My advice if you go to Florida more than once per year is to sign up for your own SunPass and bring it with you or bring your EZ Pass from home because there are a lot of paid roads in Florida. We always use a credit card that covers the car insurance so we don't have to take out extra insurance. And we NEVER rent an Economy - too small! Renting in Orlando: I prefer the off-property car rental places such as Advantage Car Rental at the MCO Airport. Access is easy and you will avoid the poorly designed and crazy-busy on-property traffic pattern. Local Driving: When you drive on I-4, just realize that you will be stuck in heavy traffic going west toward Lakeland or Tampa or east toward downtown Orlando - often stopped or crawling - for 20 to 30 minutes. Stay in the middle lanes(s) when possible. Once this thinking is kinda built into your travel estimate, you're good! Drivers aren't generally as aggressive as, say, Boston Rt 128 or Florida East Coast I-95 drivers, yet there are LOTS of them! There is always quite a bit of traffic on I-4. Polk Parkway, John Young Parkway, and other alternative routes are usually good for travel and busy but not maniacal.

Driving in Orlando is relatively easy but you do need satnav. One consideration is whether or not to buy a “toll package” at $12.99 per day. Apparently some tolls don’t take cash as the relevant cash booths are not manned so you could subsequently be hit with significant administration charges + relevant toll charges each time you go through the toll if you can’t pay cash at the booth. The big consideration is how often are you likely to pass through tolls to the locations you are going to. I would not take the weekly toll package with the benefit of hindsight as the only tolls I encountered during my stay were on main/very busy roads (e.g. to/from airport) where the toll booths were manned.

Generally good overall experience with Alamo. No issues with vehicle rented. The car I reserved wasn't available when I arrived at Alamo. The worker arranged for an "upgrade" that upgraded the cost by adding $70 to the cost of the rental, not including fees. Wasn't expecting this. Wish I had other options but needed the rental car so agreed to the extra charge. That was the biggest negative with this rental experience.

The vehicle I reserved had an inoperative AC compressor. Alamo quickly substituted an equivalent vehicle but the new car was EXTREMELY dirty from the previous family and had not likely been cleaned by Alamo. I was in an rush to depart for our family trip so I could not take the time to have Alamo clean the car. During the course of the rental period, I detailed the interior which was filthy and washed the outside of the vehicle. As I was returning the car at Orlando International Airport, the attendant asked me if I was happy with the rental. I explained what happened and what I had done. He instantly apologized and then offered to compensate me with a discount on the rental. I was overwhelmed and shocked that he would offer that to me without my asking. It shows how serious Alamo is about customer satisfaction. I would rent from Alamo any time I am on travel. Keep up the great work!

Customer service was not good. We had a flat, we were in Tennessee and it was raining and when we call for assistance they told us that since we had a complete tire in the trunk we had to change the tire. If we have to change the tire again then we had to call for road assistance. It was a complete disaster.

I returned the car early and still got charged the full rate. The only reason I us d them , is cause everyone else was booked and it was a emergency. It was $350 more than everyone else. If it wasn't a emergency , I wouldn't have even used them. I will never use them again. The lady at the pickup was very friendly and helpful, but that doesn't make you for the rest of the service.

Even with 2 weeks notice they couldn't arrange a regular sized suv for Orlando airport. I booked and paid for it, then got a call the next day saying 'sorry, we don't have that vehicle'. Well your website let me book it. It was a Ford Explorer or equivalent, not something unusual. They hung on to the payment for a week though. I booked with Alamo instead and had a seamless experience.

I rented 2 vehicles online and nothing was listed about not accepting debit cards. When my husband and son arrived, they were told we couldn’t use a debit card. The only credit card we have has a low limit (our choice) and wouldn’t support both rentals after the “hold” fees were added. Avis finally allowed us to use our debit card after making my husband feel like they were doing us an enormous favor. He also had to do all the paperwork again so what was done online was useless. Then they had his name wrong and after pointing it out, she crossed through it and told him to sign. I had purchased the additional insurance online but she insisted that we hadn’t and added it again so now I have to fight that. We also paid for a gps which came with a broken cord which we didn’t know until we were on the road so we had no way to charge it. This was the poorest experience we’ve ever had renting a vehicle and we won’t use Avis again.

The pick up was the worst I’ve ever experienced. It was late in the evening, after 10 pm. There was only one person working at the counter!!!! There was a huge line. We waited for an hour and a half!!! No other workers came out!!! I will say the one person working was extremely calm and courteous when we were finally checked in. Shame on budget for putting all of this pressure on one employee. The car was nice and clean, but we will not be renting from Budget again. We specifically rented on site at the airport because our flight was getting in around 9 pm. Very disappointing to have to wait this long, especially at this time of night with our tired family.

