Renting in Orlando: I prefer the off-property car rental places such as Advantage Car Rental at the MCO Airport. Access is easy and you will avoid the poorly designed and crazy-busy on-property traffic pattern. Local Driving: When you drive on I-4, just realize that you will be stuck in heavy traffic going west toward Lakeland or Tampa or east toward downtown Orlando - often stopped or crawling - for 20 to 30 minutes. Stay in the middle lanes(s) when possible. Once this thinking is kinda built into your travel estimate, you're good! Drivers aren't generally as aggressive as, say, Boston Rt 128 or Florida East Coast I-95 drivers, yet there are LOTS of them! There is always quite a bit of traffic on I-4. Polk Parkway, John Young Parkway, and other alternative routes are usually good for travel and busy but not maniacal.

The way out of MCO is a bit tricky. For Germans/Europeans: be reminded that there is no law in the US to drive on the right lane if possible, so everyone can use every lane at any speed. ace rent a car was very straight forward and much easier and conviennent than the services that are offered at the airport. However the quality of their cars might not be as great. Hertz gave me an incredibly hard time and I suspected a lot of aggression and racism from the employee who was helping me with my reserved rental. I had ended up leaving hertz behind to go to ace.

Don't panic about using off sight vendors. There is a spot at the terminal for you to wait for you car company to pick you up and the prices are cheaper. Oh, and if you think about it. You don't have to drive into the airport after. You drop the car back to them offsite and and they drop you off at the airport. LOVED that!!

Driving in Orlando is relatively easy but you do need satnav. One consideration is whether or not to buy a “toll package” at $12.99 per day. Apparently some tolls don’t take cash as the relevant cash booths are not manned so you could subsequently be hit with significant administration charges + relevant toll charges each time you go through the toll if you can’t pay cash at the booth. The big consideration is how often are you likely to pass through tolls to the locations you are going to. I would not take the weekly toll package with the benefit of hindsight as the only tolls I encountered during my stay were on main/very busy roads (e.g. to/from airport) where the toll booths were manned.

We had a 73 day rental. We had to go to the airport twice for 30 day checks. It was a nuisance as the car wasn't even checked. Could this be looked into please? Over 73 days our milage was around 1,500 so not over used.

this was our first time with FOX and renting through KAYAK so we were prepared for the rest, however, the experience was AMAZING and so easy! Pick up from the airport was seamless, the pick up from the rental place was SUPER FAST & EASY!!! We will DEF be future renters with FOX and FOX only!

Terrible, I would never recommend it. They givie a rate, and then charge you whatever they can extra. In this case was a Platepass cgarge for $12.99 per rental day, if you try to disregard it the become aggressive and rude and trheat you with a 15$ penalty for every single toll you go trough. Cars have high mileage and noises, needed to go to exchange the first car they gave me.

Booked the vehicle online Paid for vehicle rental and insurance at that time. When got to Thrifty was told that insurance didnt cover driving. Had to buy more insurance which I could have purchased cheaper at home. For what we paid there were a lot of other options available . No point in asking pre check in only to ask for the same info at the desk. Waiting in line 20 minutes to get car is unacceptable. I was not aware I rented a fully electric vehicle until I got to the desk to check in. After agreeing to that I walked out to garage to have to wait in line again. Came to my turn and no electric vehicle available. I was good with "upgrade" to another vehicle. Overall experience was horrible. I won't rent from dollar again.

The check in process was poor, at best. I was told to go back inside after the kiosk associate told me I was in the wrong to see her first. This was incorrect. I had a contract as a VIP member and the sign posted about check in prior to 11am was correct which it wasn’t. Once I received my car and logged it with SunPass and loaded bags I was denied exit due to a registration issue/given the wrong 3 row SUV. I was asked to drive back, see the same rude woman and get a new SuV. Unload. Load again. Re-register with SunPass. Oh, except this time the car they gave me was the body of a three row SUV without the option ticked for the seats themselves. Lovely, as I needed the seats for my family and not so much for the extra bag space. I left. Made it worked but so aggravating. No more Dollar. Worth spending the extra money for SIXT.

There was a long (2 hours) queue when picking up the car at the airport. When picking up the car it had been cleaned with a very smelly cleaner. The smell did not go away during the entire 3 week rental. The dropping off was easy and fast - so it was totally opposite experience between picking up and dropping off the car. The deposit paid when picking up the car was returned within a few days.

I was charged an additional $450 for insurance that I declined. I didn’t notice until after I left the airport, so I called the 800 number. I was told that I could go to any hertz location and they would fix it. The next morning I went and found a hertz location near where I was staying and they said that I had to return to the airport (an hour away). The employee said that they get 10+ people coming in everyday with the same complaint so apparently this is their regular practice! I will be disputing it with my credit card company.

