Cons: Smelled like smoke inside even though it was a non-smoking car.

Pros: The car handled well, was fairly new, and overall mostly enjoyable.
Cons: The car had police evidence stickers still on it from god knows what. In addition, one morning the car would not start. I have experience as a mechanic and found that the positive battery terminal was loose and not making a good electrical connection. I fixed this and the car was fine for the rest of my trip. Needless to say, this should not happen and I should not need to diagnose and repair my own rental car. Perhaps a better pre-rental vehicle check would help?

Bad customer service
Pros: Good price
Cons: Called in advance if I could have 30 minutes grace period for returning, they said ok. When I arrived, the guy behind the counter gave me the silent treatment for about 5 minutes, then said " you're late " I explained that I called, but didn't matter to him. He says they could charge me for additional day- he was really indignant. Most rental companies will give an hour or so grace, but this guy would have none of it, even after I called ahead.

Representative was friendly
Pros: he was courteous and explained the breakdown of the charges with patience
Pros: Kiosk to check out car was quick way to avoid long line. Cars were clean. Price wasn't bad.
Cons: DON'T RENT A YARIS for freeway driving. Car rattled and struggled over 55 mph. Had to return it and was surprised when agent said - yeah, not great on freeway. THIS IS CA! You can't avoid the freeway! Though we have a HERTZ in my town had to go to airport because it isn't open on Sunday or Holiday. Would have liked to return to another location, would have cost hundreds to do so!

Worse experience ever
Pros: Close to home
Cons: I booked a SUV almost two weeks in advance, but on the day of pickup they had none on site! What's the point of booking in advance and paying? I wasn't the only one complaining when i was at their facility. People were returning cars right away because of engine issues, etc. They drove me to a nearby location (30 minutes) which had a SUV in stock, but it was dirty and had dents. I was already 2 hour late for my trip and i had no other option to take it. And it took them 2 weeks to release the final receipt. Not doing business with Hertz again.

Customer service person at Newark, CA sucked - her
Pros: *Upgraded SUV
*The manager was good a resolving the problem and responsible.
*Clean Tahoe SUV
Cons: *No pick up from home even though I requested it a week in advance.
*Customer service person put me on hold over 10 minutes.
*Crappy customer service, the kiddies were running the shows.
