Pros: The view was very nice. The little houses have space between them so you feel you are very "alone in the wild". The mosquito net was good.
Cons: One of the owners talked to us about the costs of running the place when we checked in, we found that not very pleasant. Also, you have to read the small letters in the info book in the room because you pay extra for everything (eg. cleaning, firewood).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a bush cabin and we were loving it! Such a cool place and the hosts were really nice and helpful! The bush cabins are fully equipped and very clean!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the uniqueness of the cottage shaped like a dungbeetle! My husband decribed it as 'cute' before we arrived as the location was a surprise for me as part of our honeymoon. The hospitality of the managers gives a lovely extra touch to the tasty breakfast and pre-booked dinners. We will highly reccomend this place as there is nothing else like it! Thank you.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location was great and facilities fair. Restaurant excellent. Staff exceptional
Cons: The need for more shelving in the bush cabins, Stairs in cabin 2 need attention -step planks too narrow and a hand rail suggested at beginning of walkway - step down dangerous

9.6 Excellent
Pros: This place was a real treat. The setting and views were stunning and the accommodation is so comfortable and really feels in keeping with the area. Staff were incredibly friendly and the 2 safaris we booked with the hotel were brilliantly organised and set up. We were even able to have a later check out due to our flight being in the evening and hotel was happy to accommodate which was incredibly helpful and allowed us to enjoy the hotels facilities a bit longer. Only wish we could’ve stayed a 3rd night to get more out of it
Cons: The only small thing we weren’t big fans of was the very strict dinner times and specific tables we needed to sit at in the dining room.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful spot on top of a hill with a colonial feeling. Rooms big with comfy beds and a nice terrace. Be aware that you are off the beaten track. Staff is extremely polite and helpful!
Cons: They tried to persuade us too many times to book their activity. Dinner was average
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Such a beautiful & special location. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. A great experience!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a great property! The location was superb, the accommodation outstanding, the food delightful and the staff were absolutely charming. Archie, the owner regularly visited with his two dogs really made us feel part of the Addo family. As a base to explore Addo Elephant Park we found by far the best way was to take the Lodges own sightseeing trucks and guide. Yes you can drive around the park in your own vehicle, but you certainly won’t see the number and variety of animals that Saul, our driver, was able to find for us.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful property with a taste. I really liked the rooms and the balcony, as well as terrace for breakfast. The staff are very welcoming and will do anything that your stay is amazing!
Cons: It is not specifically towards the property as everything was great. It’s more about how to get there which was crossing the slumps at some point and I didn’t particularly feel safe at that moment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Luxurious surroundings, amazing views and exceptional service.
Cons: N/a

Pros: Very calm and beautiful. Perfect for some days to do the addo park. Great breakfast. Big rooms. Excellent dinner.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I really liked the idea of a little restaurant on the premises with high-quality dinners. There is not much to offer with regards to food in the direct vicinity, so this was a great option for a reasonable price.

Pros: Everything about this place surpassed our expectations! From the minute we arrived we were blown away. Russell was so helpful, kind and accommodating. You really need her there all the time, Ramone in the restaurant was just superb and a pleasure to meet, food was exquisite. Have already recommended to some friends, perfect place to stay if visiting Addo Elephant Park!
Cons: We loved everything but must admit the atmosphere changed slightly when Russell wasn't there. She was just so attentive, knew everyone's name and took time to talk to every table and especially the children that were staying there

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location, exceptional hospitality, amazing wildlife
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorah offerred us comfortable accomodation in high-end tents in the middle of the wilderness without a protective fence between us and animals on the way to the waterhole. An very competent and trust-inspiring staff member welcomed us and explained how Gorah "works" including the risks and how to handle them (Thanks, Travis!). We then went on an afternoon game drive with a highly knowledgeable and professional Ranger (Lesley!). This turned out to be our best game drive of our lives so far! Gorah is seamlessly embedded into Addo park. At 1600 square kilometers the park is big enough to not make you feel like in a zoo while being densely populated with an amazing range of wildlife to keep you in awe.
Cons: Accomodation is pricey but worth every cent in hindsight. My family urged me to stay several nights longer in the end... There's also a wonderful pool area that many visitors (including ourselves) don't seem to be aware of.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Unique situation inside the Parc, very luxurious accommodation, friendly staff, very helpful, recommended alternative road trip via the Karoo back to Cape Town, which was amazing.

