6.3 Good
Pros: High quality matrasses though! Friendly staff and late bar opening times
Cons: Rooms were stuffy, might be the carpet. We prefer a queen of king bed instead of the Individual beds, with single linnen they provided as being a superior with king size bed.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Somewhat expensive property compared to others in the 5 mile radius. Asked for new sheets after a week which was never done. Construction noise and average room cleaning.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: great location, comfortable, modern, clean.
Cons: Hotel charged me an extra night because I used the hotel phone to call a friend 30 minutes away in Den Haag (The Hague). Be careful! DON'T under ANY circumstances use the room phone.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Well placed hotel if travelling by car with plenty parking and choose of bistro or restaurant. Excellent choice at breakfast.
Cons: Access from car park to rooms could be made easier to avoid a long trek round. There were doors but some emergency access only and som just locked. The tea and coffee in the room was a bit mean, only enough for one drink and even when asking for extra at reception we only got one more sachet.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was great, and I especially enjoyed the jacuzzi. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Cons: I booked a room without breakfast, and I think I received at least five reminders about that and whether I would like to reconsider that obviously incorrect decision -- several between booking and my arrival, and then one more a few days before my arrival wrapped in an email with subject IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR STAY. And then yet again when checking in. Dear Van der Valk hotel, no means no, okay? Not very "chique". But this is really the only downside I have experienced, everything else was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb location with Restaurant / Breakfast area overlooking canal. Spacious room. Quality food. Breakfast comprised a very wide ranging selection of all elements.
Cons: The fact that we were only there for 3 nights.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was amazing, I loved having the hot tub in my room and the separate shower. I was able to watch TV whilst using it. I also had a balcony, but I didn’t go outside as it was too cold.
Cons: The info card in my room said breakfast was until 11 but it actually finished at 10:30 which is when I went down so I missed out even though I already paid :(
7.1 Good
Pros: neat, nice and quiet
Cons: one particular front desk staff....really have manner issue to work in a service and hospitality business. she is the one who checked us in and bumped into her fee times during our 7 night stay. Rest of the staff are lovely.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, just off the A4 and less than 10 minutes drive to the city centre. Shopping mall within short walk. Good choice of walks/runs along the canals. Comfortable rooms, with everything you might need. Welcoming and friendly staff - we loved the made-to-order omelettes at breakfast. We had dinner at the hotel one evening - well cooked and enjoyed by all of us.
Cons: No issues
7.0 Good
Pros: The bed is really so good And it was so quiet to sleep
Cons: There were some spider nets on the ceiling corners And the espresso machine in the room was not working
4.6 Okay
Pros: The staff is ok
Cons: Very small no services
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, clean room, smoking lounge, everything as advertised :)
Cons: No shops in walking distance.
7.5 Good
Pros: I mainly chose this hotel because its location was convenient to a friend's house just across the canal. The rooms were basic but clean and the beds were comfortable. The free parking was convenient. The Nespresso machine in the room was a nice touch.
Cons: The hotel seems to exist in this location to support club sports teams that compete at the sports facilities just next door -- otherwise I can't see how the location makes sense (though it was very convenient for our purposes). The building's decor is a bit generic and to be honest, it reminded me of photos I once saw of a Norwegian prison cell -- very nice for a prison but for a hotel it's basic and lacking in charm or character. If you're not on an ultra tight budget and you're visiting Leiden as a tourist you'll probably want to stay closer to the city center.
7.0 Good
Pros: Clean sheets, coffee maker in the room.
Cons: Bed too soft for me.
6.0 Good
Pros: Good WiFi
Cons: Toilet was smelly Our room was next to the utilityroom. So noise from the moment the cleaning started. Very busy road.

