora of other birds, proboscis monkeys, macaques, silver leaf monkeys, crocodiles, sleeping birds, civet cats, Malaysian civet (like a fox); a viper; and loads of exotic bugs. The staff at this hotel were all fantastic, professional and friendly and the team gave us an unforgettable wedding anniversary on our last night, giving us a special dinner with four of the staff singing to us while we ate. We will always have a special place in our heart for this hotel and thanks to them for Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight. Perhaps the biggest pleasant surprise for us was quality of the food which during our 7 night stay was exceptional.
Cons: The only things we did not like were those that were not controlled by the hotel, namely: biting bugs; and humidity. There's nothing that you can do about this but keep applying the repellent and covering up.
7.0 Good
Pros: Going on the river boat cruises and seeing all the wikdlife
Cons: Unfortunately the electric was turned off during the day which meant no water and no air con, with humidity at 80% it was very uncomfortable. A bucket of water was asked for but in never appeared.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: First things first, the group we had was amazing. We made such great friends that made the whole thing 10x better. The rooms were surprisingly comfortable, the food was excellent and the whole vibe of the place was great. The safari itself was also great. We saw 3 orangutans!! Which is apparently super rare. We also saw a crocodile and about 500 monkeys. The night walk for birds was also sick. We didn’t see elephants though :/. But the orangutans made it all worth it. Mohammed is a very nice guy
Cons: The boots/binoculars flashlight should really be included in the price. That’s kind of what we are paying for here. The binoculars shouldn’t be rented FYI not very good quality. My only real complaint about the tour is you only have 1 full day to do safari and there was about a 4-5 hour period in the middle of the Day with nothing planned. Also they canceled they 2nd night walk for “wind” but there was literally no wind so we did our own tour without the lodge
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Overall, the experience was excellent. I had a dorm bed which was fine. Really nice to have aircon. All the team were very helpful and delightful and our river guides were amazing (Anwang and Henry) We saw more wildlife then could have imagined.
Cons: The bathroom for the dorms is outside with an open roof so no protection from mosquitoes. This made it impossible to shower without being bitten alive. It is the only thing that I would change. A simple adjustment to include some form of screen above the shower rooms would greatly improve comfort.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The food was absolutely amazing!!! And 4he dorm room was very clean and even had an AC :D
Cons: The shared bathroom area could be improved a bit, but was ok considering it's in the jungle. As I told the receptionist, it would be improving the experience a lot if the staff and guides gave way more information about the animals, the river, the local people and the lodge with it's sustainable approach.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an authentic jungle lodge. There will be bugs flying around! Great staff- river guides extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Very good value for what you get!! Food, river trips, jungle walks, pick up...
Cons: No WiFi but this is also quite nice.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best decision we made in our two months in Southeast Asia. The staff at the nature lodge are amazing. They are always friendly and accommodating. They were able to provide gluten free food for me for each meal. All of the guides are amazing and we were lucky enough to get Mohammed as out guide. He made sure we saw orangutans and got is as close as possible to monkeys in the boat. We left with great pictures, new friends, and wonderful memories.
Cons: If I had to complain I would say there was some mold in the bathroom, but you are in the jungle so can't really complain.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: So, you're in the middle of the jungle in an amazing, quiet location. The nearest hospital and ATM are one hour away. There is WIFI for two hours per day, so you come here for the animals and socializing with fellow guests and guides. The guides are supernice, local and competent: they could spot a still, hanging orang-utan behind three different trees!!! The food was good and I really enjoyed staying here. I learnt a lot about the wildlife and stayed fit by walking through the jungle during the day and night. The river cruises were fantastic. I can only thank everyone working there for my stay! Also, the dorm was comfortable and was on my own the entire time.
Cons: Just one suggestion, which I already gave to them during checkout: they should add a library or some board games for the late morning and early afternoon (no excursions from 10.30 ish to 16.00). All I found around was a book in Chinese, a book and two magazines in Dutch. It's nice to nap and do nothing but that's a lot of hours to only nap at day.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: They provide a free shuttle service to the Orangutan Sanctuary and even picked us up when we arrived in Sepilok by Bus in the evening. Also Trips to all the nearby attractions can be arranged by them. The food is amazingly delicious and fresh. We loved eating there! Also the juices are wonderful. The Room had the most beautiful view!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the middle of the jungle. Really quiet, perfect to relax.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the room was amazing. The shuttle bus made it really easy to get to and from the orangutans. The food was very good.
Cons: That you could only pay cash. ATMs are not easy to come by in Sepilok and we had to pay our own way to an ATM that was 25 minutes away. I did not know it was cash only prior to coming. We probably would have stayed longer if we could have paid with a card. The walkways are not very safe to and from our room. They are extremely slippery and there are no lights when it is dark out.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is served outside by one of the team there. There is one option each day and it can change day to day but it was always really nice and served very quickly. They have tea, coffee and jams for your use as well.
Cons: Just make sure to take insect repellent and to have the mosquito net down at night. Also don't leave lights on in your room or outside your room when you are out otherwise you will come back to a lot of insects. This is no fault of the hostel, just the nature of being in the jungle!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wood cabins, very relaxing atmosphere, very quiet, good food.
Cons: Nothing, but we only had a very short stay
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff were helpful and friendly. Nicely located in rustic quiet setting. Basic breakfast to start the day, evening meals limited range but good. Good shuttle to orangutan sanctuary. Well coordinated taxi arrangements for airport
Cons: Internet access at the reception and dining area challenging and erratic. Must be pretty hard to maintain cleanliness in this situation but a little more effort may help. Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat must have been amazing in its prime.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything good. Food excellent! People very nice. Highly recommend
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Good ibformation.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Could be amazing, but needs a lot of TLC. It was not in a great location for me and my family.
Cons: You had to request internet every time that you wanted to use it - 1st world problem but a real pain - difficult (and expensive) to get taxis in and out.

