Pros: Excellent breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff. The building is a little tired, but overall excellent.
6.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: First room allocated, room 6, window frame was rotton and and gap at bottom of window allowed cold wind in the room. Next room, room 10, frames were rotting but no gaps. Smallest tv l have seen in a long timeDated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very covienient location, set in quiet picturesque grounds. An excellent breakfast with lots of choice, all well cooked and presented with helpful staff. Good sized double room very clean with everything you need. A friendly and relaxing hotel.
Cons: Clearly has been a grand statement hotel, but sadly is in need of refurbishment, but the decor did not detract from a very pleasant stay
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were superb. Breakfast really good and very well priced accommodation.
Cons: Hotel is a little dated and could do with tidying up. (repaint, new carpets, decor and a couple of broken windows repaired (these were out of public gaze)).

Kings Head Masham By Greene King Inns - Ripon - Building
3
8.1 Excellent (1,040 reviews)
₹ 5,899+
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Kings Head Masham by Greene King Inns in Ripon, you'll be in the historical district, within a 15-minute drive of Yorkshire Dales National Park and Lightwater Valley Theme Park. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were very nice and dog friendly. Food was lovely.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room in good condition. Very attractive decor and huge, comfortable bed. Staff were really friendly although the service in the dining room was inconsistent in quality, excellent on Sunday morning but not so good on Friday evening. For instance, the young woman waiting on us forgot to bring us a pudding menu and my ordered hot drink never arrived. However, breakfast service on the day we ate in was really efficient; for instance my two cups of decaf coffee were brought quickly. I must make clear that the food at both meals was really good.
Cons: The bath is very narrow and instead of a shower screen they have a shower curtain. The latter wraps itself around you and makes showering really difficult. They need to install shower screens. If they don’t, much as we liked the hotel, we won’t book again and we are regular visitors to Masham as my wife has many family members in the area. Everything else about the room was positive. We were told they changed to shower curtains for hygiene reasons - they are washable. Shower screens if they are not fixed in position can, however, be effectively and thoroughly cleaned. So the proposed change to screens is advisable.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room and great location
Cons: We would have preferred an earlier check in
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We ate both nights in the pub, food was very nice and of a high standard on both nights. We ate breakfast on both mornings too, which again was nice, but some minor tweaks could make the breakfast experience even better.
Cons: In the home town of Theakston's the pub ran out of XB on Friday evening having only had two pints :-( A number of other beers then ran out also. I was hoping for the XB to be back on on Saturday night, but alas, no. Theakston's Best was well kept, but its not XB! Breakfast suggestions - invest in a coffee machine rather than flasks of filter coffee - it was't the hottest, and maybe a wider selection of bread for toasting - but now I'm being piccy!
6.0 Good
Pros: Apart from the very low timber beams my room was very nice. Pub was warm and welcoming. Great location in Masham square.
Cons: Staff were very friendly but it was a bit Basil Fawlty! Most of the breakfasts came out wrong and the waitress at dinner didn't have much of a clue bless her. When we ordered a bottle of Chablis she asked if it was red or white wine. Most of the Tv stations didn't work in any of the 4 rooms we stayed in. All the real ale ran out including Black Sheep and Theakstons - considering these two famous breweries are only yards away it was a bit surprising! They even ran out of milk on Saturday morning and marmalade on Sunday - with a lot of people booked in for breakfast. I am 6'3" tall and one of my friends is taller - our rooms were both full of beams at forehead height. (There were a lot of warning signs to be fair, but it is very easy to forget) We were not told about this or offered different rooms.
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff apologising and admitting it was the hotel's fault that the toilet seat completely came off after they failed to repair it. The refurbishment is lovely, rooms very clean and the hotel handily located in the market square. Overall a lovely stay.
Cons: The loose toilet seat not being fixed after we reported it to reception.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: There is the option to eat in the dining room or the bar, both of which are well presented, cosy and clean - I ate in the bar as there was more atmosphere on a quiet night. Good choice of menu for dinner and the breakfast has extensive options with the hot option being freshly cooked rather that buffet style. My room was cosy and clean- I had a small problem with a tap in the en-suite which was addressed quickly when I brought it to the attention of the staff
Cons: The tap problem could have been picked up earlier as it should have been obvious when cleaning the room- otherwise very happy and good value for money
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All of it ! Good bar, nice food and excellent service.
Cons: Really good stay at The King's Head. Lovely staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very attentive staff. Meals were excellent and well presented. Room had a few odd quirks.
Cons: Dogs are allowed in, not only allowed in but encouraged.