Hidden costs that should have been shared upon booking. In my had 2 people at the check in desk when we arrived I waited in line for an hour to get helped by a staff member. The line was about 30 people deep, they need to make sure they have the appropriate amount of staff for check in.

Not good. Car was in need of maintenance. No windshield washer fluid, tires were out of balance and so car/steering wheel vibrated the whole time, tires were over inflated. Also, upon check in, Hertz rep at MCO wanted to charge us an additional rate for my spouse to also drive when I am a Gold member.

When I booked with you all the description said "Unlimited Kilometers" But when I got to the rental car place they said they would not honor that. They tried to charge me another fifteen dollars and change PER day for miles over 150. This is very dissatisfying, they said that it is because Kayak is a third party... It is really disappointing that your listing was wrong and the rental was going to be over three times the price I paid on your website. I always love Kayak and your my first place I look for hotels and cars and flights... but this was bad.

Staff was actually friendly and efficient this time. We often hesitate to rent from Fox because they have some of the slowest staff, but this time was quite quick. We got a GREAT value for our SUV and paid less than half what we would have paid from another agency. The car was clean and in great working order.

I never made it to the reservation counter to pick up my car. The Fox car rental location was offsite and not at the airport. After waiting 20 minutes for the shuttle, it never arrived. I had to order another car last minute from a competing rental car distributor that was on-site at the airport.

I was charged for gas when I brought it back full. The pick up was late and I wanted a late delivery but I was charged. They tried to give me a lessor vehicle when I arrived and I had to fight to just get an equivalent to what I ordered rather than a smaller vehicle. The attendee tried to sell us a private deal so I suspect you already know that your staff also work for themselves. This has really left a bad taste with me. I would be glad to share my gas receipts less than a mile from the drop off. Never again Fox and I will share my story with others.

The whole experience was a disaster. The shuttle driver drove 80 mph on a 35 road, fell asleep at the wheel. The rental facility was in disrepair with wasp swarming around. They didn't provide a contract or terms until after booking the rental and arriving at the counter. The story goes on longer than I have time to explain. Avoid them at all costs

We came 2 hours early to get our car and had to book an additional day (to have a minivan instead of the car we had chosen) because we were told they had no cars available (even though the lot was full). The main reason we chose this rental agency was to save money, so this defeated the purpose. Also, although there were 3 people there not busy, no one offered us help. More importantly though, the check engine light came on multiple times during the trip, and the car smelled kinda bad (like it hadn't been cleaned in a while). We're going to be sticking to Enterprise or National from now on.

The reservation company took my money and made the reservation with NU Car. When I went to pick up the car they refused to give me the car stating that I was a Florida state resident and they did not rent to Fl state residents. Says it is in their contract and it absolutely was not!!!! The reservation company could not find it either. I did get my money back but was without a car again. Will never use NU Car again. Reservation company was awesome, not NU Car.

We originally booked our pick up time for 8:00 pm, but circumstances changed so I phoned to see if the pick up time could be changed to 3:00 pm. The person I spoke to said she would have to see if there would be a mini van available at 3:00 pm and put me on hold for a short time. When she returned to the phone she said, yes , we could change the time as a mini van would be available at 3:00 pm. Nothing in the original booking prepared us for the fact that the rental office was 15 minutes from the airport and when we got there at 3:00 pm, we were informed that there was no change to our rental time and that we would have to wait until 8:00 pm to pick up our minivan. The only option we were given was an upgrade which doubled the rental amount. Since we were sitting in the middle of nowhere and had five hours to wait, we felt we had no choice and paid for the upgrade. This extra charge put the rental amount on par with firms who actually have their pick up stations at the airport. The employees that I spoke to were pleasant, but overall this was not a pleasant experience as we ended up paying double what we had budgeted for. I will not use NU Car again.

No point in asking pre check in only to ask for the same info at the desk. Waiting in line 20 minutes to get car is unacceptable. I was not aware I rented a fully electric vehicle until I got to the desk to check in. After agreeing to that I walked out to garage to have to wait in line again. Came to my turn and no electric vehicle available. I was good with "upgrade" to another vehicle. Overall experience was horrible. I won't rent from dollar again.

Drop off was a breeze. Car was decently clean. Pickup the sales woman explained that I needed liability insurance for $100 for my rental because it was FL state law. I explained I carry my own insurance and I would be covered for rentals as well as my credit card coverage. She explained no it doesn’t work like that and made me sign up for the liability coverage. I late called back and complained and someone removed it thankfully but it was confrontational in the lobby while picking up my rental.

