Very frustrating experience. I’m a local resident who needed a rental car for a few days. After arriving, I was told that Routes would not rent to me without a flight itinerary. If that’s their policy, it should be made much more clear during the booking process. I saw nothing that made it obvious that local renters would be turned away. What made the experience worse was the attitude of the staff. Rather than trying to help or explain the policy professionally, they came across as rude and dismissive. After wasting time and making the trip to their location, I ended up going to NextCar down the street. The staff there were friendly, helpful, and had me on the road quickly. If you’re a local renter, make sure you understand Routes’ restrictions before booking. I won’t be using them again.Reviewed 19 Jun 2026

The shuttle was easy, nice and clean. The drivers were very nice and helpful. Once we got to the rental place, we all stood in line for over an hour while 1 person took care of all of us. The guy was borderline rude and the whole process of renting was painfully slow. Also, hidden fees! If you leave the state of Illinois, you pay an extra $30 a day! Ridiculous.Reviewed 1 Jun 2026

Unable to get anyone to answer the phone after we rented our vehicle. Unable to connect with Routes to get the shuttle to pick us up to take us to the car rental site, thus we were unable to rent our vehicle. We called to cancel our rental and attempted to cancel through Kayak as well as through Routes' website and weren't able to cancel it either. Poor customer service.Reviewed 11 Jul 2025