Customer service was not good. We had a flat, we were in Tennessee and it was raining and when we call for assistance they told us that since we had a complete tire in the trunk we had to change the tire. If we have to change the tire again then we had to call for road assistance. It was a complete disaster.

I returned the car early and still got charged the full rate. The only reason I us d them , is cause everyone else was booked and it was a emergency. It was $350 more than everyone else. If it wasn't a emergency , I wouldn't have even used them. I will never use them again. The lady at the pickup was very friendly and helpful, but that doesn't make you for the rest of the service.

I initially reserved some kind of Jeep. The website offered an upgrade to a BMW X2, which is a lot smaller. At the counter I told them I needed to carry 3 people and luggage. The back only held 2 suitcases, so the third had to go in the back seat. The only option they had to get something bigger would have cost a lot more per day. I should not have upgraded. The employee only gave me options for full coverage or basic coverage, not no coverage. I think that is very deceptive. After arriving at my hotel I called about exchanging it for something bigger and was told I would receive a call or email in 24-36 hours. I never received a call or email. Overall I was very disappointed in this company.

I was charged for an extra day and numerous other unknown fees. The agent wants able to print a receipt, so the surprise came when I checked my account and requested an ereciept. The price ended up double what I intended to pay.

I rented 2 vehicles online and nothing was listed about not accepting debit cards. When my husband and son arrived, they were told we couldn’t use a debit card. The only credit card we have has a low limit (our choice) and wouldn’t support both rentals after the “hold” fees were added. Avis finally allowed us to use our debit card after making my husband feel like they were doing us an enormous favor. He also had to do all the paperwork again so what was done online was useless. Then they had his name wrong and after pointing it out, she crossed through it and told him to sign. I had purchased the additional insurance online but she insisted that we hadn’t and added it again so now I have to fight that. We also paid for a gps which came with a broken cord which we didn’t know until we were on the road so we had no way to charge it. This was the poorest experience we’ve ever had renting a vehicle and we won’t use Avis again.

Mark at Payless was fantastic. He was honest and make the process painless. If you are a local person needing a short term rental this is the best place to go in Orlando. Do not waste your time with any of the other cheap companies that provide so called, good deals. They will lie, scam and waste your time. Pros:

Prices were jacked up mich higher than normal. Staff offered me a small SUV over the sedan I originally reserved but it turned out to be a lousy bumpy ride, intolerable at highway speeds due to the vibration at 75mph and greater. On the plus side, it didn't break down

Cons:

Cleanliness. I had to hit my breaks hard once and trash slid out from under the passenger seat.

What rental car? I was never picked up at the airport and never got a rental car from Economy. I waited a full hour and nobody showed up to drive me to their off-site location, although that was not initially disclosed. I called them and they knew I was there waiting but the agent was rude and dismissive. I will NEVER rent a car from Economy again nor use any travel site (like Kayak) that sells any rental services from them. I was left on my own in a rough part of the enormous and busy Orlando airport as the sun was setting and night was coming on, a serious threat to my safety. I wondered if this was a scam to get people to prepay without delivering an actual service. Economy and Kayak both should be ashamed for treating a customer this way. I ended up having to pay for Uber to get me to my ultimate destination and then had to rent a car from there.

The rental we were given was not the same category as reserved. They did not have anything else to give us. The apple car play did not work and no one knew how to fix it. We also kept receiving warnings about tire pressure. Staff were friendly and the pick-up/drop-off process was easy.

The reservation company took my money and made the reservation with NU Car. When I went to pick up the car they refused to give me the car stating that I was a Florida state resident and they did not rent to Fl state residents. Says it is in their contract and it absolutely was not!!!! The reservation company could not find it either. I did get my money back but was without a car again. Will never use NU Car again. Reservation company was awesome, not NU Car.

We originally booked our pick up time for 8:00 pm, but circumstances changed so I phoned to see if the pick up time could be changed to 3:00 pm. The person I spoke to said she would have to see if there would be a mini van available at 3:00 pm and put me on hold for a short time. When she returned to the phone she said, yes , we could change the time as a mini van would be available at 3:00 pm. Nothing in the original booking prepared us for the fact that the rental office was 15 minutes from the airport and when we got there at 3:00 pm, we were informed that there was no change to our rental time and that we would have to wait until 8:00 pm to pick up our minivan. The only option we were given was an upgrade which doubled the rental amount. Since we were sitting in the middle of nowhere and had five hours to wait, we felt we had no choice and paid for the upgrade. This extra charge put the rental amount on par with firms who actually have their pick up stations at the airport. The employees that I spoke to were pleasant, but overall this was not a pleasant experience as we ended up paying double what we had budgeted for. I will not use NU Car again.