Except for a “Karen” at the front desk, the associates are really kind. The shuttle drivers are great, but there are hidden fees everywhere, and you need to add two hours just to get into their parking lot and wait in a super long line for your car. I don’t recommend this place and won’t use it again.

First of all, you never told me where to pick. I guess I never read the emails, but you never told me where to pick up the car so when I got to Florida airport, I tried to reach out to you and there’s no nowhere to call and it was voice automated is my first time to run from you guys so it be nice to receive a phone call the day before or two days before to tell me where to pick up the car And I thought it was actually gonna be easy to pick up the car at the airport that would be easy, but I am new to renting cars so it would be nice to get feedback but I’m hoping that you guys could reimburse me the $90 for fee but if you can reach out to me, my number is 9175181031. I never got the car so how can I know? I’m not computer savvy on the computer so having to rent with somebody else but going forward I think I know it’s on my part but should’ve reached out to me. Easy to get to the lot outside the airport. When I arrived at check in, all of the up sale started. Was charged for daily loss of use insurance because I didn’t have that on my personal insurance. They also made it difficult to use my SunPass for the toll roads. Wanted me to purchase theirs for $69/day! That would have been more than the rental. I went to find the car and the attendant said to just hit the key fob to find the car. When I got in, it had an incredibly strong marijuana odor. Car was good; no complaints there. Checkout was excellent; quick and easy. Ended with a quick shuttle to the airport.

NextCar is a huge rip-off: it advertises a cheap rental price, then jacks up the price for add-ons the customer often has no choice but to accept: 1) Florida residents pay MORE, and they don't get "unlimited mileage" (per the advertisement), 2) the rental agency forces the customer to provide ACCESS to their car insurance website (password AND login), or provide the full documents of your auto insurance policy. The auto insurance card won't do: you have to have THE FULL POLICY document with you. 3) If your own insurance has a large deductible, then you HAVE to buy the agency's expensive insurance. The upper limit is $500. Otherwise, they take out $500 from your credit card which they say they'll pay back after 30 days--just long enough to incur a charge of INTEREST on the payment.l 4) If you don't pay the agency in advance for tolls, you can't pay cash at the toll booth. The rental agency toll device will trigger if you drive a toll road, and you'll pay $14 regardless of whether you paid in cash. All of this is "negotiated" when you go pick up your car, and the negotiations can take more than AN HOUR, so wait time and long lines are ridiculously, maddeningly long. It was a horror.

Prices were jacked up mich higher than normal. Staff offered me a small SUV over the sedan I originally reserved but it turned out to be a lousy bumpy ride, intolerable at highway speeds due to the vibration at 75mph and greater. On the plus side, it didn't break down

Pickup took tom long.need more shuttles instead of waiting 20 minutes to get a shuttle and then a long drive to the pickup location. Was waiting before the gentleman after cut in and the staff didn’t say anything so I had to wait another 15minutes. Then it was my turn and they said I could leave without full coverage which i had to purchase extra. I knew i could use my personal wasn’t asked if i wanted to use that. They said yes you can and they need my ID card with my full declaration page.Couldn’t find my declaration page so they stole $200 dollar for the insurance from me. Never every again

Kayak + the rental company need to get in sync before they direct people to this rental company. I was denied a rental car at the facility on the day of my rental because I am a Florida resident. There should have been a CLEAR WARNING at the time to my rental finalization ON YOUR WEBSITE or the customer service should have reached out way a head of the rental date to let me of this RIDICULOUS policy. I couldn't rent the car and it ruined my family vacation, not to mention the issues with hotel booking at the destination. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!

The car itself was fine. Pick up was complicated and delayed, and after waiting more than 30 minutes, I had to call for pick up to the offsite (kind of creepy/ isolated) site. And then we began the haggling- extra “compulsory “ insurance, extra daily charge for tolls, my car insurance not being sufficient. Essentially attempts to quadruple what I expected to be the “total” rental price. It’s such a racquet.

The pricing was utterly "un-transparent". CarRental8.com charged us $277 for the week. But, in the fine print (though without specifying the amount), it turned out that OC Car Rental had other charges -- to the tune of $222 (a $20/day charge for "mandatory supplementary liability insurance" -- despite the fact that I am covered by my regular auto insurance - and a $35 "car rental center fee" and a $25 "enhanced disinfecting cleaning fee" and a $14 "surcharge"). This is truly despicable behavior by a car rental agency, and I do plan to report it to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

I traveled for business and processed this reservation online through Kayak with a business card. When I landed at the airport to pick up my rental car, the woman at the counter informed me it was not paid for just "reserved" and they couldn't charge the same card. A rental car for an entire week is A LOT of money to pay when you are under the assumption it is already paid for. This was definitely not communicated clearly in the booking process. I have rented cars several other times at a variety of places and this was not the process previously. When I returned the car to the airport, not a single counter was manned. All counters had signs pointing to each other saying "if no one is at this counter please go to the (insert company name here) counter".....but nobody was there. I finally settled on putting the keys for my National rental in the Enterprise dropbox on the counter because it was the only safe way to return it.

