Cons: I booked to pick up in Austin and when I arrived at he airport they said it was a reservation for the downtown location. Why would the default Austin location not be the airport? Perhaps you should put a warning so it's more clear.

Pros: Got a car I ordered, a compact.
Cons: I flew into Austin and found out car was across town. Be careful to double check location. Still had to pay for first day rental even though i could not pick up ultil the next day, as they were closed when i landed. Had to take taxis which added significantly to my total bill. Had to pay extra fee to return to airport. Car was pretty well beat up but got the job done for the rest of the trip.

Unfortunately Had Better Experiences
Pros: It was a vehicle than ran great and was at least comfortable from getting us to point B from point A.
Cons: Our plane was delayed and arrived to Austin, TX late. After a taxi-ride to the Hertz location the representative let us know that our reserved medium size car had been rented out and all he had left were Full-Sized and it would be an upcharge. We were hung out to dry, forced to pay an upcharge for a larger vehicle we didnt reserve. He offered a Hyuandai Sonota or Toyota Camry. We asked for the Camry and he proceeded to let us know that we couldnt actually take that one because the oil needed to be changed. Upon taking us out to the vehicle, it was not clean (I have pictures). Both the exterior and the interior had dirt and dust throughout. It also was not as new as advertised, and did not meet the level of Hertz Rentals I am accustomed to (they are a corporate partner of my business). Overall, we were forced into an upcharged, larger vehicle that was not to standard.

Stranded in 95 degree weather bc dead battery.
Pros: Not applicable.
Cons: Car battery died in 95 degree heat on Sat. Oak Hill closed at 12pm, and we were not able to get assisted until 2 hours later by AAA. No reimbursements were provided from the AUS Hertz location upon car exchange.

Pros: Asked for airport pick up/drop off and was transferred without our knowledge to off site pick up/drop off. This made very uncomfortable surprise.
Pros: This was the only rental co. that still had cars available in AUS, and there was no drop off fee for returning in SAT
Cons: The signs in AUS direct you to the third deck in the parking garage( a long walk) and then a short, dour woman informed me that I had to go back to the rental counter, complete the contract, and return for my car. Every other customer (3 that I saw) did the same thing. Very annoying!
Trying to find the car return in SAT was another ordeal. They are WAY off airport and the signs are hard to follow.

Horrible roadside assistance! Avoid Payless
Pros: Car in good working order, comfortable and well maintained
Cons: Worst experience dealing with roadside assistance. I damaged the car hitting something in the road. 100% my fault. Called at 8pm to arrange a tow truck to swap out cars. 9:30am THE NEXT MORNING the facility finally got the car in and wanted to send me another car. Useless telephone support: Unable to get a hold of the branch. Was passed back and forth with nothing getting done.
My $150 "PayLess" rental car cost me over $300 because of taxis I had to pay for because the car swap they promised me never happened.
Avoid this company!!!!!

Pros: Long line at pick-up, couldn't hear the clerk and thus got charged an extra $30 for roadside assistance (which I already have through AAA).
Cons: 1) The staff person at the counter repeatedly tried to bait-and-switch me from a car to an SUV at 50% greater cost. She would not give up, saying that they were short of the cars, but had plenty of the SUVs. In fact there were numerous identical cars (down to the color) in the lot.
2) The scratch and dent form was not filled out. The Payless attendant refused to fill it out, and told me to have the exit attendant fill it out. The exit attendant was bemused when I told him what the Payless attendant told me to do. He did so with some bewildered cheer.
3) Both the counter and the lot were located at the furthest and most inconvenient locations among the rental agencies.
4) I was promised a Ford Focus with the reservation, but was given a Chevy Impala.
5) The staff were generally colorless and indifferent -- except for the initial agent who was more simply antagonizing.

Cons: Marking up existing damage to the car with a highlighter and then giving me a copy without the markup for me to verify with the car. Seems like a recipe for insurance/damage fraud although I did not seem to have any problems.

Horrible experience in picking up my car from Ente
Pros: They told me they didn't have a car for me when I showed up to pick it up at 2:15pm on Sunday. Told me they may not be able to get me a car by the time they closed (3pm on Sunday), because they ran out of cars as a result of people not returning them when they were supposed to.. They told me to call another location in the city to see if they had one. I asked them to do this for me, and they wouldn't. When I did, the other city location did not have cars to rent either. There were 10 other people experiencing the same problem. At 3pm, they told us all to get into one of their vans and that they would transport us 30 minutes away to another location that had cars. When I got there, they provided me with a Hyundai Veloster, which is a compact car even though my reservation had it confirmed with an intermediate car. Moreover, this car was very dangerous to drive as a result of its extremely limited visibility in the rear and the sides. Not only did I had to drive my car 30 minutes out of the way as a result of this inconvenience, but I also used my gas to do so. Never had an experience like this before and I have been renting cars for more than 35 years. Very unprofessional.