Pros: Beautiful property, comfortable rooms, air con was very very welcome. Friendly staff. Quiet location Great food.
Cons: Speed of service at breakfast was beyond slow and one day we actually didn’t get our breakfast at all despite waiting nearly 40 mins and the staff knowing we had to leave at a certain time. Staff were lovely just very slow at service.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfi room.
Cons: problems entering the accommodation. A path to reach the room would be nice, especially after rain
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hopefield Country House is a little piece of heaven adjacent to Addo Elephant Park. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the service is excellent and the place is spotless. We’ll definitely stay again. Thank you for such a memorable stay.
Cons: Not applicable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very friendly warm welcome from the owner and excellent staff. We had dinner one evening which tasted exquisite. The presentation on the plate was first class. The owners wine recommendation did not disappoint, quite simply superb. The candlelight dinning experience in a vintage setting surrounded by an eclectic mix of antiques, grand piano’s and collectibles was unrivalled. I have stayed in many 5star properties, including the Ritz, but this experience outstripped them all. The House and gardens are well kept and the bedroom we stayed in had good a/c, comfortable beds, excellent rain shower and a wide range of channels on the satellite TV. The property is easy to find and and well located if you are visiting Addo Elephant Park and surrounding area. I would definitely stay here again, an unbeatable experience.
Cons: Everything was perfect and was well above my expectations
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice room #3
Cons: Dinner and breakfast „ok“, but should be improved ... service as well
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was delicious although supper was quite expensive.
Cons: There was a very small wardrobe in our deluxe room and no chests of drawers.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Hope field is a quirky country home style house ,with lovely gardens and excellent food . Our room was spacious , clean and the showers looks very new but it wasn’t thermostatically controlled and the water pressure was very poor . It does have a South African feel to it which is nice ,and the staff were all excellent
Cons: See above .
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice garden and swimming pool. Friendly staff. It is a bit remote but they offer a nice 3 course menu with some good wines. Breakfast was nice. Comfortable rooms.
Cons: It's a bit outdated, but all very clean and functioning. I think this is more a matter of different taste.

