The vehicle type you decide on for car hire in Freilassing depends on whether you are exploring the city only or taking a road trip in and around the Alps. Freilassing experiences varying weather conditions, including snow and ice in winter, so consider an SUV or 4x4 type car, which will give you better traction and stability on slippery roads. These cars will also come with extra space and much needed heating options. If you plan to stay in the city, a small compact car is best for narrow roads and tight parking spots.

Driving in Germany is strictly policed, and you must obey the speed limits at all times. The speed limit in cities and built-up areas is 50 km/h (31 mph) and 100 km/h (62 mph) on non-urban/open roads. There are some smaller roads that will have more restrictive speeds of 30 km/h (18 mph). The world-famous autobahn is known for having no restrictions on speed, but there are certain rules about type of car and speed limits.

When utilising Freilassing car hire, you will have ample choice of parking spots. There is a limited amount of street parking, if you go early enough in the day, and plenty of pubic car parks – look for the blue signs saying ‘Parkplatz’. There is also a Park and Ride facility near the train station where you can park and use public transportation. Shopping centres have designated parking for customers, but there might only be a limited time free.