They tried to do a hard sell on the insurance. They did a hard sell on the automatic tolls and lied about cash toll booths being open. They said the $15 a day was the only way to use toll roads. They gave me a beat up vehicle with several dents and damages. Despite being 2.5 miles away, I waited 45 minutes for a shuttle for pick up, and there was no shuttle available on my return flight. Also, there was no way to get a hold of anyone on the phone or computer during the weekend when I tried to confirm whether they would have a shuttle when we needed it. A couple of vans were loitering around offering rides to the airport for $25 cash.

It was the worst possible experience! The agent, who had no name tag, was very rude and unprofessional. He told me that since I was renting for just one day, I should have gone to Budget or Enterprise. He charged my account twice. He treated my husband and me as if we were trying to steal something. He said that I needed to show proof of residency, so I did, but it had my husband’s name on it. Therefore, I had to add my husband to the reservation, and then he charged me twice the amount that was agreed upon for adding my husband. The entire time, he kept saying, “it would be easier if I canceled your reservation and let you go.” And I left the store without the car!

2 day rental at a very low rate ($48). Expected to be taxed like crazy and pressured for upcharges, but this was a whole new level. Website not working or helpful in preparing an easy counter experience. App useless. At the counter, was told my NY/NJ EZ Pass I brought is useless unless I want to be double-charged. And, “FL no longer accepts cash at tolls, so renting the plate pass for $11/day, unlimited tolls, is cheaper than the fines if you end up on a toll road.” I could have navigated around all tolls on the trip, and there are clearly cash lanes at each toll booth. Plus, I pre-purchased Allianz rental insurance directly to avoid their overpriced option, but was told I could not rent the car without purchasing (at least) their liability option ($20/day). He said I was lucky b/c that is MUCH less than the $59/day full coverage. All in, my 2 day $48 car rental ended up at $128!! Still much less than the Big 3 but nearly 3x what I reserved. Finally, I don’t fully blame Advantage: CLEARLY the State of FL and the county are in on the visitor fleecing.

The tire was flat before I took it off the lot. But I had no idea how flat until I was out of the lot and driving away, as is proven in the pics I included of the dashboard alerts in my dispute with them. I was late to pick up my wife from the airport. At no time during the exchange- on the two phone calls I had relaying that the tire had been flat, or when I exchanged it, or even when I dropped the second car off- was I ever* told I would be paying for the inconvenience of being given a car with a flat tire. I had to put on a donut and drive the car half an hour back to Ace to get it exchanged, and then I’m surprised to be charged for that as well.

That is an important condition; it would be good to know *earlier* in the rental reservation, not at the last minute. We ended up renting from another company, for twice the price because of the last-minute deadline.

The experience was easy and quick! The car was perfect for my needs. The only thing that was a “surprise “ was the pressure to purchase for $10 a day to use the transponder in the car . They actually added &12.99 a day! Their prices beat any I looked for and the negative reviews I had read were not the case in my experience! I will definitely use them again.

We arrived on a Saturday and waited over 45 minutes to get our car. The lobby was packed. But a sign in sheet kept everything orderly. Once we got to the counter, the customer service agent was upbeat and very friendly. I expected a level of stress and he did not show any of that. We walked out with a smile. We arranged for a Altima or similar, and were provided an Equinox SUV. The car was spotless. Upon return, it was fast and easy. I needed a ride back to the hotel and they called for a ride for me. Lousy experience. No rental agreement sent to email even though they were suppose to. Called the provided number to local branch many times over a few days and no one picked up. Tried to extend the rental by a day and couldnt do so online. Went in person to do so and was rejected cos my return flight was later than my car rental. Asked them how then did they manage to rent to me in the first place and they said not sure but not supposed to. What a waste of time.

NextCar is a huge rip-off: it advertises a cheap rental price, then jacks up the price for add-ons the customer often has no choice but to accept: 1) Florida residents pay MORE, and they don't get "unlimited mileage" (per the advertisement), 2) the rental agency forces the customer to provide ACCESS to their car insurance website (password AND login), or provide the full documents of your auto insurance policy. The auto insurance card won't do: you have to have THE FULL POLICY document with you. 3) If your own insurance has a large deductible, then you HAVE to buy the agency's expensive insurance. The upper limit is $500. Otherwise, they take out $500 from your credit card which they say they'll pay back after 30 days--just long enough to incur a charge of INTEREST on the payment.l 4) If you don't pay the agency in advance for tolls, you can't pay cash at the toll booth. The rental agency toll device will trigger if you drive a toll road, and you'll pay $14 regardless of whether you paid in cash. All of this is "negotiated" when you go pick up your car, and the negotiations can take more than AN HOUR, so wait time and long lines are ridiculously, maddeningly long. It was a horror.

