"You have already driven the car. How can I give you a refund?"Cons:The air bag was not functioning in the car that I rented. (The air bag light was glowing and, according to the manual, this means the air bag was not functioning.) When I called Hertz (having already driven a few miles), I was told I must rent a different car at a location 44 miles away (through Philadelphia traffic), since the 1st location was about to close. Two hours later as I drove the 2nd car away from the 2nd location, I realized the air bag light was on in THIS car too. This was actually a good thing, because when I returned I realized that the Hertz employee had not actually given me the key -- he had merely turned the ignition on. Since my wife and I had to drive home (44 miles again) in order to return my own car before beginning our trip, about 3 and a half hours passed between when we were supposed to leave on our trip and when we were actually able to leave. We had wanted to get a few hours of driving in that evening, since we had 700 miles to travel and didn't want to do it all in one day. But by now it was 9:00, we were exhausted, and we decided to wait until the next morning before starting our trip. This meant that -- rather than having time to visit with my family the next evening -- we spent the entire day driving and arrived at our destination late in the evening. When I had asked the man at the rental office for a discount, he told me I should call Customer Service. When I called Customer Service today and explained everything, they told me they could not give me a refund or even a discount because the car had been "prepaid."
