Pros: I loooved the decor, it was such a beautiful place. Also when I got there the owner gave me a map and pointed out all the things I could do which was fantastic! My room was very comfortable also.
Cons: No dyeing while I was there! Although I didn't ask, completely forgot until I saw the pots by the kitchen the morning I was leaving haha, potentially it's something you have to request, but no biggie :)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the location is close to tram station, walkable distance from shopping / dinning areas. A lot of good small restaurants in the streets around. Host is nice and speak english. He helped store our luggage after check out. Self-help kitchen available. Nice rooftop. Clean shower room. Fun decoration.
Cons: It would be an unrest night when someone snores a lot at night time/ turn on the light when everybody is sleeping (but one can pick single room to avoid this)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A unique delight, secure, calming and stimulating at the same time. So much more than just a "hostel". Wish I could have stayed longer.
Cons: There is nothing to fault. It's not super modern and that's part of the charm. Everything works.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay at Tamaki Ryokan, the tenant Hiro-san is very nice and friendly, and makes an excellent breakfast (different every day, by the way !). The ryokan is situated in a calm neighborhood, about 20min from downtown by foot. An excellent place to rest after a day visiting the city. The rooms are nice and well set. A very pleasant stay !
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet location. Walking distance to Shin-Suizenji station. Reasonably spacious room. Decent bathroom. Comfortable futon on real tatami floor.
Cons: Lack of elevator means getting in with luggage can be a challenge. Minimal amenities (shared fridge and microwave) Not ideally situated for sightseeing. Bath/wet room a little awkward for taller people.

Pros: It is a very convenient ryokan. Really nothing to complain about, ultra clean, very nice hosts always available. And the japanese breakfast was really good.
Cons: Climbing the steep stairs with a heavy luggage was quite tough. It is also a little bit far from the city center by walking
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was comfortable for the four of us. Owner make the effort of warming up the room for us. Breakfast was superb. The owner only serve the soup & rice when we are seated at the dining table to ensure it’s warm. He also specially prepared ramen for my son, not just instant noodles. Lots of care & thoughtfulness. We had a great stay. Facilities were simple but we felt very comfortable. Great for family or group of friends. Will definitely come back again if we visit Kumamoto.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is suitable for family who travel with kids. The owner is kind enough to give us the Japanese style room at the ground floor. Room size is good and clean. The nearest subway is within 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel and only took few stations to reach Kumamoto shopping area and the famous Castle. We not able to visit the Kumamoto Castle as it still under renovation. Before continue our journey to catch the ferry to Shimabara, we had our breakfast at the hotel which cooked by the owner, the food was good!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Communication was excellent as my plans changed and I needed to make special requests. I had previously stayed at Asobigokoro in Dazaifu and the Kumamoto location was recommended to me. I had such a wonderful experience here, too. From the free coffee bar to the hand-designed map, I love this place and its amenities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff!!!
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff were very helpful
Cons: The walls were extremely thin and as soon as 7am rolled around there was alot of noise from other guests talking. Also showers are not coed and very small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy and lovely guesthouse. We wish to stay again.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very hospitable and friendly and even went through a list of nearby attractions and eateries with us. They have a good collection of boardgames which we played with them and the other guests. There is tea of various kinds, a washer, etc.
Cons: The rooms were a little dusty. The walls are very thin and noise travels so the staff told us to keep our volume down at night, but if you are a sensitive sleeper you may face issues.

Pros: The location is good. There are a mall and a shopping street nearby. Free ramen during 21:00-23:00, free beer in evening when after onsen.
Cons: Too many guests, a little chaos.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a twin corner double which was huge and had excellent lighting. The public bath In the hotel (and all other facilities) was of high Dormy Inn standards. The hotel was beyond walking distance from the train station (easily reached by tram or bus) and across the street from an excellent mall (check the food options in the basement food court) as well as the bus station (great for a direct bus to the airport) and also very near the main shopping arcades of the city and walking distance from the castle.
Cons: No complaints
7.9 Good
Pros: This is a standard Dormy Inn hotel aimed at business travellers. The staff are pleasant, the breakfast buffet is good, it’s very clean and the rooms aren’t a millimetre bigger than what is absolutely essential for a comfortable night.
Cons: The air conditioning was too warm, even when turned to the lowest setting and the doona far too heavy.