I traveled for business and processed this reservation online through Kayak with a business card. When I landed at the airport to pick up my rental car, the woman at the counter informed me it was not paid for just "reserved" and they couldn't charge the same card. A rental car for an entire week is A LOT of money to pay when you are under the assumption it is already paid for. This was definitely not communicated clearly in the booking process. I have rented cars several other times at a variety of places and this was not the process previously. When I returned the car to the airport, not a single counter was manned. All counters had signs pointing to each other saying "if no one is at this counter please go to the (insert company name here) counter".....but nobody was there. I finally settled on putting the keys for my National rental in the Enterprise dropbox on the counter because it was the only safe way to return it.

Waited over 1 hour to be picked up at the airport after calling about 10 times only to hear the bus would be there in 5 minutes, got to the pick location another 2 hours to before we got car, place was crowded and you had to write your name down and wait to be called [nobody instructed us] of the procedure, thanks to the other guest that was waiting too. Then they asked for not insurance card, they wanted something else from insurance company that i had to call and get (they didnt specify, they asked for proof of insurance when booking). Guy that checked me in was not pleasant, the same person that checked you in was the same one that had to run outside, find you a car, and check and rub back in to check you in. He told me if i go to Hertz its the same wait so oh well because I complained of waiting so long to be seen. I will never use this place again. Another thing I have yet to receive my $500 deposit and I returned the car from March 18, they claim its the bank and its normally 10 business days. Dont waste your time, you get what you pay for. Company is a joke, go elsewhere.

Good people and easy drop off. Hassle with declining CDW because they wanted info on my personal vehicle. My credit card company covered my insurance but car rental said that wasn’t sufficient. Had to contact my insurance company, frustrating.

When unlocking car door horn alarm would trigger each time. No big deal until I tried calling car rental office. Nothing but automated recordings. It has 5 options and each has sub options. I went through each one and was never able to contact anyone. As a result, we had to endure the annoying car honking alarm each time we opened the car.

The car itself was fine. Pick up was complicated and delayed, and after waiting more than 30 minutes, I had to call for pick up to the offsite (kind of creepy/ isolated) site. And then we began the haggling- extra “compulsory “ insurance, extra daily charge for tolls, my car insurance not being sufficient. Essentially attempts to quadruple what I expected to be the “total” rental price. It’s such a racquet.

The pricing was utterly "un-transparent". CarRental8.com charged us $277 for the week. But, in the fine print (though without specifying the amount), it turned out that OC Car Rental had other charges -- to the tune of $222 (a $20/day charge for "mandatory supplementary liability insurance" -- despite the fact that I am covered by my regular auto insurance - and a $35 "car rental center fee" and a $25 "enhanced disinfecting cleaning fee" and a $14 "surcharge"). This is truly despicable behavior by a car rental agency, and I do plan to report it to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

Our flight was delayed by several hours and we were still in the air at the time of our rental. When we finally landed and got in touch with the company, I was told that my reservation that I had already paid for had been canceled since we hadn't picked up the car on time (due to something completely beyond my control.) Now I'm fighting to even get a refund and we didn't have a car to use on vacation. Run the other direction from this company.

I reserved this as a referral from Kayak to Rentalcars.com. Their website, along with the confirmation email stated a "Total Cost" of $111.72. When I picked up the car, the agent presented me with "additional local costs" amounting to an additional $71.18. This included an unheard of "Pickup Fee" for $10.00 and "Dropoff Fee" for $10.00. I have never been charged these from any rental agency, anywhere in the world prior to this. None of these "additional local" charges were listed anywhere before pickup. The contract stated "Total Cost" of $111.72, and that's what I expected. In addition, the $250.00 "security deposit" has not been refunded or credited to my credit card as of yet. I have tried all morning to reach the agency to inquire about this. They answered only after about 30 minutes of putting me on hold. The representative could not give me any reasonable answers about the additional charges, but said the security deposit would take 5-10 business days. I will monitor that. Please remove Global Car Rental from your list of agencies. They have committed what I believe is a classic case of Bait and Switch.

