Overview of Hainan Airlines

Offering a broad range of both domestic Chinese services and international flights, Hainan Airlines has become a major member of the Asian aviation industry. Despite having headquarters in Haikou on the Hainan Island, the carrier operates the majority of its international services out of Beijing. Additional hubs are positioned in 5 other locations across China: Guangzhou, Sanya, Xi’an, Shenzhen and Hangzhou.

Hainan Airlines has a large network of flights throughout Asia as well as connections to Europe, Oceania and North America. Scheduled services are run to at least 30 countries across the globe, which include the United States, Canada, Australia and Mexico. It became the first airline to offer a direct service between Boston and China in 2014. Codeshare agreements with carriers, such as WestJet, Alaska Airlines and American Airlines, spread its reach across North America.

A combination of Airbus and Boeing aircraft are chosen to facilitate Hainan Airlines routes. The Boeing 737-800 model is one of the most commonly flown, capable of carrying approximately 164 passengers. Larger aircraft like the Boeing 787-9 are used for transcontinental trips. The livery of the fleet features a white fuselage and red tail decorated with yellow wings of the mythical Garuda bird.

Economy passengers are provided with padded headrests and waist pillows to make the journey comfortable. Upgrading to Premium Economy provides a more private setting and access to the Business Class lavatories. Seats recline to a flatbed in Business Class, while walnut wood details deliver a luxurious feel. A designer Bvlgari amenity kit is provided as well as BOSE noise-cancelling headphones.
