The city of Qufu is most famous as the home of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius. Located 130 kilometers south of the Shandong provincial capital of Jinan, Qufu has a relatively small urban population of 60,000. Besides housing the Confucius temple and cemetery, Qufu also served as the capital of the State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period, between the 8th and 5th century BC.
