Pros: We loved this place! We stayed in the suite with the private pool. ( suite carioca) It definitely made our trip more special. It gives you complete privacy. The place is covered with greenery & plants. Has an amazing view of the city. The hosts decorated this gorgeous place with thinking of every little detail . The beds are extremely comfy it was a struggle to wake up :) Host and the stuff was such nice and caring people, they gave us great recommendations. And THAT BREAKFAST! You will feel like a king. You are being served with different china everyday one more beautiful than other. From eggs to fruits and cakes it has a huge breakfast . We were so full every morning but couldn’t stop eating cause everything was so yummy. Of course lets not forget about their cute dog Paco! Sweetest detAil of the place
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Warm welcome from host Claudio, who went out of his way to make our stay safe and enjoyable. Claudio told us what to see, where to eat and organised cabs to take us everywhere. Very good staff who attended to our every need.
Cons: Stairs but porter service was amazing.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The breakfast supplied by Claudio was soooooooo good , lots of choice , different every day ! Claudio extremely helpful with info. The trolley right outside the door! Going up through the Santa Theresa neighborhood! Our lovely balcony room with everything you could want in it.
Cons: Could have done without the long many steps up to our room! Hard for an 88 year old, if we had known could have asked for a lower balcony room,
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The breakfast was magnificent and the location ideal. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. The place is like a secret garden!
Cons: Would have been good to have complimentary tea and coffee available. Our room was also a little noisy but that’s because we chose to have windows open rather than aircon on.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The staff was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was consistently excellent.
Excellent 10.0

Excellent 10.0
Pros: We loved everything! The room was stylish, clean & comfortable. The pool area is beautiful and the owners & staff clearly care about delivering a great experience. Breakfast was excellent! Beautifully presented, all fresh hand baked & so much to eat. The hosts Claudio & Gabriel & Eli were helpful & informative. Paco the dog was also friendly & lovely to have around..! The property & gardens are very well maintained & attractive. So many beautiful birds & little monkeys in the trees it really is a very special place. We are so happy we stayed here. & it was the perfect location for Carnival under 10 minutes walk to Lapa arches.
Cons: Nothing! We couldn’t improve a thing thanks for a lovely stay :)