Pickup took tom long.need more shuttles instead of waiting 20 minutes to get a shuttle and then a long drive to the pickup location. Was waiting before the gentleman after cut in and the staff didn’t say anything so I had to wait another 15minutes. Then it was my turn and they said I could leave without full coverage which i had to purchase extra. I knew i could use my personal wasn’t asked if i wanted to use that. They said yes you can and they need my ID card with my full declaration page.Couldn’t find my declaration page so they stole $200 dollar for the insurance from me. Never every again

My $77 weekend car rental turned into $212 because they claimed that I picked the car up later than I said I would and then dropped it off later than I said I would, neither of which were true. They also would not let me leave with the car unless I agreed to pay $15 per day for liability insurance even though I had proof of full coverage from my AMEX. DO NOT RENT YOUR CAR FROM THESE PEOPLE. Rented the car online using KAYAK. The total cost for the vehicle was 55 dollars. When I pick up the car, I always decline the insurance and gas option. When I did, they required me to show proof of insurance. I did not have any proof of insurance from my company and I do not care my personal insurance card with me. So I could not get the car unless I purchased their insurance. The car was horrible. It had a bad vibration, it made a horrible noise, the air did not work one time until I figured out the key had to be in the exact right spot for the blower/air to work. It had a hose hanging down below the vehicle. At the end of the week, my 55 dollar rental ended up costing 180 dollars. I always use KAYAK for my rentals....I wish they would pull Priceless Car Rentals off of their site. I will never use Priceless again.

Took about 30 min to check in at the counter. It was only one person in front of me. Both the customer and the clerk in the front counter were very slow at rent a car processing. The other clerk got on the phone pretending not seeing other standing clients. Office environment very boring and basic not even a tiny green plant or poster hanging. Waited an hour to get the car plus the shuttle to the building. There is lots of fine print. So fees, fees, fees. The $15 car turned out to be about $30. I would have just gone to the big name brand to be in and out for a little more. $500 hold on credit card. $10 a day over 75 fee. $20 mandatory collision if you don't have it from your insurance. $6 a gallon for fuel fill up surcharge. $15 a day for toll plate activation. There's more but I can't remember. I think they also said they can't use debit cards only credit cards? They don't accept American Express. That's what I can remember. Beware!!

The good: they had a car as promised. The not good: they lured me in with a “too good to be true” price a week prior to arrival; then informed me I needed to carry an absurd amount of insurance on my policy, otherwise I need to purchase their insurance at $35 per day. No effort was made to make me aware of this policy prior to arriving. By then you’ve taken the shuttle way outside the airport; and your basically stuck with a huge bill you weren’t planning on. Better to be upfront with customers re: the real cost of the rental before committing to it. But again, they did have a car available.

I booked the car for 7 days starting at 12pm but our flight did not get in until 6pm. My phone was on airplane mode. and was not able to get their texts. They cancelled the car. We had to scramble to get another rental.

Staff was very friendly !! Car was clean and very reliable. Although I was not expecting an extra $230 in fees that I had to pay when I got there. I paid $52 for the 3 days I was going to be there when I made the reservation, but when I got there I had to pay an extra $230. They advertised it to be $7/day + tax which was a great deal so I jumped on it. Because of that I won’t rent from them again. I’ll stick with the rentals at the airport.

Disappointed enough to not request more of your services because I closed the business and when I arrived at the agency they demanded a new insurance and asked me for an extra $650. Everything must be dealt with before, both the price, requirements and documentation and when the client pays, the business is closed, and it is criminal that we cleinyes are surprised when we arrive for what we buy or lease. President Baiden said that these bad practices must end so that there is confidence and business is generated in the country. You are ruining the system. Now I want my money back in full since I had to rent a car elsewhere.

We waited for an hour for pick up at the airport and never did see a van. We had to get a taxi to the site to get the car. We were shocked to have to provide our car insurance from home and had to get someone to our house to take pictures of our insurance and still had to pay a daily rate. This was the worst rental experience I have had in 40 years of renting cars. I will never do business with this company again and will tell all my traveling friends to avoid you.

The primary spot to rent a car is at the Orlando International Airport where you’ll find numerous rental companies, like Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, and Budget, in the Ground Transportation area. This is a convenient option if you’re flying into the city. Alternatively, major car rental agencies have locations throughout the city in popular tourist areas, like Downtown Orlando, International Dive, Kissimmee, and near Walt Disney World. Certain area hotels even offer car rental services on-site for guests.

What to know about toll roads in Orlando

Orlando has an extensive network of ten toll roads that connect various destinations throughout the city and beyond. Unless you want to add significant time to your travels, you will likely use at least one of the toll roads during your trip. For example, the typical drive from the airport to Disney World’s Epcot is 25 minutes using tolls and 50 minutes without using them, while the typical drive from Disney Springs to Cocoa Beach is 70 minutes using toll roads and 110 minutes without them.