Cons: No comments
7.0 Good
Pros: Generally a nice hotel with good restaurants and very professional staff. Spacious room, comfy bed, nice swimming pool. Close to the city, green area. There is massage and gym onsite but have not tried them.
Cons: My biggest problem was that we particularly choose this hotel because of the tropical park surrounding it but the park was closed (probably has been for rather long time). The room was rather dark and the towels we got were stained. Restaurant was rather pricey and the tour advertised by one of the staff was disappointing (but expensive). Price per night is not high but I still would have expected more (especially the garden). Coffee was undrinkable.

Pros: Very close to sepilok orangutan and sun bear sanctuary’s. Nice pool and good local food at the restaurant. Friendly helpful staff and tours easily arranged at front desk for good price. Good ac in room.
Cons: Fairly basic rooms and plumbing a bit jungle spec. Beds ok but not super comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It's amazing! Loved the people, the breakfast area and food, the pool!
Cons: It's a little old, could use a little renovation here and there
7.1 Good
Pros: Location is fantastic and convent to orangutan sanctuary and sun bears. Swimming pool
Cons: Bed was hard, it was uncomfortable for me but might suit others No mosquito nets Air con not very good Breakfast very basic so I ate at other resorts It could be made to look stunning if some time was spent on basic garden maintenance
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location and the pool for my little boy had a little water slide. The staff were fantastic. Room basic but clean. Collection and drop off for airport all went like clockwork. This place is a real hidden gem. If you want the Hilton then this isn't for you. Its a low budget place but makes up for the missing stars by the lovely staff and surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble. They even printed my boarding passes as I had forgot. Location is fab next door to Sunbears and Orangutan rehabilitation centre's. Couldn't of picked a better place. Free water in room each day. Tea and coffee making facilities also in room.
Cons: Very dated but price I paid exceeded all expectations.
4.6 Okay
Cons: Im sure this place was great 30 years ago, but nothing has happened since! Everything is falling apart. We took it for the proximity to the Orangutang rehabilitation center, but at the end its just not really worth it. For the price, you can stay in a nice hotel in Sandakan and just get a Grab to Sepilok or look for one of the other hotels in sepilok. Wouldnt recommend it.
6.3 Good
Pros: So green . Loved the area and proximity to the orang-utan rehabilitation centre .Only good for 1 or 2 nights to see orang-utans and sun bears.
Cons: Expensive for this outdated run down resort . I’m sure the unhygienic pool was the cause of my upset stomach . Don’t sit on the broken sun loungers you will trap your bottom !!!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great swimmingpool, especially also the kids pool. within walking distance to the orangutans
Cons: food wasn’t really great
6.0 Good
Pros: + Perfect location, 5 mins walking distance towards Orang Utan rehabilitation center and sun bear conservation center. + Large and quiet outdoor space, with local traditional jungle style. Beautiful ponds with large amount of tropical plants. We even ran across a Kingfisher when walking on the bamboo bridge!
Cons: - Swimming pool were designed in a nice way, however, it looked like lack of regular maintenance. - Heavy smell of woody moisture in the room where we stayed. Opening window did little help. - In-house cafe (restaurant) offered very basic food but very touristic price (i.e. noodles soup used instant noodles). - Payment method listed at hotel check-out was actually not possible (Alipay), staff seemed to be at a loss and did not know how to use the scanner. We had to use alternative solution (credit card + cash) after long processing time.
9.2 Excellent

Cons: There wasn’t any proper curtains or blinds so a lot of light came in early in the morning. The bath was a little dirty and didn’t have a plug although the rest of the bathroom was very clean. Minor things and would still choose to stay there again!
