Overview

Perched on a hill on the edge of St. Peter Port, Guernsey, the Hotel De Havelet fills an attractive Georgian house with a sheltered garden and flower-filled terraces. An easy downhill walk leads into town, close to the harbour yet a world away from the bustle, the Georgian house keeping a calm, settled air above the water. Restaurants look out over the harbour to Castle Cornet and the neighbouring islands, and a heated pool with French windows onto the patio sits alongside a sauna, a steam room, and a hot tub for slow afternoons. The south-coast cliff paths begin five minutes away, Hauteville House, Victor Hugo's home in exile, stands nearby, and the ferry terminals link to Portsmouth, the French ports, and neighbouring Jersey. Walk the south-coast cliff path to a hidden cove at low tide, then time the harbour for the firing of the noonday gun at Castle Cornet. Book your stay at the Best Western Hotel De Havelet and let Guernsey's coast and islands draw you out.

Pros (+) This is a lovely hotel and the staff were attentive and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and we loved the little enclosed balcony overlooking the inner courtyard. The indoor swimming pool was an added bonus and the gardens were delightful. We had one evening meal in the Wellington Restaurant and the food was delicious. Similarly the breakfasts were substantial and catered for all t...
Cons (-) The only little niggle was the piped music in the retaurant. I don't mind music when I'm dining but this was a bit like 60's lift music - very jarring and once you've noticed it, hard to ignore.