This requires taking a shuttle, which i wanted to avoid. 3. going to the counter and being inundated with possible uncharges is a bad experience. 4. also, in a moment of weakness I elected for prepaying for the gas refill. I reserved this as a referral from Kayak to Rentalcars.com. Their website, along with the confirmation email stated a "Total Cost" of $111.72. When I picked up the car, the agent presented me with "additional local costs" amounting to an additional $71.18. This included an unheard of "Pickup Fee" for $10.00 and "Dropoff Fee" for $10.00. I have never been charged these from any rental agency, anywhere in the world prior to this. None of these "additional local" charges were listed anywhere before pickup. The contract stated "Total Cost" of $111.72, and that's what I expected. In addition, the $250.00 "security deposit" has not been refunded or credited to my credit card as of yet. I have tried all morning to reach the agency to inquire about this. They answered only after about 30 minutes of putting me on hold. The representative could not give me any reasonable answers about the additional charges, but said the security deposit would take 5-10 business days. I will monitor that. Please remove Global Car Rental from your list of agencies. They have committed what I believe is a classic case of Bait and Switch.

Pros:

Drop off was super easy and fast, staff is well trained and professional. first car we got had a strong cigarette smell we just went to the front desk we communicated to the front desk and without hesitation they changed our car. i was very pleased.

Waited too long for the car. We got there 10 minutes before the appointment too. The car we asked for is not available. Gave us an”upgrade”, but it’s a gas guzzler. Also not unlimited miles like they said. It’s 60 miles a day. So false advertise from that angle. Probably not going to rent from them again.

I paid for an SUV. I never got one. Instead, I got a beat up 8 year old car, that they likely bought from an auction. The bumpers were hanging off. Dents and scratches everywhere. They ignored my complaints. This company is UNKNOWN to anyone AVOID

Took too long for pickup. Tried to upsell for everything! Barely spoke English! Wanted proof of insurance and wanted to charge $45 a day for their insurance even though I was already insured. Finally left without a car and went to Alamo and had great service! In the hours I was at surprise car rental not one customer was happy with the service or the car they rented! I will never use this company again and strongly recommend others do not! I will be getting a refund!

It took awhile for the shuttle bus to get to the airport for pickup. My insurance provides coverage for rental cars. Unknown to me, they require a copy of my insurance policy to 'verify' that I have that coverage, or else I have to buy their insurance coverage. My flight was delayed and I got to their facility about 8pm. She said I was supposed to have picked up my car by noon and would 'have to see if they still have a car available and if they could verify that my original rental fees were still available". They decided to let me have the car. It is dark outside and they have the black vehicle out in a dark area where I am supposed to inspect it for any damage. I brought the card back in to her where I marked that I didn't see any obvious damage, but trying to see any surface scratches or scrubs was impossible. She said, 'you didn't write the mileage down''. I said the rental agency normally does that. I went back out and got the mileage. At this point I was frustrated and really needed to get on the road as I had a 1.5 hour drive to get where I had to go and be up for a very early meeting. I have never gotten a rental that didn't have a full tank of gas, EVER. About 10 minutes down the road it started to rain and I was trying to figure out the wipers. I then noticed it only had a 1/2 tank of gas!! When I got back I mentioned this to the lady behind the counter. She said it was my problem because I was supposed to inspect the car before taking it. Lesson learned when dealing with Surprice!!

SCAM BUSINESS! They charged me a 20$/day fee because I'm from Canada! They said that my own insurance is in Canada, so becasue I refuse their insurance I have to pay a fee. I've travelled 20 times in the USA and this was by far my worst experience. I've tried to explain myself at agent on the front desk and the answer was : 'you have 2 options, you cancel the contract non refundable or you pay the fee now (the fee was 25$ MORE than the total amount for 6 days of rental). Make a quick choice they are others customers waiting... Will never go back at Surprice

I was charged significantly more than what I had booked the car for. They charged me for the liability insurance and did not give me an option without it. The offsite location was cumbersome and confusing. There was no one on site. They used a virtual kiosk which is fine, but had I known that I would’ve spent a little extra and gone to one of the major brands and picked it up at the airport. The car was about what I expected for a cheap rental car, that in the end wasn’t very cheap. It ended up being far more expensive than it should’ve been for the car that I ended up with. Overall a poor experience and I will not rent with them again if I make a similar trip.

