Housekeeping did a fabulous job and was very thorough every time. The breakfast was delicious each morning. The waitors/waitresses were quick, attentive, and friendly.
The bed in the blacksmith room was by far the most uncomfortable bed we have ever stayed in for vacation and kept us from being able to sleep. Each day we were very tired from no sleep the night before
First of all, we were not at Half Mile Farm, but at the main Inn in town. The property is still as lovely as we remembered it, but we did have a couple of issues. While our cottage was very comfortable, it was extremely small, and we tripping over our luggage in the room. This could have easily been remedied by securing the room from the exterior porch door rather than the interior door. We were unable to leave any of our things on the porch (even though it was part of our room) because there was no way to secure it. Use of the porch would have been a great way to deal with our overflow. We also had an issue both mornings with breakfast at the Lodge. It was supposedly offered until 11:30, but was removed before 11:00. We arrived at 10:00 the first morning to find that they were already out of most everything but baked goods. The second morning was actually worse. They were out of everything, and there were about 5 people waiting for "specialty" coffee with one poor girl who was completely overwhelmed. This was a Thursday morning so it wasn't a big weekend. We ended up having to go to Madison's just to get the identical breakfast that should theoretically have been provided at the Lodge. The Library Bar is still one of the nicest spaces I have ever visited, so we enjoyed that space regularly.
Maybe it was the time of year, but the property just seemed to be under-staffed. We had no issue with housekeeping when it came to our room, but other areas of the property just seemed to lack attention, For example, there was a blue plastic (personal) water bottle on top of the drinking fountain next to the pool bar the entire time we were there. And there were used glasses on the tables in the Library when no on was there. Please read the comments above for our issues with breakfast in the Lodge, which seemed to be the most seriously understaffed area. And just a small thing...there were buckets of chilled sparkling wine in the Lodge when we checked in which looked wonderful, but which no one ever offered to either of us. Just makes one feel like maybe they were saving it for more important guests.
Cabin had a strong odor from wood burning fire place. A glass of champagne upon arrival, and the robes and slippers provided do not by any means make the price for this cabin worth while. Very disappointed.
Remote country location but ably 2 miles to city center. Rustic cabins are very comfortable and charming. Cabins have central AC, jet tub, wood fireplace, comfortable bed.
My stay was too short!
This is a beautiful country inn with all of the luxe of a city hotel. The setting is serene and close to the small town of Highlands. The extra touches of lovely bath products, turndown service, and homemade cookies in the lobby just add to the overall experience.
The hors d’oeuvres are just that--tasty, but nothing substantial.
