Be aware it is in the airport and you need to go to the 3rd floor to get to your rental. A bigger deal if you have items to put in your rental. After drop off I was picked up by my spouse in the departing flights area. You just need to have a plan since you may not be dropped off or picked up right at the rental car location.

Do not rent a large car unless you are sure you truly need it. Streets are so narrow and so much road work being done in San Antonio at the moment. It was a little stressful navigating the city.

Verified travelerJun 2024

The signs in the terminal could be clearer regarding where the rental car center is located. It directs you to take an escalator downstairs one level below baggage claim, but then the signs only say “parking garage”. You have to take the parking garage elevator up to the third floor and then cross a sky bridge to the Rental Car Center.

RebeccaAug 2024

I got a compact because it was just me and I wasn't going out of the city. There us alot of traffic on the interstate, so I tend to stick to the frontage roads and they were pretty clear.

JessieApr 2024

There’s lots of U-turns and parts of the highway that split off in 3 different directions at once in San Antonio. Always best to know and look for where you are going because sometimes the GPS isn’t clear when and where it may want you to be.

Travelers with flights to San Antonio will be happy to hear that San Antonio Airport’s rental car center is a quick and easy reach from the Arrivals Terminal. The rental car center is found across from Terminal B through the Sky Bridge.
San Antonio is undoubtedly a car city so, if you want to make the most out of your time there, it is best to have a car at your disposal. For example, if you plan on catching a Spurs game live at the AT&T Center, you could spend 30 minutes on public transport getting there from downtown or you could drive there in 15 minutes. Chances are your hotel will not be directly downtown, so if you plan on visiting the River Walk or the Alamo, you will probably need a car to get to them.
Visitors to San Antonio will be happy to hear that rush hour is not nearly as severe as it is in Dallas or Houston. In general, the morning rush hour is from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., while the afternoon/evening rush hour goes from around 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The main areas to avoid during rush hour are the central parts of the old downtown and I-37 on the way into town in the morning.
One of the main struggles new drivers have in San Antonio is navigating the city’s wheel-and-spoke highway system, in which the city’s major roads and highways merge. What drivers will find is that, as the various highways come in closer to the city, they will merge onto the same highway. This can be quite confusing to drivers, but it is easy enough to navigate if you pay close attention and keep your eyes open.

This was a TERRIBLE experience. I was charged for insurance even though I specified NUMEROUS times that I had my own. Even on the receipt that they sent me there is no signature from me yet they charged and proceeded to argue with me. The person giving me the car was incredibly rude and threatened to charge me $400 in cleaning fees if any mud was present on the vehicle (it was rainy and muddy). I will NEVER rent with this company ever again.

I did not like all the hidden fees they added after I had paid a non refundable total online. It did give a heads up that added fees may be applied but the end charge was double what I had originally paid. They also attempted to put a 800$ hold on my credit card but eventually approved me to just hold 500$. Overall the experience was good, they were fast and I had a clean car with an easy pick up and drop off I just was not expecting that high of an upcharge. I picked them because they were a little less expensive than enterprise but in the end I would have ended up paying less if I had gone with them instead.

When I picked up my rental they told me I'd rented an electric car...nowhere in any selection or rental agreement did it say anything about electric. My destination was in an apartment parking garage and I'd have no access to a charger so I told them electric wouldn't work. They said my only option was to upgrade for an additional $120. They gave me a Jeep Compass that was filthy on the outside. Poor experience all around.

Kayak and third party sites suck as well. All of you are renting vehicles not available and not accurate. It adds to the stress of rental company employees and the customers. You are either incompetent or part of the problem

We got to pick up station, and a few more folks showed up to help as there was only 1 person there when we arrived. We reserved small SUV but were told ALL the suv's were gone, but could choose from any car there. That left us with 1 dirty and 3 clean Nissan Sentras, a BMW sedan or a Mecedes sedan to choose from. We chose a clean Sentra, which is a long way from an SUV. Car was clean and good mpg, no way was I taking one of the German rides.

Good car, although it has several dings and scratches. I spent almost hour and a half to get it, there were three reps at the site but took so long to take care of each of the customers.

Economy

The person needing us in San Antonio was excellent service and I'm grateful that they added me as a secondary driver without charging you more because that's how it should be. It actually makes it safer for the company to not charge extra for a secondary driver because when the primary driver is tired instead of worrying about how much more it was going to cost to have a secondary driver it was automatically assumed that I would be the secondary driver at no extra cost and my husband and I took turns all the time to keep us both safe. I think it's foolish to charge for a secondary driver because it discourages people who are trying to cut costs and they may not want to pay for a secondary driver which is not safe. And the car was very clean when we picked it up and I tried very hard to make sure it was very clean when we dropped it off.

