Driving in Tenerife is not too different from driving around in your hometown in the UK. All cars in Tenerife feature a right-hand side driving wheel and a speedometer in kilometres per hour. Speed limits on motorways tend to average around 120 kph (74 mph), whereas a single carriageway road is around 100 kph (60 mph), or 50 kph (30 mph) in urban areas. There is also a number of parking regulations that drivers have to follow. Parking is free in parking spaces marked with white lines. However, parking is forbidden between yellow lines and parking can vary on spots marked with blue lines.

The age restriction for car hire in Tenerife changes depending on the car hire company you use. Whilst most companies request that a driver is aged at least 21 years old, there are car hire agencies that are willing to allow people aged 18+ to hire their vehicles. This is subject to conditions and could mean that you will also have to pay a young driver car hire fee. A driver must also have a full and clean driving licence that has been valid for at least 12 months.
