Friendly waitress in restaurant. Room had seaview
One of the worst hotels ever experienced ! Stinking bathroom drains, horrendous bed cover making place look like doss house. Wall above bed decorated with photo of priest (could be put to great use by Private Eye magazine for a feature on sex perverts). The place was old and worn out, damp and gloomy.Walls cracking quite clearly, especially from our (shared)terrace. Worst of all the hotel beach was not included in the price...we were told to swim off the rocks below hotel if we wanted free access to sea. With the stink of sewage in the room it was off-putting to even think about swimming below the hotel. The smell was even worse in the morning and it was like entering a room where someone had a very bad "holiday tummy" Hotel was situated on extremely busy and dangerous road with no other way to escape and explore the area.As parking was very limited,(we got last place on arrival at 4.30pm),we could not consider going back out in car.The hotel had its own(expensive) restaurant in same ancient style...one of the senior staff seemed unhappy that we were only ordering a fish course plus separate portions of vegetables, which were miniscule but very expensive. The bread was dry and looked like it had witnessed several weeks.Breakfast was obviously done on the cheap: "nectar" style juice ie. sugar and water with a hint of fruit, warmed-up cheap croissant and "ofF" butter. The hundreds of mini portions of jam reminded me of travels in Romania thirty years ago when jam was all they had in the shops. Breakfast was included in the rate paid via on-line booking, however this place was well over-priced. Should not have cost more than 50 euros. Another thing to note is that the receptionist wanted both passports to keep at the desk. I was very unhappy about this. As it happened mine was not available on arrival, and I quietly forgot to leave the room and take it to the girl. It is one thing to look and copy the passport number, but quite another to keep it on an open shelf. The girl showed us our room and left the front desk unattended: thus leaving numerous very valuable eu passports open to anyone to sell on the black market. This establishment should be taken to task by the hotel authorities for continuing this out-dated practice. They seemed to be completely oblivious to the risk in holding passports in such a manner. Also note that this was the only hotel to take the full payment several weeks before we arrived...therefore they could hardly argue that they wanted it in case you escaped and didn't pay for the room when you realised what a horrendous dump it was. Location was also noisy due to a railway line , next to the busy road. Trains went by every few minutes and continued through the night.Would rate it zero out of ten, including allowance of three points for friendly staff.
The location on that fabulous bay and the sea view bedroom and balcony is second to none. I would definitely return, as long as I could have one of those rooms. Dinner was excellant. Parking was great and free.
This hotel locates in a very beautiful place and has such a nice view from the terrace or balcony. It was so nice to fall a sleep listening the sounds of the sea. There is a russian speaking girl at the reception.
We had a very small quite simple room and bathroom, and very poor breakfast. It seems to us that the price is quite high for such hotel, but the view was really perfect!
Nice location. Very close to the beach and not far away from town. Great view from the room. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Excellent coffee! A very cosy hotel. Castiglioncello is a beautiful place and we are definitely going back sometime.
Got the impression that all rooms had a balcony. That is not the case. Nice food in the restaurant but the the dining area was old and not very pleasant.
Beautiful location which was not not over developed. Castigleoncello is an upmarket Italian resort set amongst a pine tree forest, and offers everything you could wish for. The view from the room's balcony across the bay was to die for. The staff were very friendly
It is only a minor point but the decor and furnishings within the room was dated and and the room itself was small
Awesome location great staff
They should have an area open to residents where one can take a drink of an evening. The decor is tired.
Excellant restaurant, easy acces to private beach lovely sea views pleasant staff
Closeness to the sea
Excellent restaurant menu for dinner, sea views made it worth the price.
Limited parking near hotel
wonderful view over the sea! small, but clean rooms
distance to the train station (2 km). If you do not have rented a car you have to walk the distance with your luggage as there is no public transport or taxi available
