Insights shared by verified travellers who rented a car in Mississauga
This is an ideal place to pick the vehicle and the process is very easy .Just inspect the vehicle thoroughly before get it.Always try to return on the same fuel level while rented out as the fuel near airport premises is always an expensive
Verified travelerApr 2026
Get the insurance online. It will be more expensive in person.
NausheenFeb 2026
Since my flight was landing around midnight, I called at customer service to ensure the working hours of the office. The customer service rep was kind enough to get my flight details and assured me that the staff can track the flight status and will ensure to be available for me to pick the vehicle even if there are any expected delays in the flight timings. I was impressed.

Leaving the airport could have better signs, to give a clearer exit. The exit from the car rental, doesn't allow easy access to the exit from the airport (curb in the way) which leaves you to drive around the building. (unless I didn't see the proper signs)
Verified travelerSept 2025
Be aware of travel season when rates are higher if cost is a concern.

Stay with the car rentals at the airport.
Verified travelerAug 2025
Book with a reputable company that may cost more, but can be more accommodating.
MJul 2025
Make sure you know whether the rental car agency is on or off airport property - it’s not super-intuitive how to find the rental car shuttles outside of the airport (phone located at base of train station near elevators to call for shuttle pick up after hours). If we didn’t have an airport employee with us, we would’ve been completely lost as a first-time Toronto car renter.
Verified travelerAug 2025
If you want to rent on airport property you pay extra. If you want to save money rent off property but expect delays.
Verified travelerAug 2025
Rent from an agency actually within the airport and ensure that 3rd party liability coverage is included. This was a very poor experience
Verified travelerApr 2025
350$ deposit wasn’t made that clear. Definitely check your insurance coverage prior to renting. Any fixes will be billed to your credit card - be mindful of that SUV or car works well in the area

Arrive early! Long line and mistakes made at pickup. After hours drop off not convenient
Verified travelerSept 2024
Read the fine print there are lots of charges and fees you don’t realize till you get there. They charge airport fees and taxes also for commercial vehicles they make you pay insurance if you don’t have it which is only 30 but didn’t see that when renting. Also deductible is 4000 deposit is 1500. Make sure you check km before leaving as they didn’t give me my 25km free like I was told.
AshleyAug 2024
The traffic is extremely slow and congested so getting something that is comfortable with lots of leg room while also being fuel efficient is a need.

I was not aware of the requirement to have proof of insurance in spite of that offered by Visa. This caused long delays for many people picking up rentals. I have rented from many companies in Europe and America and this was a first. There should be a bold warning on the rental website.
ChelseaMar 2024
It was difficult to tell which locations are on site and which you have to take a shuttle to. The convenience makes Alamo more expensive but well worth it if you are comfortable spending about $80 more than an off site location.
Verified travelerApr 2024
Check the vehicle thoroughly before accepting it both inside and out. Too much focus is spent on the body and not enough on the condition of the features you actually use

In the Mississauga/Toronto area, the roads are generally very well maintained. It is a very urban area with several million people. In some of the city park areas, parking may be difficult to find as a nearby or neighborhoods are restricted. The drivers in this area are generally pretty good. Taking to the highways outside of the metropolitan area might show that large commercial trucks are allowed to drive down the left (fast) lane (or at least, if they are not allowed, they do that anyway).
Verified travelerOct 2023
It’s convenient to pick up and drop off at the airport, saves a lot on taxis. It might be a little difficult if one is coming through Terminal 3 though as client needs to take the train between terminals.

If you are not used to driving in Toronto or the big city, it is very stressful and you have to be extremely attentive of all other drivers around you. Fortunately I HAVE lived near this area and understand the type of driving people do around here. But it is hectic. I’m glad that I was driving around non-cities for the majority of my trip.
Verified travelerNov 2023
Be prepared to provide insurance proof, delay in pickup time May happen because of busy days and hours, if you are getting down at airport pickup and drop is provided by most car rental agencies as their offices are outside the airport. For Toronto person passengers both T1 and T3 , take the sky train to viscount and car rental agencies wil provide a ride.

You need a GPS, the jumbled overpass superhighway will confuse you and spit you out miles away from where you want to go if you mess up. Drivers are aggressive so buy your insurance in advance at your home town insurance company beforehand, they offer better coverage for using vehicles that arent yours than the purchased insurance packages from rental companies, also cheaper too!!

KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Mississauga
Explore everything in and around Mississauga conveniently on your own four wheels and get a rental car for your trip to the Canadian city of Mississauga. From the city center, it is only half an hour to Hamilton and the center of Toronto where you have shops, all kinds of restaurants, and plenty of entertainment at your disposal. Travelers who want to see Niagara Falls are only an hour’s drive away.
The closest airport to Mississauga is Toronto Pearson International Airport, and renting a car directly from there will put travelers within less than 15 minutes of driving to Mississauga center. The car rental service desks can be found in the parking garages of Terminal 1 and 3 and include companies like Avis, Enterprise, or Hertz. The quickest way to Mississauga is via the ON-403 E.
Mississauga has quite a high collision rate and therefore texting and driving is severely fined. If you need a satnav, rent it with the car -- just make sure to get one that is attached with a holder. Generally speaking, the driving behavior in Mississauga is rather on the aggressive side and can include running a red light or speeding. Defensive driving is the best response and always double-check before venturing into an intersection or roundabout.
Try to avoid driving during Mississauga’s rush hour, which is usually between 8:00 and 9:00 am. The traffic increases considerably and will cost up to an hour’s delay. Driving between 3:30 and 4:30 pm is also not advised, as many people return from their jobs during this time, clogging up the streets. Winter driving conditions can also be challenging in Mississauga, so making sure the car is properly equipped and keep your speed adapted to the conditions.

FAQs about renting a car in Mississauga
What type of car is recommended for driving in Mississauga?
Especially when visiting during the colder months, a car with 4-wheel drive is a good choice as it provides the necessary road grip. An SUV or minivan are options that allow travelers to whizz through the city but still deal with the weather conditions in the countryside, too.
What’s the speed limit in Mississauga?
The speed limit signs in Mississauga are given in km/h and are 40 km/h (24 mph) in school areas and 50 km/h (31 mph) in the city, unless indicated differently. When leaving the city, drivers can speed up to 80 km/h (50 mph) on most country highways and 100 km/h (62 mph) on freeways.
Where are the best places to park in Mississauga?
On-street parking in Mississauga is heavily restricted and mostly only allowed for up to three hours and is completely prohibited between 2:00 and 6:00 am. Therefore, it is wise to opt for accommodation with a parking spot included or instead choose a parking garage or lot, like the Sheridan College or 215 Enfield Place.

This location has scams occurring. First off they put $1000 hold on my credit card when their own rental agreement said it should be a $300 hold. Secondly, and most importantly, they demanded that I get liability insurance when in fact it is the law that rental companies in Ontario must carry basic liability insurance and it is not mandatory for the renter who has personal car insurance and an American Express platinum card that covers up to $75,000 damage. They indicated to me liability insurance was mandatory and if I did not pay the money for the liability insurance they would not rent me the car. I was stuck. I paid the money but filed a formal complaint with the headquarters in Indianapolis and the local franchise.
When I selected it had unlimited mileage but when I got there the dude put 400km for two days and when I asked him later about it he claimed that he already told me local rentals aren’t unlimited. I didn’t bother making a fuss that he didn’t. But it crazy that he tried to gaslight me. Wouldn’t not recommend this place unless you know one of the managers there and are helping you directly

I recently rented a car from Economy Car Rental cot, and while the booking process was easy, I was disappointed by the misleading information on their website regarding the kilometer allowance. The website stated that the rental included unlimited kilometers, but when I arrived to pick up the car, I was told a different limit applied. This caused confusion and unexpected extra charges. The staff were polite, but I wish the company ensured the information on their website matched the actual rental terms. Clear and accurate details are important for customer trust. I hope they update their website to avoid this issue for future renters.

This is not Economy Rent a Car, it’s Jet Car Rental. They misrepresent themselves as a reputable brand when really it’s an independent location and there is only 1. Also, they advertise unlimited KM but then tell you it’s capped at 1400 km and each additional Km is $0.30, plus 35% tax. They make you pay for insurance no matter if you have insurance or not, so be prepared for $5-$12 a day for that. And they take a $1000 deposit which I was not informed about. This place should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

Long waits, rude staff, ridiculous hidden fees, staff misleading customers about what their own coverage will cover to sell their own. You get what you pay for here...go elsewhere.

The office was small and crowded, as the pick-up/drop off was slow. A lot of people were waiting around for service (the drop off was faster than pick up). Their rental policies are out-of-line with main stream renters. They did mention that the renter needed to show proof of insurance coverage upon pick up, but I was unable to access mine upon pickup and was required to purchase additional insurance of $30/day for a two week rental ($560.00). I have since provided coverage details and have not heard back from them at all. They also provided information how to get to their location, which was a relatively short train ride and then shuttle bus, but it also meant a significantly longer process to picking up the vehicle. With the additional hassle and significant cost difference, I have learned not to use Kayak's services or anticipate any cost savings in the future.
First car they gave me had no washer fluid - then I stopped and filled it up and it still did not work. So , I drive from Hamilton back to the Toronto airport to get a “safe car” where I could clean the windshield. They gave me a different car and gave me the money for the useless fluid that had been out in the other car. So they gave me a different car the next day. Needless to say, this one also has issue. Shame on me for not checking the washer fluid on the second car - because Logan’s behold - the second car had the same issue as the first. Brutal. Also, I got pulled over in burlington by the police the other day as they claimed that the plate on the car was expired and not valid. Wtf? So when I get asked for the ownership - guess what?!? - no ownership paperwork in the car. Do you guys really do this full time? This operation seems pretty unprofessional. I mean - who gives out unsafe cars? Twice? And with zero compensation…. Especially after I called and asked for the manager to call me back after I found the second car was unsafe too - but no call back. The guy at the counter was nice. But I would not recommend this company at all. Frankly - I hope you follow up on this. Tim Simon (905)407-8082