Excellent 10.0
Pros: View. Honor bar at the pool. People we met from around the world. Cheese filled bread. Chicken filled muffin. Eggs made to order. Laid back atmosphere.
Cons: No TV to watch the news. Maybe that was a good thing for vacation.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Fabulous location. Excellent facilities. Brilliant host.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: thank you so much! it is a magical place with wonderful people... i will come back!!!!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: View was magnificent, as was locality. We had a room with a shared bathroom. Room was more than adequate, but as we had the shared bathroom a mirror would have been handy
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Great location. AMAZING view. Very friendly owner & manager !!! Beautiful decoration & house.
Cons: Hard to have a smile from the daily staff. Our room was in front of the kitchen so early wake up @ 6am each day :-(
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Gorgeous property and the most welcoming staff. Breakfast and the view from it is exceptional. Pool area was clean and comfortable with the bonus of a self service bar. Already booked our next stay!
Excellent 9.0
Pros: This property is located in Santa Teresa, a neighborhood with a historical and cultural feel. Colonial and turn of the century architecture everywhere and access to good bars and restaurants close by. My friends and I enjoyed breathtaking views of the bay right from the breakfast room and from the pool area. Adriana and her staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. If you're visiting Rio, consider staying at Gerthrudes Bed and Breakfast.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Located in a nice area. Beautiful house with wonderful rooms and outstanding service. I really enjoyed my stay!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: A real gem of a guest house in a beautifully tranquil part of Santa Teresa, above Rio city centre. The 1930s house, elegant rooms, lush gardens and period decor are wonderful - but best of all are the hosts Chico and Guido who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They provide a delicious outdoor breakfast each morning, and offer advice on places to see (and not to see!), and offer a wealth of experience of the city. A welcoming oasis of calm amidst the hustle of the city below. Highly recommended.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Our charming room, the delightful, delicious breakfast on the patio, the art everywhere, the tropical gardens, walking distance to an art museum, the lovely vibe of the neighborhood and most, the warmth of the proprietors.
Cons: Nothing to not like
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Quiet location, wonderful hosts (Guido and Francisco, and Blanca), delicious breakfast with freshly squeezed fruit juices. The house and garden are exceptionally beautiful and restored.
Cons: Using the television was a little bit tricky but we were able to figure it out! The house is gorgeous, however sound traveled easily within the rooms.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The property is amazing, set in the hills so the views are vast. The garden is very well maintained and on sunny days it is rather special to have breakfast on the terrace.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Guido and Fransisco are absolutely great! We felt welcome and looked after. The house is gorgeous and is set in a very nice part of Santa Teresa - with incredible views of Sugar Loaf and on a clear day Christ the Redeemer. The house is cleaned to a high standard every day and Guido and Fransisco are always around to help with any questions you might have. The breakfast in the garden is just special. A very personal touch on the food - and it really made our stay. Absolutely recommend!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: More quiet location, still very well connected but with a more authentic feel. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff very helpful. There’s a lot to do in the area and the house itself is extremely cozy.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very helpful staff who spoke good English
Excellent 10.0
Pros: My stay at the Mama Ruisa Boutique Hotel was a real unique and amazing experience: the staff is super welcoming and extremely helpful in any issue. Wifi worked perfectly and the breakfeast (I had the Parisienne with tea) was delicous. Beds are huge and super comfortable and the Air Con was a life saver during these hot ad humid days. And I loved the view at the sugar loaf and over the bay as well as the view from my room to the tropical garden. The hotel is located in the bohemian district of Santa Teresa. A really nice neighbourhood with little shops, bars and cafes - not the Rio you might expect and it gives a refreshing new look on Rio de Janeiro. But the Copacana and Ipanema beach are not too far away: Uber or taxis work really good. The building is an old colonial villa - you don't see from the outside how huge it is and it's retro intererior design with delicate pieces from the 1970 and early 1980, I would say, are conctantly changed and rearranged by the owner, who has truly a real taste for design and atmosphere. My highlight was the pool in the lush garden where orchids are hanging down and flowers fall slowly into the water while I was swimming around - my last days in South America after a 2-month-travel couldn't have been more perfect! Thanks again to all of you :)
Good 7.0
Pros: Excellent breakfast, large upgraded room, helpful staff, nice views from the terrace. Authentic.
Cons: Bathroom very dated with inconvenient shower door which you had to navigate to enter - and it leaked. Poor noise insulation between rooms and noisy floors.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. Incredible attention to detail, beautifully curated furniture and art, and a stunning setting (views onto the bay, gorgeous garden and pool). Breakfast on the veranda was the best!
Cons:
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Amazing decor. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Recommend 100%
Cons: -
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Jean Michel and his whole team are great hosts, with a lot of insides about the best places to visit in Rio. The hotel itself is incredible lovely, specially if you are an Brazilian furniture lover, and our room had a breathtaking view on the sugar loaf. To eat a fresh breakfast on the balcony, after taking a refreshing swim in the pool, was the best start into the day we could imagine!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The experience at Mama Ruisa was amazing and helped make this trip one of my all time favorites. There for 2 weeks, one alone for work and one for vacation with my partner, the staff and the general ambiance of the hotel were perfect. Santa Teresa is a gem with all the culture, art, dancing, and delicious food/drinks you could want. It also happens to be super convenient to the rest of the city. I can’t recommend this place enough! As of my stay, they do have a sweet little cat that is very friendly. Just a heads up if you’re allergic.
Cons: On the weekends and especially close to Carnival, Lapa is hopping and you can hear the parties a little too well. It didn’t bother us and we went out pretty late anyway. If you close the windows and turn on the air, the music usually fades with the white noise. Besides, the samba and funk are part of the ambiance of the neighborhood!

Pros: Proximity to the airport. Wonderful views of Sugar Loaf Mountain & Christ the Redeemer from the rooftops when having breakfast.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Easy in and out
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: Location
Cons: Rude staff, older building and not well kept, small room and not a good value for the money.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The location was great for traveling as it was beside the airport, also there were lots of restaurants and stores around the hotel. But I mostly enjoyed the beautiful view of Rio out the window, and from the upstairs restaurant.
Cons: Nothing
Okay 5.0
Pros: The room was quite comfortable. We had the suite and it was very nice.
Cons: The Internet went down in the evening and the front desk was not interested in getting it back up again.