Cons: Loved everything, even when I try to look for a fault I cant find one.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It’s a amazing place! Beautiful rooms and clean. The breakfast and dinner was delicious! The staff is very lovely. Thank you for your hospitality!
Cons: It’s a little bit far and Waze got me lost, twice. I suggest to put more sinalizations board around the farm.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The enormous room has a nice atmosphere. It is very private with your own garden. Of course the kayaks was a nice extra. The breakfast is freshly prepared on order and very good.
Cons: The bathroom might need a little update. Nothing wrong with it, but it lacked the luxury of the rest of the room. Not really a fault of the property, but Google Maps is not sending you on the correct road. We ended up in a citrus orchard as well as our fellow guests. If you use Google Maps to navigate and you come from Kirkwood, make sure you keep on R336 until you see a sign towards Umlambo.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We are so happy that we have found this place. You have to get a little off road to get there but it is all worth it. A green oasis that is idyllically situated on the riverfront, ideally located near Addo Park. The cottages are luxuriously furnished and have a wonderful garden with jetty from which you can kayak. The restaurant deserves a separate mention in this review: Kayla is a very talented chef and truly an angel in the kitchen. Every night she serves an excellent and creative three-course menu that you do not want to miss. The family who runs the place and the other staff were very welcoming and put in extra efforts to make us feel comfortable. Great place!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Muffins were exceptional. Breakfast staff very friendly
Cons: Would have liked a menu stating what is available for breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was exceptional ! Our luxury tent was out of this world ! Situated on the rivers edge perched above the reeds it provides privacy and peace. Waking up to the sound of birds and watching the small fish jump out of the water to catch the insects was an amazing experience.
Cons: A small microwave or outside braai for that unit would be great to prepare food if you are not wanting to eat out at the main lodge.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are spacious with a big comfortable bed. Having an outdoor shower was fun. Our room had a terrace which faced the waterhole - one day a whole herd of elephant walked past as we sat there. There are some nice communal areas to relax and have a drink in. Breakfast was plentiful and at dinner we enjoyed sitting outside - it was dark but on two nights we heard lions roaring nearby! Our guide Chris was brilliant - very knowledgeable about the park and the wildlife. We saw loads of elephants and various other animals. And on the last day we saw a pair of lions. They were also very accommodating for our baby, making some special food and providing a car seat for the game drives.
Cons: It is expensive but we left feeling it had been fully worth the money
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The overall presentation, facilities and staff were exceptional. The game drives were excellent and very informative.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful spot, a private lodge belonging to Addo. Great safari guides. Beautiful area. Viewing the waterhole from breakfast table was extraordinary. Very friendly staff. Delicious, individually created food every night.
Cons: We were charged a 7,5% concession fee on every meal, game drive and even on the paid room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Whilst the lodge is just outside the main public Addo National Park, the lodge has access to its own private area of the NP with the added bonus that only their safari vehicles have access to it. The lodge has a wonderful setting surrounded by the NP as well as period style buildings and small bedroom lodges set within lovely gardens. Our expert rangers found game and items of interest on all our drives including large elephant herds and even rare black rhino.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Riverbend Lodge exactly met our expectations and our needs. Staying for 2 nights at £800 per night, it was a decision that we did not make lightly, but we are so pleased we did. All inclusive means just that, and the food and wine were very good on every occasion. The rooms and facilities are exactly as described and with only 8 rooms there is a wonderful intimacy. Above all our guide, Darlington who was with us on all four game drives had outstanding knowledge and an empathy with the land and the wildlife that was humbling. Thank you Darlington, for opening our eyes, briefly, to your world.
Cons: Leaving !!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant staff and great game drives with guide Darlington.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful lodge with only few rooms, with amazing views. We got an upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite with it’s own pool. Sometimes the Animals just passed by. The dinner and the Wine pairing was very good. The Game drives were very interesting and allowed us to see all the animals which exist in the park. The stuff was very friendly and always made your wish come true. By departure they also have cleaned our car before.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful stay. The game drives were exceptional. We were not new to this activity, but our guide, John, was the best I've ever encountered in SA. The food was very delicious too!

Pros: The stay was like a fairy tale! We arrived in the evening, there was no electricity because of a thunderstorm. The host Moses was waiting for us with candles and the barbeque. During dinner the electricity came back. In the next morning we saw animals from our terrace and also in the garden near the pool. Moses is a very friendly host, we liked the talks with him a lot. Breakfast and barbeque were very good! It's very quiet in the lodge, there are only 3 rooms. We never heard any other guests.
Cons: Everything was good! :-)

Pros: Mozes is probably the best host we ever had, takes real good care of his guests. The estate was great located, very quit, with a lot of animals on the property even girafs! We also had a lovely dinner en breakfast.

Pros: We got an upgrade to the honeymoon sweet wich we loved!
Cons: We did not see any wildlife by the lodge. Just bad luck I guess
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The housekeeper was great, good breakfast, great bbq. The location is more than beautiful, saw 3 of the big 5 from the balcony in 2days. Giraffes and other animals on site. Beautiful view of the stars at night, close to the Addo - luxury rooms with plenty space, clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is located right down the road from the Main Addo Park entrance (on the north side of the Addo). The place got its own game farm with free roaming animals that is not found in the Addo park. My partner really wanted to see giraffes , and this place delivered on that promise as we could get real close to them here. The accommodation itself consists of one big wooden lodge with about 3 or 4 rooms and a shared kitchen, living room pool, deck area . The view from the deck over the Addo is just perfect. Our room had a great bed and bathroom. The shower is outside, which was a really great touch , watching over the bushveld while showering is another experience :). There is a bath inside , as it can be a bit chilly depending on the time of year to shower outside. One of the best parts were Moses who cooked our breakfasts and dinner to perfection. Of all the "braais" we had on our garden route trip, this was the best one, highly recommend booking this with Moses. He was the perfect host and always available and patient with us.
Cons: The property is between a small railway line and small road going along the northern side of the Addo , while it is overall very quiet and not a lot of cars on the road or very little rail activity, it was noticeable. The outside shower head can do with a little refreshing so it sprays more evenly , and the bath could maybe do with one of those shower handles attached to the tap for when it is too cold to shower outside.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Moses is an excellent host, the location is superb. You can do your own private safari. Please do use the braai he offers or ask him for other meals he prepares. Bed and bedlinnen superb
Cons: Be aware that the location is far from restaurants and shops. Thus you need to plan accordingly for

