Don’t wait around for buses or taxis, which will likely slow you down – instead, get all the flexibility you need with car hire in Calais. A city steeped in history, you’ll find it much easier to visit popular tourist areas such as the Watchtower and Fort Nieulay by car than by other methods of transport. Alternatively, you can take a trip to a destination outside the city, such as Dunkirk, which is about a 35min drive away. Here you can explore the famous city which is the location from where Allied soldiers were evacuated during World War Two.
  • The largest airport close to Calais is about a 1h 20min drive from the city centre. At Lille Lesquin Airport (LIL), there are various companies you can hire a car from for your onward journey. Hertz, Enterprise and Sixt all have branches in the main terminal building, so it won’t take long once you land before you are setting off to continue your journey. You can find the car hire kiosks on Level Two of the airport.