I arrived at 10:00 pm at the MCO, by the time to get the shuttle all the stations were closed. I didn’t get the car and no one was answering the phone. I had to rent a car from Avance for 5 times the money since I didn’t have a reservation. They haven’t even refunded the money yet.

The pick up process wad complicated. You have to speak to someone on a screen, and then they require that you go around the vehicle and take a lot of pictures to stay within the contract requirements. This made the pickup process complicated and stressful. Once familiar with the process, the drop off was easier and I would think it’s easy going forward, but it was complicated the first time.

The shuttle driver was nice other than that because I booked a package I didn't know that they would not take my car insurance and made me pay for their insurance. $5000 dollar deductible! Really! My fault on this one. Also tried to get me to pay a penalty for going through 2 tolls. I have been driving Orlando for 30 plus years and didn't go through a toll. He said it says it on the computer that I went through 2, show me the screen. No, show me the date and time. No! Then no I'm not paying. Called credit card company right away. Credit card company asked for the date and time of the tolls too I explained that they would not tell me. They said not to worry about it and they would take care of it.

Shady business. They wanted us to text a pic of where we are at the airport and said they'll send a minivan with different business logo to pick us up. Took 40 mins for the car to arrive. Upon the car arrival we were informed that they don't accept tesla insurance and we need to purchase really expensive insurance from them. We just ended up renting different car from one of legit companies at the airport instead of taking a risk to deal with this people.

Terrible, will not use them again. Waited over hour for shuttle. Then over another hour in line at location. To be informed they refused to honor my insurance then charge me more than the rental price for insurance. I’ve never had an issue like that with any other rental company.

Waited an hour to get the car plus the shuttle to the building. There is lots of fine print. So fees, fees, fees. The $15 car turned out to be about $30. I would have just gone to the big name brand to be in and out for a little more. $500 hold on credit card. $10 a day over 75 fee. $20 mandatory collision if you don't have it from your insurance. $6 a gallon for fuel fill up surcharge. $15 a day for toll plate activation. There's more but I can't remember. I think they also said they can't use debit cards only credit cards? They don't accept American Express. That's what I can remember. Beware!!

The good: they had a car as promised. The not good: they lured me in with a “too good to be true” price a week prior to arrival; then informed me I needed to carry an absurd amount of insurance on my policy, otherwise I need to purchase their insurance at $35 per day. No effort was made to make me aware of this policy prior to arriving. By then you’ve taken the shuttle way outside the airport; and your basically stuck with a huge bill you weren’t planning on. Better to be upfront with customers re: the real cost of the rental before committing to it. But again, they did have a car available.

Staff was very friendly !! Car was clean and very reliable. Although I was not expecting an extra $230 in fees that I had to pay when I got there. I paid $52 for the 3 days I was going to be there when I made the reservation, but when I got there I had to pay an extra $230. They advertised it to be $7/day + tax which was a great deal so I jumped on it. Because of that I won’t rent from them again. I’ll stick with the rentals at the airport.

Disappointed enough to not request more of your services because I closed the business and when I arrived at the agency they demanded a new insurance and asked me for an extra $650. Everything must be dealt with before, both the price, requirements and documentation and when the client pays, the business is closed, and it is criminal that we cleinyes are surprised when we arrive for what we buy or lease. President Baiden said that these bad practices must end so that there is confidence and business is generated in the country. You are ruining the system. Now I want my money back in full since I had to rent a car elsewhere.

We waited for an hour for pick up at the airport and never did see a van. We had to get a taxi to the site to get the car. We were shocked to have to provide our car insurance from home and had to get someone to our house to take pictures of our insurance and still had to pay a daily rate. This was the worst rental experience I have had in 40 years of renting cars. I will never do business with this company again and will tell all my traveling friends to avoid you.

This is a convenient option if you’re flying into the city. Alternatively, major car rental agencies have locations throughout the city in popular tourist areas, like Downtown Orlando, International Dive, Kissimmee, and near Walt Disney World. Certain area hotels even offer car rental services on-site for guests.

What to know about toll roads in Orlando

Orlando has an extensive network of ten toll roads that connect various destinations throughout the city and beyond. Unless you want to add significant time to your travels, you will likely use at least one of the toll roads during your trip. For example, the typical drive from the airport to Disney World’s Epcot is 25 minutes using tolls and 50 minutes without using them, while the typical drive from Disney Springs to Cocoa Beach is 70 minutes using toll roads and 110 minutes without them.