7.3 Good
Pros: Pleasant staff, historical and scenic setting on the village square. Excellent room facilities and very good food.
Cons: No.
7.7 Good
Pros: the super kingsize bed was amazingly comfortable and the staff were very helpful.
6.0 Good
Pros: Convenient and easy to find. Interesting building in an attractive town. Staff very friendly and willing.
Cons: Bedroom a bit small and double bedded rather than the twin beds we asked for.
7.6 Good
Pros: Very comfortable hotel.
Cons: Would have liked to have been given the option to book a table for dinner at the time of making the booking on the internet. The dining room was very full and we could not get the time we wanted. If we had known we would have booked on line.
8.0 Excellent

Cons:

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The comfort and cleanliness of the room . The special touches of thoughtful staff . Best breakfast ever . Genuine warm and welcoming staff . Will be a frequent visitor.
Cons: Having to spend 40 to 50 pounds on taxis to and from ripon town centre . No pubs in north stainley.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very confortable and cosy bedroom, very welcoming after several hours driving in strong wind and pouring rain. The setting is very attractive, the owner and the staff extremely friendly and the breakfasts delicious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place to stay . The room was very comfortable and cosy lots of lovely extras like chocolates on the bed , it was valentines so the owner left heart cupcakes in the room and also homemade heart biscuits . Fridge with water and fresh milk , tea and coffee making facilities. “Temple spa” toiletries in the bath room . Lots of useful information in the room . The owner and the staff were very friendly and very efficient. The breakfast was amazing( I ordered kippers the night before using the telephone in the room ) and the breakfast room was lovely . The attention to detail is why this accommodation is definitely 5 star ! We will definitely recommend to friends and we will stay here again .
Cons: There was nothing not to like !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All of it, it was wonderful.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The facilities were nice and the rooms were actually very comfortable. The homemade chocolates and biscuits really put a nice finishing touch on everything. The surrounding grounds, buildings, and fountains were pretty.
Cons: There was less interaction than a hotel as you checked yourself in after a phone call with the owner with instructions. Great staff running the kitchens, but again no owner. Went to reception to check out (though we wouldn't normally do this) and all guests bills were sitting out along with a credit card machine. We didn't know if we were supposed to bill/pay ourself so made a call to the owner in which we were told to get ahold of her kitchen staff to do billing. If the owner was taking vacation and having others run for the duration, a note would have been nice. But if this is a full hands-off production, a hotel has more hospitality. Also further instructions in reception room on 'how' to do things would be helpful.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Natalie was very friendly and made sure we had all that we needed. The breakfast was lovely, liked that i had a choice of vegetarian options. It was a great location to visit the Black Sheep Brewery and for lovely walks. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Cons: The only thing that could have been better with the room is the shower, it had very low water pressure so was just a trickle of water when it was on, but other then that brilliant.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, welcoming and good communication on checking in. Very relaxing atmosphere and breakfast was very nice. In a superb location right next to Black Sheep Brewery and 5 mins walk to the market square. I love Masham, so friendly.
Cons: If I was really struggling to find something negative I guess it would be that the shower cubicle was a bit small but fit for purpose so it would be wrong to say we didn't like it.
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast fine, good location within short walking distance of village square, pubs, restaurants.
Cons: Older style building with usual retro fit problems of space, especially the size of the shower cubicle, stairs (can be difficult with luggage). We stayed there in 2014 when it was owned and run by the previous owners who, I understand, have now retired and it has been taken over by Natalie. Whilst Natalie was very pleasant and obliging, she has a young school age child and her attention to guests sometimes appeared distracted. I did not see any other staff but that does not mean to say that there wasn't any in the kitchen somewhere.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Delightful host. Excellent breakfast. Clean and comfortable.
Cons: Nil. No television in room but actually found this a plus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Natalie was extremely helpful and accommodated our late check in due to weather and traffic. Breakfast was fantastic. Masham is lovely, I wish our stay was longer as there is so much to do and see around.