Easy rental, great customer service
Pros: I like that Alamo does not hassle me about insurance and upgrades. I've been harassed and insulted by other car rental companies at Austin-Bergstrom about upgrades, so it's really nice that when I say "no thank you", the person at the Alamo counter says "no problem!", and that's the end of it and I'm on my way with the car. This fact alone keeps me going back to Alamo.
The car itself was in great condition and I had no problems with it.

Inefficient drop off process
Pros: The representatives checking me in to pick up the car were great. Friendly and professional staff.
Cons: To start with, I was given a small smart car that is not made for the rain. Unfortunately, whenever 18 wheelers passed me on the highway the car shook violently. The worst part is when I returned the car no attendant was there, so I filled out the slip as instructed with the date and time 11:06pm. A week later I checked my credit card and the charge was for two days instead of one. Even though there was no attendant, they claimed my car was turned in late at 4am. I was 30 minutes trying to resolve this. Unacceptable.

Poor customer service
Pros: Budget is located on-airport in Austin. it's still a bit of a walk for sure but it beats a shuttle bus to a remote location
Cons: Counter agent was awful from the get-go. Not sure what was angering her in life but she made a point of taking it out on me. Four of us traveling for a funeral - I reserved a Ford Fusion sedan car or similar. No sedans left so she told me my "similar" options were a truck or mini van since they are" similar". I disagreed that a truck or cargo van aren't similar to a sedan car, which only turned her cold attitude into lousy. When I asked more info about the mini van it turns out to be a 12 passenger CARGO VAN. Not doubt in my mind whatsoever that she purposely misrepresented it as a "mini van" in the hopes I would just taken it and leave. I told her no on the truck or cargo van. So she said I could get a Ford Excursion SUV but she would NOT wave or reduce the $50 upgrade fee. It's evident that woman should not be in a customer-facing role. Not one ounce of politeness and she was manipulative. she could not have cared any less about making sure I was a satisfied customer.

Impossible to extend
Pros: There is no way to extent the contract and stay with the car an extra day. When I contacted a Budget agent she told me I would have to call the actual branch I rented from, and when I called that local number it redirected me to the national number again.
I just stayed with the car one more day and I will figure it out when I get back, or let them call me wondering where is the car.

Unbelievable lack of professionalism
Cons: Everything! 1) branch at airport does not communicate with the call center and vice versa. 2) call center apparently can't contact branch directly to verify actual car availability. 3) took our reservation but didn't have cars available since the day before. 4) no support at all, it felt like I was talking to a bunch of kids that didn't know what they were doing!
Taking budget of any future rental options
Pros: The friendliness and repectful demeanour of all staff I had contact with as well as the pricing for the vehicle.
Cons: They didn't have the car I reserved. Instead of upgradi MG me they sold me an upgrade that did not meet my passenger's needs. Although they did givr me another car after I complained about the size, it ended up being a huge suv. After returning the car I was called about an owed balance. The agent calling had no informatuon as to why I owed but still tried to get my permission while unforming me I could call customer service if I had any questions about their blunder. After declining her request to charge me ahe had a manager call who did resolve the issue but has yet to send me an e receipt for the numerous chargea and refunds that she had explained to me during our call. It's been over 7 business days.

Cons: I had reserved a ford Mustang Convertible for an entire week for use during a wedding. When I arrived at the counter, they did not have the reserved car due to "mechanical issues". On top of that, they did not have any other vehicles of the same type. They tried to offer me a 4-door sedan, but there was a very particular reason I had reserved the convertible. I was forced to walk down to a competitor's kiosk to rent the same car. I find this very unprofessional and I do not recommend FOX in any way shape for form to anyone visiting the Austin area.

Cons: The outside off the car was cleaned but I didn't notice till I drove away that the inside of the car was dirty. It seems like the previous renter spilled coffee and it wasn't cleaned up at all.
In addition, I dropped off the car in the morning and there was no room to enter the Thrifty drop off rental. There were about 15 returned cars parked all the way up to the entrance. The reason why is because there was no one working there at that time (5 to 6am), this delayed a few of us who were dropping off at that time. There is a poster that asks renters to write down mileage and gas and to leave the key and jacket in the dropbox WHICH was broken. Very inefficient and insecure system.