Pros: Central location great for access to many sights and the Sambadrome for Carnival . Breakfast was a great buffet with plenty of choice. View was excellent from the terrace bar we social see Sugar Loaf and Christ Redeemer - from the room was just roof tops etc.
Cons: Beds were a bit hard and spartan but otherwise fine
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Gorgeous views from the top floor and pool!
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Center location, clean, nice rooftop, value for money. Can walk to cathedral or seleron steps... I want to stay again, if I come back to Rio.
Cons: It was carnival, many party around here. A bit noisy, but all of ok.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Good location, near to a subway station. Fast check in and check out. Friendly staff. The hotel provides the daily excursion tours. Many short useful printed instructions in detail regarding the provided services. Good breakfast. The pool is at the roof. The room #1708, relatively silent, nice view. Coffee machine Tres, TV with an USB port, Blackout curtains, comfortable bed. Best bathtub.
Cons: Noise from a corridor. Not changed towels, not adding new shampoo and bath mousse. Air conditioning works only at closed windows
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very convenient location to reach centre of Rio and museums as well as head to/from SDU airport. Hotel not at the beach front, so don't expect sea view although we got very nice clean room with the view to the city centre, nearby hills and famous Christ statue. Special thanks to the amazing and very hospitable stuff! Great team!
Cons: All is good except high price for the NY eve (which is expected in Rio anyways). Some parts in the nearby area are not recommended to walk at dark time due to safety reasons - and again, this is Rio, so don't complain when you are there. Just enjoy the weather and vibe :))
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Location and room
Cons: Sauna too small as the pool
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very good breakfast
Excellent 9.2
Pros: We made a mistake with our reservation which the gentleman at the front desk fixed for us without problem, truly excellent service! The staff are lovely and the people at the front desk speak really good English! Sadly the weather was a little poor but otherwise the top floor bar and pool would be amazing! The views are amazing! The room was clean, the bed super comfy and a huge hot shower!
Cons: Centro is not the best place to go for a walk after dark but during daytime the location is a good base to start exploring the city. The hotel restaurant food is good but the atmosphere is not so good.. it's cold, lights super bright and no music so you can hear the kitchen staff messing about.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The hotel staff was very polite and pleasant. The interior of the lobby very well designed. The room was comfortable with a nice double bed and a sofa which could be used for a child, but not for third adult, as it is not allowed to stay in one room more than two adults.
Cons: The breakfast was very good. Moreover, they cook an eggs/omelet right in front of guest. However, I would be glad to see a little bit more variety of food.
Good 7.0
Pros: Modern looking and comfortable room.
Cons: Hotel located in a business district. Not much open upon our arrival at 5pm on a Friday night. We were told a Brazilian style Buffet was available in the Restaurant. Hotel restaurant did not open until 7pm and menu was limited. No buffet.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Walking distance to local airport. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Great breakfast.
Cons: Not suitable for longer stays, as walking from there doesn't seem safe.
Okay 4.0
Pros: The attention to details from the employees and their dedication. The 24 hours food availability.
Cons: The hotel is old and some of the furnitures are old including the tv. the tv had to be repaired and still it was not working properly. With the amount charged for the hotel, this could be replaced at little less than 3 to 4 night charges.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Room, comfort and staff.
Cons: Restaurant can be better in terms of food quality and diversity. Breakfast in busy periods doesn't have enough room for people and cleaning is not the best.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Every thing

Pros: Acomodações.
Cons: Confirmações de reserva.
Good 7.0
Pros: Staff is very friendly and ready to help. Location is awesome. Santos Dumont airport is literally on the corner.
Cons: The check in can take ages. We got there very late. There were a queue of around 7 guest. All the bureaucrat procedures for check in takes really long. Really it's not a staff fault. The place should work to put in place a more quick and efficient system.

Pros: The staff are great. The breakfast is quite good. On the morning of Feb 22, a young man who speaks English helped me with several things. He is polite, is an excellent communicator and is also friendly and warm. He helped me hail a taxi, find a bloco, and carried my bag to the taxi. I did not ask for his name but he has short hair with some lighter bleached hair on top. Thank you so much!
Cons: The bathroom had not been cleaned. There long hairs on the toilet seat!

Pros: The location is perfect. The staff is very helpful. The rooms are clean and the ones situated around the patio are very quiet (but obviously without a view). The streets around the hotel become rather festive during carnaval. Breakfast is good. I enjoyed my stay at Itajuba and would definately book there again.
Good 7.0
Pros: Location is perfect, price is good including basic breakfast
Cons: Service is only in Portuguese, no English or Spanish. Impossible to communicate with the staff. Hotel is very basic, as expected from the price.nobody cleaned our room for 2 days although we asked.
Good 7.0
Cons: I did not like much of the internet. It is really slow.