7.5 Good
Pros: Everything near by !
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Super convenient location at a shopping street with lots of dining options nearby.
Cons: The bed was a little soft and bouncy.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Super Excellent Location, it is right above one popular attraction place. However, due to the narrow streets nearby we missed the hotel place and needed a few more minutes to find the hotel. Rooms were a bit small but this was expected when we book the hotel. Merely the excellent location is sufficient to justify the staying in this hotel.
Cons: None I can recall.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient location, good facilities, very clean.
Cons: Bed against the wall!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, good location
Cons: no parking but we can find a lot of nearby parking
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The check-in machine is good. The passport origami at the reception is a very nice touch and that makes the guests feel very welcomed. Letting guests pick their facial masks and bathing salt is great. The location is great, right in the middle of the city and is adjacent to all key tourist spots and great restaurants that operate 24-hour. Japan hotel rooms are mostly small. You can rarely find a room that can fit 3 beds yet you're still getting space to walk around and place your luggage. This hotel can offer that.
Cons: It was a bit pricey. The ventilation of the smoking room seems not sufficient.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is very near to Tram station and just be in the middle of Shimotori Shopping Street. Walking distance to Kumamoto castle and Kumamon square. Staffs are very nice and helpful.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was very central with paid parking nearby which the staff gave us a map to help us find it. While breakfast was a slightly different format that other places we stayed in Japan it was sufficient and reasonably priced.
Cons: Everything was as expected so nothing.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location, friendly staff.
Cons: No kitchen and no breakfast. No shower after 9pm because the shower room is inside the guest room which will wake others up
5.8 Okay
Pros: Clean and the bathroom just located in the dorm with changing area..
Cons: The hotel requires you to check out every morning even you stay a few days consecutively... Air ventilation in the room was poor
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in this capsule hotel for 3 nights. Very good location in a Shimotori shopping arcade and Kumamoto Castle is just within a walking distance. Very quiet dorm room. Very comfy and super clean bed. Friendly reception staff. Everything is well equipped. Highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very Clean, quiet, good location, good facilities It's located on a busy shopping street, but the hostel itself is very quiet. Provide bath mat, bath towel, face towel and robe. They have a policy not to talk inside the dorm rooms, so probably not for backpackers who are looking to socialize.
Cons: Only downside is that the beds were very hard. Also of course guests that make noise which kept waking me up.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was ideal as it is situated along the main shopping and food district of Kumamoto; it was also within walking distance to the main attraction: Kumamoto castle. The staff were also rather friendly and helpful, although limited by their English proficiency.
Cons: The staff could have pointed out more specific places to eat or shop rather than merely directing clients to the nearest restaurant or supermarket.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was clean, new towels everyday. There was a place to eat and the location was wonderful. I would definitly come again.
Cons: The toilets are outside the dormitory, so you had to go through the security door and that was a little bit noisy. So I felt sorry for the other people when going to the toilet at night.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: clean, value for money, great location and nice staff
Cons: everything was good, just the curtain on the capsule let's a lot of light through and I had a side curtain, lucky I had sleeping mask