Cons: Kayak quoted me at $78 and change and when I got to thrifty I ended up paying $150 and change. So disappointed. Thrity has no info from the third party I went through on Kayak. So many more hidden fees. Kayak or its third party and Thrify need to communicate. I won't be using this car service in the future.

Cons: The price! The estimate on Kayak was $61. My actual price was over $150. I was tricked by Kaual to think this was the actual.
I will not use Kayak again nor would I ever recommend them.
Kayak uses deceptive pricing to hook a customer then the merchant, in this case Thrifty, claims they cannot live up to Kayak's pricing.
I was tricked once - it won't happen again!

Liked that it was on-site at the airport and did not have an off-site location. Car rental facility was beautiful.
Cons: Car interior was very stained, but that is o.k. just sad that people when they rent to not take better car of the fabric. My only real complaint was the $20.00 toll road charge add-on. I did not see that information anywhere when making the booking. I told the women at counter I would be only on 71 W and E and 183 N and South only as far as the arboretum area of AUS. She said 183 was a toll and I would have to pay the $20. In fact, I learned from residents of AUS that I was Not ever on a toll area of 183. So felt that was not a legitimate charge.
Cons: Company included a daily roadside assistance charge on the bill without giving a chance to decline, and the displayed rate on Kayak did not include a *mandatory* airport fee. Wouldn't rent with them again.

You Should Consider Something Other Than DOLLAR Re
Pros: The auto was a 2015 Toyota Corolla. Nice car, comfortable interior, fair mileage.
Cons: Dollar service representative totally misrepresented the tollway charges to us by telling us there was a $45 tollway charge if we didn't purchase the Dollar rental tollway service (~$32) from Dollar rental because you couldn't pay cash on tollways. Found out after we got on the tollways that we could pay by mail.
Was shocked that a quoted $76 rental turned into a $175 rental when we received our invoice! More than double the quoted price with taxes, fees, unwarranted tollway charges, and additional driver costs!
Will be going back to Hertz since they are at least up-front with charges...

Last Minute Deal with Great Satisfaction
Pros: I had a last minute transportation emergency and needed a rental. I scoured online and found a great deal on Kayak.com. I placed my reservation 10 hours before the reservation time. Their free cancellation and inexpensive cost bought me in. I received a Black Corolla, the latest model and was surprised to find a full tank of gas awaiting me. The ride was smooth and insured (Allianz). Dollar Rental Car took care of all my transportation needs and saved me a huge bill if I had taken a rideshare service.

Cons: I did not even get to rent from Dollar because they only had one desk agent at rental counter and line was so long I went to competitor next door. There was 5 people ahead of me in line. After waiting about 20 minutes, the line was not moving so I walked over to Avis and the had same rate and no line so I rented there. Can't understand whar Dollar is thinking having one agent at busiest time of year (Xmas).

I was bill for an extra day when I was 10 minutes early but the Avis rep fixed it and was not charged. Only complaint was it took 20 minutes to get fixed when there was no error my part

Pros: The car was decent, it ran. The line at the pick-up location was not long.
Cons: The agents at drop-off were too busy chatting with each other to check my car back in, it ended up getting checked in 6 hours later when I called them to make sure they checked it in. They added the fuel service option automatically, even though I rejected it when I picked up the car, the car was driven more than 75 miles, and I filled up the tank. This company is just a total scam.
Three calls later and I've managed to get the charges fixed, back to the original amount. What a giant waste of time.

Cons: We were scheduled to pick up car at 7 pm. Arrived a few minutes early and waited in line until after 8 pm to pick up car. Avis had two employees actually working, and a row of about 10 work stations with no employee to work there. Poor staffing levels set us back an hour and ruined the first night of our trip.

Cons: I reserved a car online to drive to Lubbock after learning my father had passed away. I live and work downtown Austin, so I do not own a vehicle. I had a friend drop me off at 11 pm; I planned to drive all night to get to my mother as soon as possible. I waited for 30 minutes for a representative to come to the desk. Then they did not have a car for me after I reserved online. The woman was rude and snippy. All the other car rentals were booked as well. I was stranded at the airport with my suitcases. Worst experience with car rental (or lack thereof) ever.