I booked the mid size SUV however they gave me compact SUV which is smaller and was not convenient for me. Besides of that, when I booked the car there was unlimited miles however at the spot they said that I have only 600 km for my entire booking which is 200 km a day. Overall, I had a bad experience with this place. Not recommended

Attendant at pickup was alone slow going, but patient and helpful, very professional. Car interior windshield was dirty and with fingerprints within the line of sight area, rest of car clean. Drop-off was very busy and extremely slow, seemed like the 4 staff members to handle pickup & drop-off was more important to talking with each other than attending to customers.
Advantage uses another agency at the airport. They are difficult to get to, the shuttle doesn’t run very often and they are hidden down a hallway in a hotel. The office at this place called York is only open 9-6 and there are no after hours pick ups or drop offs but that was NOT made obvious during the rental booking process. Because the shuttle took so long for pick up I arrived at the office at 6:10. No one was there. I tried calling the number - voicemail full. I was given the advantage number to call for issues which I did. The person at Advantage said they can’t help me with that particular location and gave me the number I called originally - voicemail full still. Called the next morning when they were supposedly open- no answer - goes to voicemail, voicemail still full even though the office has been open for an hour. I decided to cancel my reservation. Again Advantage said they couldn’t do it I would have to speak to local office, can’t get through to local office. Sent York an email - they replied they cant cancel it, I would have to speak to Expedia. Expedia said they can’t cancel it, I’d have to speak to York. Ended up having to book another car with a different agency. I WOULD NEVER RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE or recommend them.
Staff is not helping and arrogant they try to get all extra benefits from sell they explain if you don’t have extra protection and you have problems then you are in big trouble i think i am not renting

It took well over an hour to pick Up my vehicle making me late for the rest of my day. No apologies or discounts on my bill. Car had a very odd odour, not sure exactly but the cleaning products made it smell strongly of something I would liken to a “barn or farm” setting. I accidentally drove through one section of the 407 and they charged me $50, no sympathy. The office space and washroom were also straight up filthy. Avoid here if possible.

Communication is poor; I didn't get unlimited mileage as indicated online, there was no mention of $1000 deposit and there is no drop off or pick up service offered. I wouldn't recommend or use again.

Our flight was cancelled and they did not refund our money. We were stuck paying full price for a service that we didn’t receive.
Terrible. Took about 1.5 hours to get my car. Office was crowded, multiple customers ahead of us had problems with their reservation (mainly about insurance). They could not find our reservation as apparently, it had not been forwarded to them by Kayak. Took a long time to process. This was the first ... and last time that I will use Kayak to rent a car (other than the next reservation I have with Kayak in Portugal which I do not expect to be any better).

Car wasn’t ready and we were in a hurry. By the time they brought the car it was dirty. Price was cheap but I guess you get what you pay for. Staff treated us very well but the company itself was run very poorly.
Extremely disappointing experience. I have rented in past from other Toronto rentals. While everyone has their policies, this experience left very bad taste because Flexways and Swift rental agency doubled up cost quoting additional insurance requirements when I arrived to pick vehicle.

They were prompt for pickup, easy to communicate with and their prices were great! Would definitely use them again.
My license had just expired (my fault) I'm frustrated that I ended up needing to pay an extra cancellation fee on top of paying the full price of the rental. Really feels like it should be one or the other, and the vague policy of "changing dates and times may result in an extra charge" feels like it would be more reasonable. Also not a fan of the AI chatbot when I went to check their website.

Advertised as pick up in the airport but actually had to take a train and then be driven to the agency off site of the airport. This is false advertising on your site and should be corrected. Numerous additional charges on arrival. Basic 3rd party liability not included which is a legal requirement to drive. I asked for a detailed receipt, they said it will be emailed. I have not received it still despite phoning them.

The reservation was accidentally booked to return 1 hr after pick-up time, which would still be 3 days! The rental company wanted to charge 4 days for everything and kept blaming me for booking the return 1 hr later and that it was booked by a 3rd party nothing they could do for me. Awful service, I will never book with them again.