Pros: Public bath was good and clean. Breakfast spread is good. Located opposite a family mart/ seven eleven but quite a challenge to locate the property as it is in some small road.
Cons: We booked a non smoking room for family of 5 back in August. But was only told upon check in that non smoking room was not available. We have a young toddler. This was a concern for us. Pros: Quick service speed in check in and out
Cons: No clear sign of room wifi password. No English translation of where to turn on the air condition.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to train station. Friendly staff. Spacious room. Comfortable bed.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: + The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance from/to the JR Kumamoto Station and the Kumamoto Station Tram Stop on the A Line. The tram line made it easy to travel to/from the downtown area for attractions, malls and eateries. However, if preferred, the JR Kumamoto Station has a wide range of eateries + The staff at the Concierge when we first arrived at the hotel (when it was deemed too early to check in) were very helpful: they checked on the opening and closing times of restaurants and attractions without our requesting them to do it + The facilities and amenities in the room were adequate. The shower curtain was effective in that water did not “escape” onto the floor when we showered
Cons: - The (senior?) staff who actually checked us in when we returned to the hotel at the end of the day after a day of sightseeing was not too helpful. In fact, he sounded condescending - We tend to re-configure the rooms which we stay in somewhat, to meet our preferences. We are unhappy that the Housekeeping staff attempted to re-arrange our things which had been left on the table: it required us to do the re-configuration again. (We re-arranged the room to the original layout before we checked out) - It is a pity that the hotel is not totally connected to the JR Kumamoto Station and the Kumamoto Station Tram Stop by a covered/sheltered walkway. When it rains, it is essential to have an umbrella @ This is neither a positive nor a negative comment. It is just an interesting observation. We heard Christmas carols/songs being played right up to Wednesday, 25 December 2019. On Thursday, 26 December 2019, we did not hear any Christmas music. When we checked out from The New Hotel Kumamoto around 10.30 am on Thursday, 26 December 2019, the staff had been hard at work in removing all evidence of Christmas. Does this happen only in certain parts of Japan? Christmas was still very much evident in Kagoshima and Fukuoka-Hakata which we visited after Kumamoto, until Monday, 30 December 2019. Going by the lyrics of the popular “The 12 Days of Christmas” song, there are 12 days of Christmas
7.5 Good
Pros: Location transportation is good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, wonderful breakfast
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is just next to the train station. Although it might be a little far away from the city central area, the train station provides restaurants, souvenir shops and convenient stores. Also, the room are spacious. There was an ice maker just on the hall way at the floor we stayed.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is right next to the central station so it is very convenient for jr travelers. Rooms are very spacious. Highly recommend.

Pros: The room was comfortable and the staff were friendly. The location was great- close to the castle but also to many shops, restaurants and tram and bus stops. The price was reasonable.

Pros: Great location next to the castle and very central, decent breakfast and friendly service. Fair amount of English spoken.
Cons: Bathrooms needed a major upgrade and room was super tight. Concierge gave a terrible recommendation for an izakaya - food was sub par and a lot of smoking - at least it was cheap and close.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Okay, clean room, quick services.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place, nice room, super Japanese breakfast with a view to kill.
Cons: Lack of English with most staff can create some difficulties in smooth interaction.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just a short stroll into the shopping district but nicely located directly opposite Kumamoto Castle. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. Room was a good size and the beds super comfy.
Cons: Kumamoto castle is under renovations after the 2016 earthquake. So much work is going on but other than the impact on the view there is no bother regarding noise, dust etc. I look forward to returning to the hotel when the castle has been fully restored
5.8 Okay
Pros: It is quiet
Cons: Very disappointed, after confirming the price of the reservation when we arrived, the hotel increased it when we checked out. After the earthquake of 2016 the castle was severely damaged, and is still in reconstruction. There is very few difference between the two sides but the price. The rooms are a little bit old fashion
7.0 Good
Pros: The room was bigger than most rooms in japanese hotels are. The hotel is as close to the castle as you could be.
Cons: The hotel lacks character. It's pretty big, but there is no atmosphere. I picked it because of the proximity to the castle. - unfortunately the castle is under construction and closed most of the time because of the earthquake that hit it a couple of years ago. :(
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view of the castle was great, although the reconstruction scaffolding and cranes do detract. The beds were quite comfortable and the heated mirror that didn’t fog up was nice.

Cons: Nothing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Its location; so close to the city center, Kamitori shopping area, and Kumamoto castle. And it’s quiet and peaceful around this hotel, facing the castle and small canal.

Pros: Breakfast top!
7.0 Good
Pros: Quite large hotel with reasonable price compare to other facillities
Cons: At booking time, there’s free parking for the hotel guests. But at presenting time they said no parking for our car (nissan serena), that’s overheighted. We have to “FIND and PAY” place for overnight parking by ourself. Not recommend for family trip with non-compact car..
