7.1 Good
Pros: Overall, the experience in staying at this hotel is great. There's free shuttle service from and to the Echigo-Yuzawa station. The ski resort is right next door and there is a great place for kids to go sledding or playing. The design of the hotel outside is grand and majestic. It looks like a swiss chalet.
Cons: The rooms are old and outdated, but the good thing is it is clean. The beds needs to be replaced as they are really springy.
6.0 Good
Pros: The only option if you want to Ski in Joetsu Kokusai which offers a nice combination of slopes.
Cons: The facility is very outdated. The rooms have not been renovated from the 80s , it would seem. Food options are not amazing and overpriced. Very Japanese style, no apres ski.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: really nothing other than being in the mountains which were beautiful in the winter
Cons: all of the food was horrible and the facility was not kept up nicely. the biggest thing was that they do not tell you the room is charged per person! we spent double what we were quoted.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: the great staff, breakfast
Cons: location is a bit far but hotel provide pick up to everywhere
10.0 Excellent
Pros: good service on staff and perfect at breakfast and dinner.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was really fun to stay in a genuine Japanese ryokan. The rooms were very spacious, particularly after staying in typical tiny Japanese hotel rooms. The staff didn't speak much English but did their best to communicate and were unfailingly polite and kind. It was great to have ski rental on site and the shuttle to take us to the ski resort and pick us up at the end of the day was fantastic. They also took us to a local restaurant and picked us up afterwards one night. I absolutely loved the onsen, particularly the outside baths. So nice after a day on the slopes!
Cons: Although other travellers rate the food highly we didn't find it that good. The evening meal is either a very large Japanese spread with different offerings every day and was mostly too challenging for my kids, or it was a "light meal" (curry or hamburger patty) which was tasty but very small. The breakfast buffet was good but on 2 mornings they had a set meal instead and again much of the Japanese fare didn't go down well with the kids (and even I found a lot of it unappetising when I normally love Japanese food). The rental equipment is a bit dated and the first day of skiing my boots were extremely uncomfortable - I got the feeling the boots were all unisex and my feet are narrow and the boots were too loose around my ankles. Fortunately they were happy to change them for another pair the following day. The area around the hotel was very quiet - maybe it was too early in the season for everything to be open. I had expected a bit more apres ski life. There were very few shops and restaurants in walking distance.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were always willing to help and went out of their way to make our stay special from the moment we were picked up from the station. This even went as far as transporting us to different ski resorts during the week or into town so we could eat out. I have stayed here three times over the last 5-6 years and never been disappointed. The breakfast is just a perfect start for the day out on the slopes and the onsen when you get back is a great way to unwind. They seem to have upgraded the drying room facilities so never had a problem with our gear the next day. If you don’t want to go out for dinner there is always the option to eat in.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and staff was friendly. The Onsen water is one of the best I’ve tried leaving skin smooth afterwards. The staff was very genuine and adjust the hotel price after knowing we have 2 young children. Very thoughtful and peaceful stay
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle service and onsen.
Cons: Rental gear too old.
7.0 Good
Pros: Pickup from property Friendly staff from transportation, front desk and banquet team. Property has coin launderette service Onsen was good and relaxing Room was comfortable
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff where exceptional and the room was a good size and very clean . The option of private onsen was amazing on the rooftop . It also had a dining options .
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The building, the setup, the hotel staff and the onsen. In fact, our whole experience was almost perfect.

Pros: Though the owners are not good in english speaking, they are nice and tried their best to communicate with us. We appreciate that. Also, we like the kotatsu in the room very much. The bathrooms are a bit small, but clean and tidy.

Pros: Staff were kind and helpful we managed to get over the language barrier for all the important stuff. Ski hire and drying room on site and you can ski to the base of the lift, 10 metres away.
Cons: Didn't realise it was smoking permitted in the room, the room smelt strongly of cigarettes.

Pros: Top notch service provided by the staffs, especially when they heard I injured my legs and needed to go clinic, they called the clinic for me and arranged a taxi for me.
Cons: The location wasn’t the best, but I guess it’s hard to strike a balance between a good price and good location.

Always friendly and helpful. - Comfy and warm rooms! - Good brekkie Will be returning - thanks!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really nice and accommodating! The house feels a bit old and when arriving at night it almost felt a bit mysterious. But I must say that the longer time we spent there the more homie and cozy it felt! The shower room was like a mini onsen with a small but super nice and warm bath! The room was cozy and even though we chose a room without bathroom we still had our own sink! Super nice of the host to drive us in to Gala Yuzawa in the morning! Taking a taxi at night from Gala Yuzawa to the hotel costed about 1000 yen for us.
Cons: The toilet booth was very small... And I think I would prefer wooden room doors over metal. The super nice staff and the homie vibe made up for that though!
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice staff! Transportation provided was very useful !
Cons: The room is a bit small for six people

9.6 Excellent
Pros: MODERN RYOKAN. it had a beautiful onsen. Place was clean and pretty, close to all activity areas and shuttle busses to go to different resorts/mountains. No clothes washing facilities however which a lot of hotel's in japan have, so that was a small letdown. would stay again
Cons: there were no washing machines and I didn't like the restaurant at the hotel so we always ate out. Onsen at hotel is famous in the area so expect a big influx of tourists from Tokyo way coming in on the weekend to use the onsen. No other issues and I was there for two weeks

Pros: The amazingly cute family running the place is above the very best. Highly recommend it if you want the best time ever and being taking care of just like you would by your closest relatives. The owner and chef he’s a very good cook. The rest of the team super friendly and will do whatever it takes to make you feel at home and have the best time ever Risa, was instrumental in helping us get sorted with ski lifts, ski gear and whatever else we needed to get around. She is super friendly and again represents the very best of what this hotel offers. You’re right at the ski lift just outside and the rooms are spacious with amazing views. It is probably the best establishment in the whole of yuzawa
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I liked the location of the hotel.
Cons: The safes in our room costed 100 yen each time we opened.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a last minute ski trip to Gala yuzawa. We had to stay a bit further from there due to the busy period but we were picked up by the shuttle bus for the hotel when we arrived. The hotel also had lift passes and ski hire on site, so we were ready to ski in no time with very little trouble. Everything was very easy and we decided to stay longer than we originally planned. The staff were more than happy to help at all times. The food in the restaurant and on-site baths were also great after a day of skiing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to go skiing near Tokyo, stay at this hotel. This is the best service we have ever experienced, the location could not have been better, you are literally 10 meters from the lift which connects you to all of Ishiuchi + all of Gala. You can rent everything from ski equipment and clothing and the staff is incredibly helpful. The traditional Japanese rooms are super cozy and they have an amazing onsen you can use. Thank you so much for making our 3 day ski trip perfect.
7.0 Good
Pros: The powder snow
Cons: The bathroom. It’s was together in one room.

Pros: Amazing service and help provided by the staff..a lady called risa was wonderful..she spoke quite good english. The new years eve dinner was great and staff service was great. Although a budget hotel they serviced us like s 4 star hotel. Thankyou!!
Cons: No shower in the rooms but they were available on 1st floor..but this was a budget hotel in some ways
