Great location and history. Fairly relaxing. Staff very friendly and attentive.
Not the attention to detail or cleanliness you would expect for the price. I would suggest that this once was one of the leading hotels. Not a scratch on Claridges/Ritz/Six Senses group etc. Staff were nice enough, but concierge unable to book all requests (moved to another hotel due to flight change for final day and their concierge was able to book a table at a restaurant supposedly unbookable by Alvear). Found debris like crisps under the bed - not that I was looking - I happened to notice while doing Pilates. Toilet seat broken, but promptly fixed the following day (if I had called them, I’m certain it would have been fixed in lightning speed, but I couldn’t be bothered - I wanted to relax - just can’t understand how it was missed when signing off the suite). Other guests in common parts fairly audible. No international papers over breakfast and no cigar cutters on the terrace. Various other elements of detail one would expect in a leading hotel, but were missing.
We expect cleanliness at least . The first day, we were assigned to a room in the 3rd floor and noticed a stench smell in the room . The carpets have stains on it and it did not have a clean smell. Certainly for the money we paid , we expect a clean room . It smells like chlorox poured and mixed with freshener that became stale , basically musty odor. I ignored the stains in the carpets but certainly not the odor . I thought at first it was because maybe the aircon was not opened for long time but when we came back after our dinner, we still could still smell it that we needed up calling the concierge. The manager took the call and sent someone who was holding 2 bottles and seemed to have no idea what was the complaint . He left after 3 seconds in the room indicating that he will call someone . Half an hour later , no one called to follow up about the status . No one until I called back and spoke to the manager . He told me his staff did not smell anything , I told this manager that his staff thought he was bringing water , stayed only for 3 seconds and unable to assess the situation properly . And when I told them that my husband has asthma that he finally suggested that we will be moved to another room . All I wanted is a basic requirement, a clean no smell room . Never mind about fluffy pillows or the views or the gold pillars , those hotels are fairly common somewhere else as well but the most important thing is cleanliness and comfort . As for their breakfast ? No variety , same food served in the same trays every morning . If you want hot meals or omelette, then that is separate order and for about 20 dollars per person / meal not including hot meals is an overkill . And the staff , are all over the place moving in a chaotic symphony esp if the group tours come in throngs. There should be someone overseeing these people otherwise , they keep on being apologetic because they forgot to serve your coffee earlier .
everything met expectation
