Top tips for hiring a car at Vail Eagle County airport

  • A great feature of this small airport that has all of seven gates for airline traffic is that finding everything in the airport is rather easy. Once you pick up your bags from the baggage claim area, you will find all of the companies that offer car rental at Vail Eagle County Airport (EGE) have counters adjacent to the baggage claim just to the east in the terminal building.
  • One of the benefits of car rental at Vail Eagle County Airport is that it acts as a convenient form of transportation to make the rather long trip to an amazing spot like Vail. There is bus service and taxi service available, but buses can be a hassle, especially if you are carrying a great deal of winter gear. While taxis let you carry more, the cost for the ride can be exorbitant. That is why a rental car is a great combination of convenience and cost-effectiveness.
  • When you are ready to return your car rental at Vail Eagle County Airport the process is quite easy. As you approach the small airport along either Interstate 70 or Highway 6, you'll see plenty of signage directing you to the airport parking lot where you will return your rental car. Once you are there, you can park in an appropriate location for your rental car company, take your keys and your contract, and then drop them in the provided dropbox. If you do need to speak to staff about your rental, they are available at the customer service counters for your convenience.
  • Because this is an airport that serves an area known for a lot of outdoor sports activities throughout the year, you will find that there can be long wait times for picking up a Vail Eagle County Airport car rental, especially during times when people will travel here like on weekends or during holidays. That is why it is such a good idea to reserve a car with one of the rental car companies here before you make your trip.
  • Book your car hire at Vail Eagle County airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about renting a car at Vail Eagle County airport

  • What type of documentation do I need to rent a car at this airport?

The process for renting a car at this airport is quite simple. The person that is renting the car will need a valid driver's license issued in the United States plus a credit card. If your driver's license was not issued in the United States, you can use it so long as it is valid, plus you will need a second form of identification such as a passport.

  • What is a good type of car to rent at this airport?

Since so many people travel to this part of the world for a number of outdoor adventures an SUV is a great choice for a rental here. Not only does it allow you to take all of your passengers and their luggage in style and comfort, but it can keep you safe on sometimes slippery or winding roads in this area.

  • Which of the rental car companies that are at this airport are easiest to use?

Because all the rental car companies that operate at this airport are larger national chains, they should all be easy to use. That said, it is always easiest to use the largest of the companies because they tend to have the largest fleet of vehicles, plus they will generally have passenger information boards that will direct you straight to your car. This way, you do not need to wait in line or speak with staff before picking up a rental car.

  • Which car rental companies will pick you up at Vail Eagle County airport?

Car rental companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Vail Eagle County airport to off-airport locations include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, and Thrifty.

Our rental agreement included "I will fill gas tank" option. We drove very little, so it only needed $8.25 to fill the tank. However, I was charged an additional $38.18 for "Fuel and Service"! What a ripoff!! I didn't have a physical receipt, but I did send the details from my CC statement.