7.5 Good (2,124 reviews)
₹ 8,529+
Overview Reviews
The Best Western City Hotel Leiden is located in Leiden's city of discovery, and lies in the heart of this historical city, within walking distance of many shopping streets and museums, including Museum de Lakenhal, where masterpieces by Rembrandt, Jan Steen and Lucas van Leyden can be admired. The Best Western City Hotel Leiden combines traditional and contemporary influences and offers you a pleasant stay. The hotel is located in three monumental historic buildings that were fully renovated. Our 3 Star hotel offers 39 rooms, which are spread over four floors. Each hotel room is decorated in a different style. The rooms are comfortable and feature modern furnishings, a double or twin bed, a safe, telephone, television and radio, as well as a bathroom with shower and toilet. Our Junior Suites are spacious and have a cozy sitting area. Leiden has a rich history and is known for its beautiful canals, historic buildings and culture. The city is also called the City of Knowledge, as it is famous for its science and research. The University of Leiden is the oldest university in Holland, it was founded in 1575. Leiden is also called the 'City of Discovery'. It is the place where Rembrandt was born and learned to paint, where Doctor Boerhaave taught, and where the first Dutch tulips were brought into blossom, about four hundred years ago. Leiden is a wonderful city to explore for leisure travelers, but business guests are also very welcome at our hotel. It has very convenient conference facilities, such as a multifunctional conference room with all amenities. Our staff will be happy to answer all your questions regarding meetings and conferences.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beds very comfortable. Walking distance to everything but also quiet so slept well. Staff were warm and friendly
8.0 Excellent
Pros: People at the reception ware nice. Furniture is good.
Cons: No shower curtain.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is very good and central . Reception staff was nice.
Cons: Since it’s an old building Convert it to a hotel the rooms are kind of funny shaped/located. Our room headache support pole right in front of the door And one right next to the bed. Also the bed The hotel should really do something about that and install a fitting headboard. The shower was nice however while showering the whole floor got wet/flooded. A half (flip-flop type) shower door or curtain would be appreciated . There was a glitch in the booking (either with booking. Com or hotel??) that indicated that there was only 1 person/ breakfast whereas I had booked for 2 with breakfast for day2 of stay. Day 1 we were not booked with breakfast. Somehow a breakfast was listed a breakfast for day 1, when we did NOT have breakfast at the hotel. (We ran out day 1 and grabbed a Dunkin donuts which is down the road. Reception staff kindly adjusted this.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly. Housekeeping very good
Cons: Lighting in room atrocious No power outlet at bedside Bathroom - no mirror light, no shelf for cosmetics etc., fixed shower head. A hook or two to hang something would be helpful. Breakfast is overpriced considering the many excellent cafes nearby that serve a great breakfast for under €10
7.0 Good
Pros: Weird but not bad
Cons: Rooms Spartan , uncomfortable in contrast to the luxurious bathroom with jacuzzi and shower . And it was cold
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Quiet despite being centrally located in a student town.
Cons: It’s a little worn out and basic rooms are sparsely furnished. But the beds are fine and breakfast is great.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Friendly staff. Good location.
Cons: Smell in bathroom due to lack of decent ventilation and build up of water during shower. No shower door means half of bathroom floor gets wet. Need to hold button to flush toilet properly. Found urine and tissue in bathroom upon arrival. Bedroom floor had stain in middle of floor (bad paint job). Bed pillow arranged as if someone took a nap. No fridge. No robes. No bottled water. Blurry tv without HD channels. Window didn't close properly so had some noise early in the night.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The location was good
Cons: This hotel is very worn down, and it looks like nothing has been changed or updated since about the 60s. The room looked old and tired, the bed was uncomfortable with pillows in which the cotton was completely clumped together, and the shower was awful. Some of the sockets weren’t working and the wardrobe was about to fall apart. I wasn’t expecting a luxury hotel but given the price it should at least be comfortable.

Cons: As its an old building the stairs are bit narrow, but i feel its okay to manage. Front desk is not 24hrs so plan your check-inn accordingly, staff is helpful so i feel that too will not be a problem if they are well informed to needful arrangements can be made
9.0 Excellent
Pros: excellent location as close to city centre and railway station, nice building and room furniture, good value for price
7.0 Good
Pros: Spacious clean well equipped room. (No 23 on the top floor.)
Cons: The narrow and steep stairs were a challenge. I'm glad we didn't bring larger suitcases!
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: There is nothing positive of note to mention. I wouldnt recommend anyone stay here.
Cons: Broken toilet, mouldy walls, rude and indifferent staff, unreachable line (if you call the front desk you get a taxi service who takes a message and brings it to staff who roundly ignore it), broken refrigerator, unclean smell, unfair room assignment, cleaning staff leaves garbage and supplies all over the stairs making it harder to navigate safely, especially with baggage. I could go on.
6.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is located right in the Centre, just a very short walk from the central station.
Cons: There was hardly any water pressure in the shower and the shower water was cold, not very pleasant in winter. The bed sheets didn't smell freshly washed and from the way the bed was made we weren't sure if the sheets were changed after the visitors before us...
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The drawer was broken and shakey but everything else was good

Pros: Pleasant hotel very close to the centre of Leiden. The room was very clean and had a lot of character
Cons: It was very windy during our stay and the windows rattled a lot. The heating was also turned down too low but we were able to adjust it ourselves.
7.1 Good
Cons: Ridicoulus 35€ charge because we arrived later than expected (23:00). Our disbelieve was met with total ignorance at every entounter with hotel personnel. You shouldnt book this place if you are used to a normal hotel service level. Also we didnt have night stands next to our bed or hangers to hang cloths in the room. Felt a bit unprofessional. Overall good quality interior and location.