7.0 Good
Pros: Very scenic. Lovely views. Beautiful landscape. Cottage was very comfortable for 4 people.
Cons: Supper was very good and tasty but very pricy.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice poolarea and proper rooms and a friendly atmosphere. A gluten allergic problem was managed, and a very good breakfast. BB placed 30 km from maingate to Addo Elephant Park.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The guest house is nicely located in the middle of nowhere, a 20-30 minutes drive from the Addo. The staff was very friendly. The cottage was huge, nice and cozy, and with pleasant views on the valley. The kids enjoyed the company of all the curious dogs and especially of the 5 puppies.
Cons: We were there possibly during the hottest days of the year and we suffered a bit of having the air conditioning only in the bedroom. An air con in the living room/kitchen/main area would be better since it would affect also those sleeping on the upper floor. We wanted to visit their farm/private reserve but it seems possible only with their vehicle and at certain times, which unfortunately did not fit us. Maybe a bit more flexibility would be nicely appreciate by the customers. We were invited to the special dinner running for Valentine’s day and we booked it but we found the food was nothing special. But it was of a reasonable price in any case (and since i am Italian, my standards may be higher than those of others :).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful area Main room was great Good game viewing in the park
Cons: No cooling in upstairs room 30 mins drive from Addo Park No good grocery stores in the area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very cosy family run hotel in a gorgeous setting. Our villa was very big and comfortable, the hotel garden was lovely and the dinner offered by hotel was very nice with fantastic views over a valley with a buffalo herd. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Our kids loved the puppies next to the play ground.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked everything! The location and especially the friendly staff!
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The big bed
Cons: They don't know the first thing about hospitality. The receptionist tells you strictly the necessary as if she recites a phonebook. The room isn't what you would call hygienic. The breakfast room is infected with bugs that crawl on the ceiling over your table.the breakfast us heavy and big but not good. The sheets were dirty. When we came back at 10 pm from the safari , the gate didn't open. There had been already difficulties with the gate ( we heard afterwards) and it just didn't open. We pushed the bell button to see if someone could open, finally the receptionist got on the phone and when I explained to her what was happening she just hung up. We then opened the motor of the gate and put it on manual. Luckily we have the same system at home so we knew how to solve it. The next day I talked to her about it and instead of an apology she was cross with me that I had woken her up. On top of this they counted R 200 per person more than the actual cost of the safari but again when mentioning this, I got " that's not true, you lie' eyes and excuses upon excuses but never an apology or a commercial gesture. No, honestly, better to pay a few R 100 more and be treated like a guest then to go to this penitentiary facility!

Pros: Keith's enthusiasm for ecological and sustainable construction, lifestyle and business is contagious. The beautiful and well-equipped accommodations are spread around a beautifully landscaped garden. There is a natural pool, a fireplace, many old trees and an abundance of birds and butterflies. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely return.
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff very friendly, accommodation had plenty of room.
Cons: Breakfast a little short on portion size, cleanliness of room could have been better e.g shower floor very dirty and room generally dusty.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff are friendly and made helpful recommendations. The email from the owner prior to the stay was particularly helpful.
Cons: Very basic facilities and the rooms are very dated. For what you pay it’s fine, but wouldn’t recommend to travellers used to hotel type facilities - we were fine as we have stayed in hostels travelling

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was absolutely amazing and the views breathtaking. From arrival to departure we were all smiles. Thank you team umlambo river lodge. And a special mention too Kaylee, wow you are truelly amazing, u made our weekend that extra special thank you
Cons: Loved everything, even when I try to look for a fault I cant find one.
