The service was good both when picking up the car and when returning it. The cleanliness was average, and the gas tank wasn't full, but I returned it full.
The counter associate told me as Check-in that not only did they not have any pickup trucks available, but that Hertz in central Texas does not offer same-day truck rentals. I spoke with a customer service agent at their 800 number, but she only wasted my time with non-solutions. I canceled my reservation, then rented directly with Enterprise.

I did not get the rental that I reserved, and instead the car I got had a more cramped cabin with less features than I wanted. The pickup and dropoff location was also changed from the airport to a location 20 minutes away. Since Hertz did not have a shuttle, I had to pay for a Lyft both ways.

Hertz is one of the rental companies "of last resort" for me and I remembered why on this trip. Surprise $25 charge to "upgrade" to a gas-powered vehicle from the "supplier's choice" EV. I have no objection to EVs, but the requirement to charge the vehicle before returning when the rental facility has chargers is a deal breaker when the car has to be returned early in the morning after a drive. The car we got had relatively high mileage for a rental and the Bluetooth functionality barely worked. Staff was... fine. Not exactly friendly but not not helpful.

Definitely need improvement with "COMMUNICATION"!!!!!
Never was able to acquire rental car in the chaos of the eclipse. I booked several weeks in advance. They dont offer afterhours pickup. And we're closed on Sunday. Turo is gonna beat all the rental car businesses.