Pros: On this occasion staying solo - room is bijoux - small but comfortable and typical of properties in Leiden - therefore feels appropriate. This is a small boutique hotel which reflects the area not business type hotel.

Pros: helpful and friendly staff
Cons: No breakfast room. Bedroom too cramped for eating in comfort. Would not consider this a 4 star hotel rating
5.2 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was a hamper of food and sufficient for a packed lunch as well. The Keukenhof package was very good.
Cons: We thought it a bit mean spirited to charge for milk to be put into the tea if taken in the English Style, and for the milk to be charged at minibar high price. The room was small but the facilities were good.

Pros: It was a small quite hotel and private.
Cons: The price was fairly high for what you get and for a 4 star hotel it was not as comfortable as some others. The hotel is not in the center, but on the other side of the station from the city center.

Pros: Great bathroom
Cons: Room was very dark and bed not particularly comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great as it was right near to the train/bus station but close enough to Leiden to enjoy visiting the town. The bathroom was large and the room was comfortable, it's nice to have room light switches by the bed so I wasn't fumbling in the dark to get into bed every evening.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast, very near to train station and a good price
Cons: There wasn't really anything to dislike about this hotel

8.0 Excellent
7.0 Good
Pros: On this occasion staying solo - room is bijoux - small but comfortable and typical of properties in Leiden - therefore feels appropriate. This is a small boutique hotel which reflects the area not business type hotel.
Cons: Need more shelving in bathroom to put things on . Bedroom nice and warm, ground floor of bed 3 is a little cold on the floor.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, setting, decor and design. Really helpful staff . Loved the 2 story room. Quiet comfortable Used the little spa on first day. Garage facilities which are essential in the town if travelling by car
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: good breakfast.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location was just fantastic, right in the centre of the city. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice, cooked for you every day with a large selection of food also available in a cold buffet. I have coeliac's disease and I was so well catered for.
Cons: Breakfast should have been included in the price. The shower in the attic room was not very powerful.

6.2 Good
Pros: good location and attached to a 4-star hotel
Cons: This was advertised as the 4-star Golden tulip Inn but was actually a room in the attached 3-star tulip Inn. The Tulip Inn had very few amenities and was a very basic room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to train station, best option to move around in train
7.0 Good
Pros: Spacious room (executive) nice and quiet. Near station, bars and restaurants. Good parking facilities
Cons: Staff indifférent during all interactions. Were there when Covid shut down bars and restaurants and they offered no help and gave mixed messages to cutomers
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Large room, clean, newly furnished and well maintained. All facilities, including a fridge and a tea kettle. Internet worked OK. Very close to Leiden train station. Room was quiet at night.
Cons: Not much to complain about. The room didn't have much of a view (first floor facing the street), but that can be expected in the city center. Too expensive breakfast.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Close to train station
Cons: I think €16.50 for breakfast is far far too expensive for what you get very disappointed by this
7.0 Good
Cons: Room was much too small for 3 people. We had to get a second room. So I paod for a room for three and also a room for one. I feel I should receive since only two people used the room for 3.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, very peaceful, very clean, great breakfast, very accommodating staff, late breakfast, 12 noon check-out, environmentally conscious, great selection of TV channels
Cons: No dislikes
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The bed was nice, but too small
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, comfortable bed, excellent location right by the station. The breakfast was really good and the lounge/bar area was a nice space to sit.
Cons: The rooms were clean but quite basic. There was no kettle in the room and I would've preferred to have an iron in the room rather than having to go to reception to ask for one.

5.4 Okay
Pros: The location was good..warm welcome bij staff
Cons: The bathrooms were not clean, handsoap and shower gel was finished..we called twice to get it..curtains was dirty..lots of hairs in bedroom and shower
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The hotel has a gym and a small pool, the saune was not turned on.
Cons: The entire hotel seems to be designed for late 1990 american industrial hotels. Everything is big and too much. the bed sheets had holes in them, the shower was not clean, the glasses where broken and the entire place looks like a public bus. Plus the staff at the restaurant where clearly under trained... For the price you pay this is not acceptable.
6.5 Good
Pros: It is perfect when you wanna visit museums with kids. This hotel has good facilities for them. There is a pools, buffet is good.
Cons: The windows cannot be opened. So the rooms where too hot
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good for kids. Nice breakfast buffet en also very nice evening buffet. Good swimming pool.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great that children eat free, and buffet food is quite good. The play area is good and also the swimming pool. The place was not crowded so noise levels were really low, but can imagine this being quite different in high season.
Cons: The food from the menu is pricey and not very good. Also breakfast is quite expensive but actually very good (we only went once). Since the hotel is in the middle of nowhere with lot's of parking space this should be included in the price.
