I couldn’t even rent the car because they wanted to put on a hold on my credit card that was more than double the actual amount. I figured maybe a little higher, but I couldn’t rent the car and there was no way for me to cancel through Kayak or Hertz. Each told me the other had to cancel, so I have no idea if I’m getting charged or anything? This is why zipcar is better.Reviewed 11 May 2026

There was a long wait to receive the car. The car arrived with a cut tire; luckily I noticed it before leaving, and they replaced it quickly. One of the windshield wipers was also faulty.Reviewed 26 Feb 2026

Right so Hertz didn’t have the car. They didn’t have cars for around 15 people who came on time for their reservations. They refused to take responsibility and snapped at us for getting upset. We had ever right to be. We made reservations and paid ahead of time. They told us they had no cars. There were none in any location in all of the city. How a car company whose sole business is focused on renting and reserving cars could operate this way is beyond me. Absolute clowns. Their initial solution was to tell people to wait and “see” for up to 3 hours if a car would become available. That’s insane. I ended up having to go book a car at an airport in New Jersey for double the price. Horrible. I’ll never trust Hertz again.Reviewed 4 Aug 2025

Front desk unhelpful. We rented a Tesla. Asked where & how to charge it. They said "no idea." We spent hours in the boonies trying to figure it out. Front desk NEVER answered the phone Returned the car to an incredibly surly attendant who yelled at us "move the f-ing car over here!" Quite an experience at 8am.Reviewed 5 Jul 2025

Clarity that manager choice included electric cars would have been nice. I was trying to be helpful, but I couldn’t guarantee I could return an electric car charged, so I avoided the electric managers choice option, but they still tried to give me one. I had to pay more to get a non-electric car, when I could’ve paid the same if I had just picked a specific gas car originally. Also the return was really weird. Someone without any hertz clothing or ID tried to have me give him the keys in White Plains.Reviewed 29 Dec 2024