I liked that they were open at one in the morning. I HATED that they basically forced me to take an electric car. The man at the counter said I was lucky AVIS would rent to me at one in the morning and I could take it or leave it. I did NOT reserve electric. I was told I needed to return it fully charged or pay $35 penalty - where on earth was I supposed to do that with a flight the next day early? Terrible, terrible experience.

The man that checked us in at the airport was very friendly and quick. The price was cheaper than the other rental places for a 7 passenger vehicle. However, after drop off there was $17ish dollars added to the total which I am unsure what for as we had filled up the gas completely right before returning and we were before the drop off time.

I purchased a premium rental car service from Budget through Kayak. When I arrived at my pick up location, my vehicle was not even on the property. When asked about an ETA I was not given one. I needed a vehicle immediately and the only solution was to use a vehicle that was just dropped off after I was at check in. Luckily the lady working was nice and cleaned the vehicle for me in a very short amount of time. It was not a premium vehicle like i requested and made me have to rearrange my travel plans due to the hour plus long delay. I was not happy.

Pricy for a smallish suv. Agent in San Antonio told me I wouldn’t be charged for returning the car later than expected because it was less than one day rental but my receipt showed that Budget charged me a $20 late fee. I wasn’t happy about that.

I had a confirmed reservation for a vehicle. The DAY before my trip Budget called me to tell me that they gave away my car and no longer had a vehicle for me. The Budget representative stated that this had happened to several customers. I didn't prepay when I made the reservation so they gave the car away. He offered to move my reservation to a different location. I specifically asked if everything would stay the same with my reservation, and stated to him, "price, date, size of vehicle" and he said "Yes". When I got to Budget they would not honor the reserved price and I had to pay almost $100 extra. HORRIBLE customer service and completely disregarding a confirmed reservation, essentially not honoring their contract.

My flight was delayed, I got to the booth as the employees shut down their computer and refused to help me. I had to go rent with a different company. I haven’t even started to investigate if I was charged for the rental or not. I’m sure that will be the next battle.

I inputted the time that I was arriving, but the reservation didn't take. Reservation showed 2 hours after my flight landed. Had to pay an additional $60 or wait 2 hours. (Seemed like a scam to get me to pay more money.) Attendant found minor less than .25" scratch on the vehicle. He also stated that there was a dent on the vehicle when there wasn't.

Everything was great until I had to go back to my home state. Unfortunately my car got towed and it took them a week to get it back and it made me feel like they sat back and didn't rush knowing I wasn't there up their butt's to get it back and was able to charge me those extra days.

I liked the car. I did not like being charged $62 for supplemental insurance that I declined when I rented the car. I called and asked for a copy of my receipt (which the lady at the counter did not provide) and someone had forged my initials.

Problem is priceline.. If you make booking, don't expect to get car you requested. They will always upcharge.

I prepaid but was forced to buy standard liability insurance despite me telling them I have my own insurance and declining it. The lady said it is mandatory in Texas. Came to know that was a lie. Also I booked with Visa credit card and it offers same,

I called the office earlier in the week asking about adding insurance to the vehicle. The person on the phone said it would be 29.99. I ended up being charged a whole $500.00 more. As well as paying an additional $91 when I turned in the car. So ideally, I paid almost $783.81 for the entire rental. I left so confused and blind-sided. But I needed the car and did not have time to go elsewhere. I was also told the week prior that the only two cars that would be available were a red or white. I was given a green color. Which I did not complain just went ahead and took what was available. The car was clean in the inside but it smelled like cigarette. I am asthmatic and this was not good for me. I returned the car early and filled up the tank. I am happy that I was able to use the car for what I needed and it was still successful for my event. However, I am not sure I will be returning to rent from Alamo again. Thank you again. Respectfully, I hope I will have a more promising experience next time.

Car was very good condition. I noticed as I was leaving that the gas had not been topped off, and later I noticed it had nit been cleaned, kept finding sunflower seeds in the vehicle. I brought this to the attention of the gentleman who checked my car back in, and he made it right. I also got a follow up call within the hour from a manager. All in all a very positive car rental experience. I would definitely rent from Alamo again.

The worst, front desk attendant didn’t take care of what I was requesting and in need at the moment. She just brought an impromptu rental policy by telling me that as I just booked the car then there was a 2 hours wait, otherwise, if urgent I must upgrade and pay a higher rate, twice the rate I was willing to pay for. I travel a lot, sometimes I have to react from one day to another, I don’t have too much time for planning, I have never experienced this before, in any airport. Just this time with Thrifty at San Antonio (SAT) airport. Ridiculous

Did not appreciate the surprise $300 security deposit, extra charge for having a local ID(?) and then subsequent refusal to rent me the vehicle because I had a debit card. None of this information was given ahead of time and I ended up canceling it all. Thankfully, going straight to Enterprise down the road ended up helping me get the rental I needed
